Fixing Us Teaser 5.jpg

*****5 Utterly Fantastic Stars*****

So let’s talk about how much I loved every incredible word of this book. From the very first word until the very last, I was swept up into the magic of this world, the dynamic pull of these characters, and the glorious feel of it all. I’m pretty sure I read most of this book with a smile on my face because that is how much I loved it, its characters, and everything I was getting with them on their fight to happily ever after.

Fixing Us by Miranda Elaine is one of my top reads of the year. This book was everything I needed it to be and more. It was funny as hell at times. It was sweet and sassy at others in a way that just made me so damn happy. It was so full of authentic feels and moments that touched my heart with these characters. It was real and enjoyable through every word, and in the end it was such a special story that I wholeheartedly connected to.

This book is all about second chances. Second chances in life. Second chances at love. Second chances with family and friends. And second chances at everything you’ve always wanted.

I LOVE me a good second chance romance. I am a personal believer in second chances, and it is my absolute favorite kind of story to read because there is something so special and so real about a second chance romance and story. There is just such a different dynamic in those kinds of story. The fight is stronger, the feels are deeper in a way because of the past history and what the characters have gone through, and the romance is on point because you know what these characters have been through to get and share those kinds of moments.

And when you couple that with the fact that Gabe and Leigh are faced with the many ups and downs that come with a surprise pregnancy in the middle of that second chance….well that was just the icing on top of the cupcake for this story! It was the best, and the dynamics that that added to everything I was LOVING about this book.

I absolutely loved every single second I got to spend with Gabe and Leigh as they had their second chance at it all. Their story wasn’t easy. It wasn’t all rainbows and unicorns. It was hard. It was messy and complicated and it had a lot of pieces to it with their shared journey, as well as their own individual struggles. They had to work at it with all that they had. They had to work through more complications than they thought possible. They had to wade their way through the murky and treacherous waters of the past, in order to find themselves in the clarity that their future could bring them.

And let me tell you, I basked in getting to see them through all of that. Every word of their second chance at it all solidified my love for those two even more, and showed me how worth it their love was. Every ounce of fight that both Gabe and Leigh had as they made their way through seared them to my heart in every way possible. It also had me rooting for them with all that I had that things would be okay and that they would find their way. I loved their characters fiercely.

I loved what they were fight for, I loved them, and I loved how I got to be there with them EVERY step of the way as they pushed and fought and worked to get to the places they did romantically, emotionally, and mentally. I was with them, in their arena, living and breathing their exceptional story. That is just part of what made this one of the best books I have read this year.

The level of connection to them, this story, and this world that Miranda Elaine created through her words was outstanding, and it is just part of what has made this entire series so amazing.

This series is one that I am so sad to leave because the feel of this world and how inviting it is has made reading these books one of the most incredible reading experiences of my life. I love this world. I love the supporting characters that make it the most special place to be. I love the connections and sense of family all of these characters have with one another. I love that Red Oak isn’t just another place in a book, it’s somewhere that is so real and somewhere so enjoyable to be. Getting to experience Gabe and Leigh’s story in this world was truly incredible, and it honestly just made me love everything I was reading more.

I think what I loved most about this book, and really this entire series, was that I could so truly connect into these characters’ stories and what they were going through, even though I had never actually experienced that myself. I could understand what it was like to feel like your life was stalling out. I could get what it meant to be recovering from the challenges that your life has brought. I understood the challenges in overcoming many different family dynamics and situations. I got what it was like to be so close to someone, so in love with them, and so pulled to them, while also feeling the weight and pressure of reality and life on your shoulders. I got what it was like to want it all, but to always feel like it was just out of reach or even to feel like it wasn’t something you should’ve been reaching for in the first place.

I got it all. I felt it all. I experienced it all.

And that is a true testament to what Miranda Elaine created in Fixing Us with Gabe and Leigh that I got and felt and understood it all with her characters. Her words were everything in this book. They brought her story and her characters to life in a way that was so consuming, so deeply real, and that truly gave me an outstanding level of understanding and connection with everything she was creating. I will never forget what it was like to experience this story with Leigh and Gabe. I read every bit of their story with a heart that felt so much for them and that loved them with all that I had…and it was truly fantastic to get that.

This book had it all. It had the laughs and the fire and the glorious sass of these characters that made is so fun, so full of laughs and memorable moments, and that made it so enjoyable to read. It had the romance and the feels that were so real, raw, and so consuming through every page. It had the embodiment of a second chance romance with the glorious level of fight these characters had and the unadulterated connection they shared. It had moments that made laugh, others that physically hurt my heart with their struggles, and others that made me soar with what they won and found along the way.

Suffice to say, Fixing Us was a book that delivered in every way.

It had the perfect amount of romance, friendship, and family. It was incredibly written and thoroughly enjoyable to experience from start to finish, and it was a book that I loved every single word of. This book was a story all about second chances. Second chances at life and love and family. It highlighted just how far you’re willing to go and how hard you’re willing to fight when love is on the table and at stake. It also highlighted the strength of these characters and the depth of their hearts with everything the shared.

When I finished this book I was sad to say goodbye, but I could not have asked for more with their story. Miranda Elaine exceptionally crafted Gabe and Leigh’s story into one I know I won’t soon forget! She made their connection, their love, and their fight for it all so incredibly special, and I truly feel lucky to have been given the chance to read it and experience it with them!

Miranda Elaine rocked it out of the park with Fixing Us.

Whether this is your first book by her or you’re a person who has come to love the world of Red Oak just as much as I have, you NEED this book in your life.

Trust me.

Gabe and Leigh will take ahold of you with all that they have and they will own your heart as you experience their second chance at it all. Their story isn’t always easy for the two of them, but it is beyond worth it and so are they. You will LOVE every second of being with them in the emotional trenches as they fight their way through it all, and in the end, you will be so damn glad you had the chance to see them attempt to fix each other and their relationship along the way.

Excerpt:

Finally, after what feels like a millennium, the door opens and Dr. Mallard enters, smiling. He’s an older man who is always overly happy. I like him, even if I find his cheerfulness somewhat off-putting at this exact second.

“Mrs. Simms, how exciting to have you here today. This must be your husband.” He walks over to Gabe, who stands, hand extended.

“Sorry, no,” I chime in. “Definitely not my husband.”

“My fault,” he apologizes. “Your boyfriend. This is a new age. Lots of people in lifelong relationships nowadays without marriage.”

Awkward.

“Nope,” I say, popping my P with a bit more attitude than intended. “We aren’t together.” I look over at Gabe, who’s holding his laughter in and I silently yell Help me!

“Just got her knocked up,” Gabe finally speaks. “Classic fairy tale story of ex-sex turning into a baby. Turns out those silly condoms serve a purpose and really shouldn’t be skipped. Who knew?”

“Seriously!” I yell while shooting him daggers with my eyes. All he does to respond is shrug his shoulders and give me an evil grin.

“Okay, Miss Simms, if you can lie back and put your feet up we can check on this little miracle,” Dr. Mallard finally says as the nurse pulls the stirrups out and helps me assume the position.

Even if you don’t want your ex-boyfriend back you still always want them to think of you as the sexy one who got away, not the girl nude and exposed with her legs in the air while a doctor probes her. Great, fucking great.

“Sure.” I lie back and my head jerks to Gabe. “But you stay north of the equator.”

“Not a problem, Leigh.” He smiles at me. “But it ain’t nothing I haven’t seen before.”

“Well, it’s definