Synopsis

Nothing good comes after the third date.

See, date three is the crucial point when things get real, which is exactly why I bounce out the door, twiddling my fingers at whatever poor boy I’ve left behind. Because if I stick around, one of three things will happen: he’ll profess his undying love, he gets weird and stalky, or I’ll go crazy. Like, Sid and Nancy crazy. Like, chase-him-through-the-streets-begging-him-to-love-me crazy.

Seriously, it’s better for everyone this way.

So when I meet Bodie, I figure it’ll be the same as it ever was. It doesn’t matter that he doesn’t put a single string on me. Doesn’t matter that he’s funny and smart and jacked and can play my body like a grand piano. Because even though I’m built for love, love has only carved me up like a Christmas ham.

Resistance is something I can only hang on to for so long, and he has persistence in spades. But my heart isn’t as safe as I want to believe, and neither is his. And the second I ignore my cardinal rule is the second I stand to lose him forever.

*****5 Penny and Bodie are AMAZING Stars*****

From the very first page of Bad Penny, I found myself laughing my ass off to the point of tears, loving these characters and the life and vibrancy that burst out of them, and enjoying what this story was so authentically giving me. Those feelings continued through every part of this book as Staci Hart wove together a consuming story of what happens when you meet that one person who starts to change everything you thought you knew. This book gave me Penny and Bodie in all their glory, and as I sit here writing this review, I am still flooded with how much I love those two and how incredible their characters are.

Bad Penny is a book that makes you laugh. So. Damn. Hard. It is a book bursting with vibrant personality, more personality, and then some more unforgettable personality. This story is one that will wow you with the life and color of its characters, and the fiery and intense connection they share. Bad Penny will equally make you laugh, make you feel, and give you two characters you can’t help but love and root for.

This book is the definition of a good book. It was enjoyable in the most phenomenal way to read, and I found myself smiling and feeling and just loving every fantastic word as I experienced what this story had to give me. It let me meet and fall in love with two dynamic characters who were real, shared something very real, and who owned who they were through every page. Bad Penny was a phenomenally written story that meshed together comedy, romance, and authenticity in such a way that made for one helluva read.

Bottom line, if you are looking for a story that will make you laugh until you cry, feel with all you have, and that will have you shouting your love for the characters it so authentically gives you, then run yourself to this book this second.

What I loved about Bad Penny:

  • Find a Penny, pick it up. All day long, you’ll have good luck. Penny, Penny, Penny…. What do I even say about the exceptional Penny? I guess I could start with how I love that girl with my entire heart. She is real, she is funny as hell, she is vibrant and fun and lively, and she knows exactly the kind of girl she is, and she doesn’t apologize for it. Penny is a gem of a character, and is one of the most unique, lovable, and unforgettable characters I have ever read. She is a girl who’s life and love is bursting with authenticity, a bit of chaos and messiness, and so much fire that just makes her her. I loved her character with all I had, and I loved being with her as she stayed true to herself through it all even as she started to evolve and change. Penny is a character I promise you won’t soon forget, and when she isn’t making you laugh like crazy, you will be loving and respecting the hell out of her because she is everything. And then some.
  • Well hello there Bodie. Now let me tell you about Bodie. That man is good. Inherently good. He is a man with a heart of gold, a little bit of a nerdy side, and he is a man that wants Penny with all he has. What I loved about Bodie was that he knew right from the start that Penny wasn’t after anything serious, yet he set out to prove her wrong and show her that he could be the guy that changed her mind. I LOVED his determination and tenacity, and at the same time I loved how with that strength we also got to see a more vulnerable side to his character as his feelings for Penny deepened. Bodie is character that will make you blush, that will send your heart right to his and all that he feels in this story, and he’s a character that you will root for from start to finish. I loved Bodie, I understood Bodie, and I got why things went the way they did on his fight to be with Penny, and I loved how Staci Hart connected me to him every step of the way. All of that combined with his personality and charm had me beyond smitten with that man.
  • The most intense connection. When I tell you that Penny and Bodie have some serious fire going on between them, I mean that with every bone in my body. Their connection is intense, full of passion and their unique vibrancy, and it lights every ounce of what those two share on fire in a way that will make you blush, have you looking for a fan, and needing more of it all. Bodie and Penny share a pull towards one another that they can’t fight, no matter how hard Penny might try to put the kibosh on it when things start to get a bit too real. The intense connection these two share heightens everything you’re reading in this book, and will have you feeling it all with them as it unfolds. That connection and vibrant, visceral, and heat filled fire will pull you through it all with them, and you will love it. (You will also never look at ice cream and peanut butter and jelly the same way again. Trust me on that one.) Getting what I did with them in this book made me love them more, showed me more of what could be between them, and showed me exactly why these two had to figure out a way to make it all work.
  • We’re owning it. One of the absolute best things about Bodie and Penny, and many of the supporting characters of this book was how much they owned who they were. They owned their choices, they owned their words, and they owned their feelings, even if it was only to themselves, and even if they tried to deny it at first, they owned it. It was how these two owned it, how they brought that fire and strength into every moment in some way, and how they used that to carry them through this book and what it threw their way that had me loving the two of them even more. I LOVED how Penny and Bodie weren’t afraid to own who they were, what they wanted, and what they were going to fight for. And even though what they might’ve originally wanted evolved and changed over the course of the book, those two never stopped owning it and giving it all they had, and that was everything to get in this book.
  • Pushing onto something new. Over the course of this book, Bodie and Penny soon start to realize that what they share might be more than they bargained for. Through the events and story of Bad Penny you get to be with them as they start to feel more, as they start to realize they might be in a bit over their heads, and as they try to figure out where to go from there. I loved how this book pushed both Bodie and Penny to realize what they wanted, what they were willing to fight for, and just how hard they were willing to push to end up where they wanted to be. It wasn’t always easy for them, and it pushed them both, especially Penny, outside their comfort zones, but it made them both real, and easy to understand and empathize with with what they were going through and feeling. Getting to be with them as they faced some hard truths, and started to pick themselves and their hearts back up again was amazing in every way, and had me rooting even more for the two of them that it would all work out.
  • The best world of characters. One of the absolute best parts of Bad Penny was getting to be with these characters that I fell so totally in love with. They all had unique personalities, their own vibrancy that I loved, and they each added a piece to the amazing and unforgettable puzzle that was Bad Penny. Now as I sit here all I want to do is read more of them, and you can bet for damn sure I plan on doing just that since some of them have their own books. What I loved about these characters was that they added so much to this story, and they all pushed Bodie and Penny in the ways that they both needed to be pushed. They were are real, easy to love, and had me laughing and loving what I got with them in this story, and that just made reading this book even more enjoyable.

Bad Penny is a book that made me laugh, made me feel, and made me believe in the connection and feeling that Bodie and Penny shared. Their story in this book gave me life, made me think, and had me rooting like crazy for those two that they would figure it all out. While it had so many moments that were bursting with humor and heat, it also had so many moments that were very real and that gave me so much with these characters, and this is something I will not soon forget.

If you are looking for a story with dynamic characters that share a connection that is so intense and fiery and passionate that you won’t know which way is up because you’re so consumed in it, then run yourself to this book. Don’t walk. Do not pass go. Do not collect your 200 dollars. Just read this book. It was so good. So. Damn. Good. I can’t say it enough.

Staci Hart and her exceptional writing once again blew me away with what she wove together so fantastically in this story, and I can’t say enough how much you NEED this book in your life! Trust me. This book will consume you, and its characters and their vibrancy will have you loving and feeling it all in a way that you will love.

When I finished this book my cheeks were hurting from laughing and smiling so much, my heart was so full with what I got with these characters, and I was just in love with the love and feelings and vibrancy that this story gave me. It was real, it was honest, it was bursting with personality, and it was Bodie and Penny…and it truly doesn’t get better than that.

About the Author

Staci has been a lot of things up to this point in her life — a graphic designer, an entrepreneur, a seamstress, a clothing and handbag designer, a waitress. Can’t forget that. She’s also been a mom, with three little girls who are sure to grow up to break a number of hearts. She’s been a wife, though she’s certainly not the cleanest, or the best cook. She’s also super, duper fun at a party, especially if she’s been drinking whiskey.

From roots in Houston to a seven year stint in Southern California, Staci and her family ended up settling somewhere in between and equally north, in Denver. They are new enough that snow is still magical. When she’s not writing, she’s reading, sleeping, gaming, or designing graphics.

READ MY REVIEW OF THE LINE

EXCERPT:

How could it be so damn hot at seven in the morning? I wasn’t sure, but it was. Even in a thin tank, cut-off shorts, and my boots, I was melting. I stood at the top of a ladder Cole had placed against a tree so that we could reach the peaches up top. I used the rubber band on my wrist and tied my hair into a knot at the top of my head, hoping that it helped.

Cole climbed up behind me on the ladder and stood a couple of rungs below, but still, he towered over my small frame.

“Okay?” he asked.

“Yep,” I answered, even though I wasn’t okay. He was so close, and that familiar earthy, smoke smell I loved almost as much as rocky road invaded my senses.

“Good.” He looked at the peaches. “Alrighty. You see the ones that have that pink color?” He motioned to a cluster of fruit in front of us.

I nodded, trying not to breathe in too much. Because Jesus, he smelled delicious.

“Those look ripe and done. The paler ones behind them don’t look ready yet.”

I nodded again, and Cole grabbed my hand. He pressed his fingers in, wrapping both of our hands around a peach. He pushed the tips of his fingers into mine at the top of the fruit, near the stem.

“Feel the give, how it feels soft there?”

I squeezed my fingers around the stem again without his help and said, “Yep. Feels softer there.”

He smiled down at me. “Good. That’s also a sign it’s ripe for picking. But be gentle. They bruise easily.”

Cole’s front pressed closer to my back, and I shivered. The way Cole taught me to do things here was pure torture. It was also outright ecstasy. I lived for these moments as much as I loathed them. Because the man was a damn tease. He’d sent me back to the big house a sweaty, panting mess more times than I could count, my panties drenched.

He gently squeezed our hands around the peach and twisted and pulled. The peach came free, my tiny hand gripped it and his big, rough hand wrapped around mine. He brought our hands to my face and pressed the peach closer to my nose.

“How does it smell?” he asked in my ear.

I wanted to say, “I don’t know. I can’t smell a damn thing but your smoke and leather, and I don’t want to.”

Instead, I closed my eyes. I pressed my nose right up against the peach and concentrated on the smell.

“Sweet,” I said, my eyes still closed.

Our hands moved, and I felt the peach at my lips. My heart hammered and fire raced across my skin, and it had absolutely nothing to do with the weather.

Cole positioned himself even closer, and it seemed, in that moment, that every breath he took sucked up every bit of air in the atmosphere.

My own breath quickened, and a growl rumbled low in Cole’s chest.

“Taste it,” he whispered in my ear, his lips so close that I was sure he could taste me on them.

I opened my mouth and wrapped my lips around the fruit, the fuzzy skin tickling my lips. I bit down, and that rumble I heard from Cole made an appearance again. I moaned as I pressed my teeth to the fruit, the juicy sweetness of the peach sliding over my tongue.

“So good,” I groaned as Cole pulled our hands and the peach back. A little juice rolled down my chin and I attempted to lift my free hand to wipe it.

“I got it,” Cole said, brushing his hand over my chin, slowly picking the juice up with his finger, and ever-so-Goddamn-enticingly placing his finger in his mouth before sucking it clean like it was the best thing he’d ever put in his mouth.

“Delicious,” he said, his hooded eyes on mine as he popped his finger out of his mouth.

And fuck me. I swayed on that ladder, my own eyes closing as I willed my cowboy to kiss me with every breath I took. I made myself only will this about once a day, so I thought I was doing pretty good.

He brought our hands holding the peach to his mouth. He wrapped his mouth around it, his lips brushing my fingers, and I felt it deep in my core. I pressed my thighs together and swallowed a moan.

“Perfect,” he said, staring into my eyes. He held my gaze for a moment more before shaking his head and letting my hand, which was still clasped around the peach, go. Then he stepped off the ladder like he hadn’t just made sweet, sweet love to that peach with his mouth right here in front of me.

I watched him walk off to another tree, place a ladder against it, and climb up like nothing in the world had happened. I kicked the rung of the ladder and turned back to the tree. Damn peach molester.

*****5 Unforgettably Emotional Stars*****

I’m sitting here staring at my computer screen, trying for the life of me to come up with the right amount of words to even scratch the surface of the literal amazingness that is this book….and you know what?! I’ve already decided that no words I can tell you could even come close to capturing what it was like to read and experience and feel every breathtaking word this book. My words just aren’t good enough to show you what this book is like, or to capture how truly unforgettable it is.

My words just won’t be able to do it….but even still, I’m going to try with all I have to show you how much you NEED this book in your life because this book, this story, and Elle Brook’s exceptional writing deserve it.

A Life Less Beautiful is one of the most unforgettable, all-feeling, and soul touching books I have EVER read.

This book is the definition of what it means to be a damn good book. It has a story that is thoughtfully crafted, emotions that are visceral and beyond authentic, characters that are easy to love and root for, and it packs a literal power and meaning to it that you will NEVER forget. Honestly, when I think about this book, I think about what it made me feel, what it allowed me to believe in, and what it gave me with these characters along the way…and really I just think about how I know I will never forget one piece of this story.

A Life Less Beautiful is a story that sticks with you. Forever. It’s a book that takes ahold of your heart, your very soul really. It’s a book that makes you, and breaks you, and gives you every emotion under the sun. This story is one that pushes you to your very emotional limit and threatens to shatter you on every page, yet in the same breath and on those same pages, allows you to feel the most meaningful and genuinely breathtaking love you will ever experience.

This book is real. This book is the definition of an honest to goodness love story. This book is meaningful in every possible way. This book is mesmerizing and consuming through every page. This book is life. This book is love. This book is Harlow and Ellis.

What Elle Brooks so extraordinarily created in this book is something that left me breathless, made me cry my eyes out on more than one occasion, and left me in awe of what she created between these two dynamic characters.

As I sit here writing this review I am truly struggling with what to tell you about this book because I want to tell you it all. And I truly mean, I want to tell you EVERYTHING because this book and its magnificence deserves to be shouted from every rooftop in the world. And that is not an exaggeration on my part. Trust me, this book deserves that kind of sentiment. I want to tell you all about these characters, and this story, and what they’ll give you as you feel and live and breathe every word of it with them….but I also don’t want to tell you anything about this book because I don’t want to take away anything of what it will be like for you to read this book.

If there is one thing I could tell you about this book, besides the fact that it is utterly amazing, it would be to go in blind. Just jump in heart first and be prepared to feel it all with Harlow and Ellis. Jump right into this book and thick of it all and live it. Live it. Breathe it. Feel it. And embrace it all as it comes because that will literally give you it all as you read and experience this story. Trust. Me.

A Life Less Beautiful is a second chance love story that weaves together an emotional and beyond meaningful past and present of Ellis and Harlow. Told with the perfect combination of both, this story allows you to be with them every step of the way as they fall, as they break, as they try to pick themselves back up, just to willingly fall all over again. Their story in this book is one of raw emotion, true connection, and a love that you will feel in the deepest parts of your heart and soul.

Every turn of the page dives you deeper into how things came to be with them, and pushes you along with them, closer to a future that they equally crave and fear.

What I loved about the way this story was told was that the seamless interweaving of the past and present allowed me to get so much with both of these characters. It allowed me to see it all with them. I got to experience where it all started, from that first meeting to that first kiss to every first in between. I got to be there as their young love blossomed into more than they ever could have imagined, and I got to be there with them as it was all torn apart. And boy did those pieces hurt like a mother. Then I got to be there as they tried to put it all back together again, as they tried to overcome the mountains of hurt and pain between them, and as they tried to see what could be if they gave their love and their hearts one more chance.

That second chance at it all is the life and breath of this story. It is what makes this book the exceptional thing that it is, and it is that blend of past and present, joy and hurt, hate and love, and hope and fear that makes this story the best amount of everything. This book is one that will make you feel it all. To the point that sometimes that emotion will overwhelm you and consume you and own you, but only in the absolute best way because it will give you Harlow, Ellis, and everything those two share together.

It is that emotion and those extraordinary characters that make this book one of the best I have ever read.

What I loved about Harlow and Ellis was the evolution I saw and experience with them both. I got to be with them at so many stages of their lives and their relationship, and got to see how they grew and changed yet still stayed true to their endearing selves, which invested me so wholly and truly in every part of them and in every piece of what they shared together. Elle Brooks does the most phenomenal job of keeping you with those two, in heart and head, in such an authentic way that sears you to them. Those two still own my heart, and I officially do not want it back from them because I never want to forget what I got with them, and what they allowed me to feel and think along the way.

I am 100% positive that these characters will stay with me for the rest of time, and that is a true testament to what she so brilliantly created with them in this story.

Harlow was a fierce, fiery, and vibrant girl with some serious personality who owns herself and her choices. She is a fighter that girl, and she will awe you with her strength and tenacity through it all. When the punches keep coming, she keeps fighting, yet through this book you also get to see a softer side to her where her true vulnerability and heart lies…and that, well that is everything. Ellis Hughes now, well that is a man guaranteed to steal your heart with all he has. He is a man who is inherently good, endearing in every possible way, and thoughtful. So damn thoughtful. Ellis is a man who will melt your heart, while simultaneously making it beat a bit faster with all that he gives you. That combined with his honesty and protectiveness for those he loves will have you giving your heart over to him in no time flat.

Both of these characters are real, so beautifully genuine, and they have real connection that fires and builds and grows through every single page of this story.

And let me tell you now, what you get between these two will make you blush, will make you feel it all, and will show you even more of why those two need to be together. What Harlow and Ellis share is deep. It’s real. It’s practically tangible through every page of this story with what you get with them, and it is given life by Elle Brooks’ extraordinary writing. What you feel between them, how it brings your heart and your very soul to the edge of it all, and the breathtaking, heated, emotionally passionate, and love and anguish filled moments it gives you with them will pull you to them in every way possible…and I am telling you, you will never want to let them go.

So buckle up, strap in, and prepare yourself and your heart for the ride and story of a lifetime.

As I said in the beginning of this review, there is no way that my words will do the right amount of justice for this story, these characters, or what this book is and what it gives you. My words just aren’t good enough to capture even a part of this amazing story, but trust me when I say that you NEED this book in your life this very second.

You need to feel it. You need to embrace it. You need to be open to it. You need to take it in and let it awe you, because I promise you if you open yourself up to this story and these characters it will do just that.

A Life Less Beautiful is a story of what could be, what should be, what will be, and everything in between. This book is one of love and anguish, first, second, and many more chances, and two characters who seem to have it all stacked against them, yet still find themselves being pulled so fiercely back together again. This is a story of love and heartbreak, friendship and family, hope and fear, and the power of choice and fate and life.

This book is one of the most powerful, meaningful, and emotional stories I have ever read, and I truly can’t say that enough.

I am telling you that no matter what you think or believe or feel while reading this book, you will NEVER forget it, or what this story and its characters give you. I think it is quite literally impossible to forget any part of this story, or what Harlow and Ellis so authentically and emotionally give you because it is that damn good, that damn real, and that damn perfect. Don’t get me wrong, this book is an emotional roller coaster that will have you feeling a gamut of different emotions, but that is what makes it the extraordinary thing that it is, and that is what sets it apart.

And when you reach that last page, and experience those last lines of what this story so breathtakingly gives you, you will do so feeling the meaning, the impact, the power, and the true love they hold.

And that my friends is just part of what makes A Life Less Beautiful one of the most beautiful, all-feeling, and unforgettable books I have ever had the pleasure of reading.

So please, I beg of you, read this book. Read it. Feel it. Embrace it. Live it.

It would be wrong not to, trust me.

He was the mark.

The damaged man who still owned it, even four years later.

The Line was where we began.

*****5 Unforgettable Cowboy Stars*****

Let me start this review off by saying that if I could give it all the stars in the world, I would. It is that good. It is that exceptionally written. And it is that damn unforgettable. This book, this world, these characters, and what I got within the pages of this utterly consuming book was everything, and I truly can’t say that enough.

This book took me in its grasp, and didn’t let me go all the way through. It made me fall. It made me swoon something fierce. It had me beyond smitten with these characters, their wonderful and crazy and memorable antics, and all that they shared. It was bursting with feels, the best amount of mystery to keep you hooked into every word and page, some serious romance, and a fire and connection that wouldn’t quit for nothing.

The Line by Amie Knight is a second chance romance that seamlessly weaves together a story of what happens when your past and present collide in a way you never saw coming, causing the most mesmerizing, alluring, vibrant, and breathtaking fireworks of your life. Experiencing those fireworks is equally scary and wonderful and something you’ve never quite experienced before. Getting to experience what those fireworks bring to your life will take these characters to places they never thought they’d be, but can’t help but desperately want to be with all that they have.

This book follows their journey with those fireworks, with the best dose of southern charm and sass thrown in that will have you wanting to run yourself to the peach farm these unforgettable characters call home. Trust me on that. There is no way you can read this book, and not fall in love with everything these characters share, or the magical place they call home.

This book was good. Damn good. It was so easy to fall right into from that very first page, and it kept me beyond hooked into it all with Cole and Everly as they tried to see what might happen if they gave it all a go. It was exceptionally written, thoughtfully crafted, and one helluva story that I know I won’t soon forget, and that is truly just part of what makes The Line by Amie Knight such an extraordinary read.

What I LOVED about The Line:

  • The one and only Everly Woods. Everly Woods is a girl who stole my heart from the very first moment I met her in this book. That girl has been through so much, and over the course of this book you learn about her struggle, her attempt to heal from the abandon and hurt that clouds her past, and how’s she’s done her darn best to come out the other side of it all. Everly is easy to love, easy to connect to, and so beyond easy to root for. That girl will show you the definition of tenacity, what it means to truly give it your all, and what it means to risk your heart and your very soul for the chance at something more. Everly’s journey in this book will pull at all of your emotions, and then some. In the end you will love the authentic, all-feeling, and truly unforgettable story you get with her as she discovers herself, what she truly wants and needs, and how hard she’s willing to fight to get it.
  • Save a horse and ride a Cole. Now let me tell you right now that there is no resisting the one and only Cole Briggs. That man is a bit broody, he’s got a past of his own that pulls at him every day, and at the heart of it all, he is a genuinely good guy just trying to make it through. Did I also mention the fact that he is a hot as sin cowboy that will melt your heart….and other parts of you something fierce?! Because that man is guaranteed to steal your heart, set it on fire, and have it falling so hard for him and all that he is in no time flat. Trust me. There is no resisting that man. I loved Cole’s character because he was real, he was genuine through and through, and he was honest about his struggle and what he was trying to do. That man has been through his own world of hurt and struggle, and this book explores what happens when the one person who can truly make it better, comes flashing unexpectedly back into his life. His story in this book will have you feeling it all with him as he tries to put his own pieces back together, all while you swoon something fierce with what he brings to this book.
  • Past, present, and everything in between. One of the most exceptional aspects of this book was the seamless weaving of the past and present. This book opens in the past with Everly and Cole and their unforgettable first meeting, and over the course of the book you get to see firsthand what happened after that meeting, how these two have come to end up in the same place, and how that connection and spark is still there as strong as ever. Amie Knight does an incredible job of letting you understand how these characters came to be where they are, she allows you to understand their fears and doubts, and she allows you to be with them every step of the way in the present as they both give it all they’ve got when they’re presented a second chance. Every moment of that second chance with Everly and Cole is packed with feeling, some serious swoon and connection, and the unforgettable dynamic that is created when past and present collide. The collision of that past and present in The Line pushes both Cole and Everly in ways they didn’t know possible, and you will be enamored by every ounce of what that brings up with these two.
  • A connection worth it all. To say that Everly and Cole’s connection was full of fire, the most authentic feeling, and some serious passion is really not capturing all that those two share. That fire and connection ignites between them through every page of this book, and just grows and grows and grows as their story continues. That connection is so deeply rooted between those two, and the way it all unfolds as they reconnect and see what might be will leave you breathless more times than you can count. And that is not an exaggeration. There is so much heartfelt emotion behind what those two share, so much authentic feeling, and so much heat and fire that all combines in the most exceptional way to show you exactly what these two share. It’s that connection that pulls you through every lick of their story, and it’s Amie Knights incredible writing that allows you to experience every breath of that. The more you feel that connection and what these two share, the more you will be rooting for them with all you have, and that will have you NEEDING to know what happens next and to see where that connection takes them.
  • A place and people so magical and wonderful. So let me tell you that all while reading this book I just wanted to jump right into where these characters were and spend time with them all. Whether it was Cole and Everly, Joe, Cody, Momma Lou, or any of the other amazing, wonderful, and distinctive characters that make up this book, I loved what I got with them all while reading this book. They made this book feel like home. They made me feel as if I was one of the gang on that Georgia peach farm. They made me feel like I belonged right with the rest of them. The way Amie Knight so authentically creates that world and the characters that make it so special sets this book apart. That thrown in with the good old southern charm and fire they all have, makes reading The Line an experience that is equal parts enjoyable, fun, meaningful, and downright unforgettable.
  • The perfect blend of everything. Amie Knight wove together a story in The Line that was the perfect blend of everything. She created a world and characters that felt so authentic, so beyond real, and that were so easy to love with all that I had. She gave me the connection and fire that had me hooked and blushing all the way through. She had the feels and the emotions that had me tearing up and feeling everything these characters shared so deep in my heart. She created the perfect level of mystery that had me needing to know how it would all unfold. All of that and every other incredible aspect of this book was brought to life through her extraordinary writing to create a book that was the full package. There was romance, laughs, feels, moments that made me cry and moments that had me laughing my butt off. There was family, friendships, first loves, past loves, and everything in between, and that is just part of what made this book so unforgettably amazing to experience.

The Line was a book that let me feel it all, experience it all, and just love it all with these two unforgettable characters as they gave it all second chance. The feelings between them, their fire, and the goodness that emanated from the pages of their story took ahold of my heart and soul while reading this book, and I can’t say enough how much I loved what I got with them. It was real, it was sweet, it was romantic and heated and downright good, and that is just a part of what made Everly and Cole’s love story so special.

This book wove together a story that was packed full of meaning, healing, and an emotional journey of two souls who were waiting for the right time to come back together to put the missing pieces of themselves back together again. The events of The Line explore that right time, and you will bask in every ounce of what you get with these characters as they see what could be.

Everly and Cole will steal your heart, and then some, and through it all you will love them, root for them, and just fall so damn hard for everything they share together. Amie Knight blew me away once again with every consuming word of this book. This thoughtfully crafted and all-feeling story proved over and over again how talented she is, and has me beyond excited for more of her mesmerizing words.

If you are looking for a story that will literally give you it all, and have you loving every word you are reading, then run yourself, don’t walk yourself, to this book this very second. It is so good, so well written, and so enjoyable on every level possible.

Shakespeare believed there was always humor in tragedy and
tragedy in humor.
My life proved his theory as fact.
At eighteen I was a single parent moving to this small town
to be with the man I loved. The one who was supposed to love and cherish me in
return.
Finding out he had a wife was tragic.
Remaining in love with him in spite of her was more tragic.
My mom and best friend setting me up on a long string of
blind dates was an ongoing tragedy.
Nine years later, I’ve learned to see the humor in most
situations.
My mom and best friend setting me up on disastrous blind
dates.
My son’s jokes.
The fire alarm going off each time I cook.
My constant bright spot always adding to the humor was my
son, Hayden. But when Hayden had a life-threatening allergic reaction, the man
who came to help my little boy became my own savior. His laugh, his smile, and
the way his eyes lit up when he spoke to my son made him a beacon of light in
both our lives.
But I wasn’t the only one who noticed him.
When I began having feelings for the man my best and only
friend had fallen for, I knew following my heart would once again lead to a fresh
round of heartbreak.
Love led me to this town.
Lies kept me there.
Would history repeat itself?

Or had life just thrown me another Curveball?

Excerpt

“I don’t watch TV at night…” Her voice drifts off, and I know it’s because she realizes I’m going to ask why.And I do.

“You’re going to laugh.”

“Probably.”

“It’s because I can’t hear things.”

“What kinds of things are you trying to hear?”

“I don’t know. Strange noises and things…”

“Strange noises?”

“Do I need to spell it out for you?” She’s trying to sound annoyed, but I can hear the smile in her voice.

“Apparently, because I have no idea what you’re talking about. What kinds of strange noises are you going to hear? I usually turn my TV up to block out all the strange sounds like the neighbor’s kids and the lady behind me that sounds like Fran fucking Drescher.”

“You know who Fran Drescher is?”

“My mother was a big fan of that stupid show she was in. Stop changing the subject. What are you listening for? Hayden won’t sneak out.”

“What if someone breaks in?”

“You’re not serious.”

“Of course I’m serious!”

“What do you do all night?” I ask.

“Work,” she admits. “Well, usually I clean, and then I work.”

“I’m coming over.”

“You can’t.”

The panic in her voice doesn’t make her sound upset about the idea, but afraid.

Is it because she likes me?

“Why not?” I ask.

“It’s like nine o’clock.”

“Are you about to turn orange and sprout a stem?”

“That and I’m not wearing a bra, if you must know.”

“So put it back on.”

“You don’t understand. That’s like saying put your jeans back on.”

“I am in jeans,” I lie just to get a reaction out of her.

“What is wrong with you?” she cries.

“What’s wrong with jeans?”

“They’re stiff and uncomfortable. Wearing jeans all day is basically equivalent to walking on sandpaper. But at least you guys have pockets that will actually hold something larger than a thimble and don’t ride up your ass.”

“If your bra is riding up your ass, we have bigger fish to fry than being afraid of the boogey man.”

Dropout by Jamie Schlosser

Releasing April 27th

JIMMY
Over the past year, I’ve been called a lot of things. Slacker. Troublemaker. Party animal.
I thought I was on top of the world. Turns out, I was pretty close to rock bottom.
Now I have a new title: college dropout.
Talk about a reality check.
But I’ve got a chance to redeem myself. One summer to turn things around. Two months to prove I’m not a complete f*ck-up.
It’s time to change.
I want to get back to being one of the good guys.

MACKENNA
I have everything I need to live out my dream of being a reclusive songwriter—my guitar, my notebook, and blissful silence.
At least, I did until Jimmy moved in next door.
With tattoos, piercings, and mischievous green eyes, he’s got bad news written all over him. And last time I got with a bad boy, it ended horribly.
Jimmy makes me feel things I shouldn’t feel. Want things I shouldn’t want. He’s a hazard to my carefully laid plans.
But he’s only here for two months.
I can resist him…right?

****4.5 Phenomenal Stars****

There is nothing I love more than finding a new to me author’s books to love, and let me tell y’all, I loved every unputdownable bit of Dropout by Jamie Schlosser. This book was fantastic. Fan-freaking-tastic. I could not put it down, I did not want to put it down one bit, and I just loved every single moment I got with these characters as they shared what they did. Jamie Schlosser hooked me into this story from the very first page of that unforgettable and heart racing prologue, and every page that followed pulled me in more to this sweet, heart touching, and deliciously heated love story.

Dropout was a book that had it all. Two lead characters I felt so much for. The perfect blend of banter, heat, and feels. A town and world of supporting characters that were lively and so enjoyable. A story that had the right amount of twists and turns, with just enough of everything woven into a love story I could not get enough of.

Dropout is a satisfying, well written, and downright good read that will have you loving every wonderful bit you get with Mackenna and Jimmy as they see what could be between them. You won’t want to leave those two. Trust me. I finished this book with the biggest smile on my face, and I still wanted more time with those two because I loved their characters so much.

This book made me smile. It made me laugh out loud more times than I could count. It made me swoon and melt and just love what these two were sharing. It kept me so encapsulated in what this author created through every turn of the page, and that was exactly what I needed.

What I Loved About This Book:

  • Jimmy Stole My Heart. Let me tell y’all, Jimmy stole my heart from the very first pages of this book. I loved that man. I loved that he was trying to prove himself and turn his life back to where he wanted it to be. I loved that he was a guy with so much tenacity and determination to get what he wanted, to show Mackenna what could be, yet at the same time he had such a thoughtfulness and protective nature to him that just melted my heart. I loved that he wasn’t afraid to fight for what he knew was possible, and I loved that he did it all with a heart of gold that was good all the way through. I think the goodness of that guy shined through every page of this book, and I can’t say enough how much I loved it. I might’ve also loved the fact that he was covered in tattoos and had piercings to boot. Just saying. I am telling you, once you meet this man, you’ll love him. You’ll love his heart, his humor, and you’ll just love every single incredible bit of him.
  • Mackenna’s Fight to Heal. Mackenna is one strong female character. That girl has been through so much, more than any person should, and years later she is still trying to put all the pieces back together. Since everything that’s happened she’s kept to herself, but one unforgettable encounter with her new next door neighbor Jimmy leads to things she never could’ve expected. My heart went to Mackenna through every page of this book. That girl is on a path to healing, and slowly but surely, she along with the help and thoughtful push of Jimmy, starts to heal from her past in order to fight for the future she so starts to want. I loved Mackenna’s strength, I loved her fire and that she wasn’t afraid to be honest, and I loved how she just felt. I felt it all with that girl while reading this book, and getting to be with her as she healed, as she fell, and as she fought to be where she so deserved to be was amazing.
  • There’s something about those two. From the moment Jimmy and Mackenna meet, there is a literal spark that fires between those two that keeps pulling them closer and closer together. What the two of them share is so real, so full of feels, and I guarantee it’ll make you blush, but more than that it’ll have you knowing and believing about the power of meeting the one right person. What Mackenna and Jimmy share just felt so right and so good. Those two have such a connection with one another that builds and grows over the course of this book. Those two grow right along with that connection, and they soon realize that what first started off with sparks, is so much more. Getting that more with them gave me it all, and had me rooting with all I had that those two would figure it all out. Their love story in Dropout will pull at your heart, while simultaneously making you blush, and you will eat up every moment of that.
  • A town and cast of characters I can’t get enough of. Now I have to say that part of what made me love this book so much was the small town it took place in, along with the incredible and distinctive supporting characters that came along with it. Beverly, Jimmy’s grandma, is an absolute gem and there was not an instant with that spunky woman where she didn’t make me laugh out loud. The other characters of this book and world add a phenomenal layer to the story between Mackenna and Jimmy, and just pull you in more to what’s happening. I fell in love with them all, and the small town they call home. When I finished this book I knew I needed more with them all, and I can’t wait to read the other books in this series and to get back to that small and wonderful town. I am telling you, you will just love being in this book and world and the goodness that exudes from it.
  • A little something more. One of my favorite aspects of this book was how it pushed both Mackenna and Jimmy to want more. It pushed their emotions, their hearts, and their purposes and dreams. It forced them both to really think about what they wanted, and what they were willing to do for what they desired so much. This book and its events pushed them both to their limits in different ways, and forced them to realize what was important and what they needed. Getting to be with them every step of the way as they figured it all out, as they tried to see what could be between them, and as they pushed for that more was phenomenal. It was exciting and romantic and scary and it forced them to be vulnerable and honest, but in the same breath it showed them all of what could be if they only gave it all a chance. Seeing them take that chance was what made this book so good.
  • Phenomenal writing that hooks you in! This is the first book I’ve read by Jamie Schlosser, but you can rest assured it will not be the last. I loved her writing so much. I loved how it hooked me in right from the start, and allowed me to feel like I was right there with these characters experiencing what they were. I loved how her writing let me sink right into this story, how it let me get and understand these characters, and how it put me right in the thick of it with them. Her writing brought these characters and their story to life in the most consuming way, and that is just part of why I loved what she gave me so much. I look forward to reading more of her words because I have no doubt I will love them just as much as I did with Dropout.

Dropout is a story of how the one person you would have never thought would mean something, can end up being the one person who means everything. This book is a sweet, enrapturing, and humor and heat filled read that will give you a book full of life, love, healing, and the amazing things that can happen when you have all three. This book just made my heart happy. It squeezed it with what these characters go through and their struggles, and it had me loving and rooting for them through every word.

If you are looking for a story that will take you in with all it has, give you so many moments that will have you laughing and smiling and just feeling it all, all while falling head over heels for the serious connection and heart of two characters, then you need this book in your life. I can’t say enough how much I needed a book like this. It just felt good to read this story, to get to know and fall in love with these characters, and to be with them through everything that came their way.

Dropout was well written, unputdownable in the best possible way, and told a phenomenal story of two characters that may have seemed quite opposite, yet connected in all the right ways that mattered. You will love this book, and I am telling you, in the end you will finish it with a full heart and a big smile, and maybe a bit of a blush, and that is just part of what makes this book so incredible.
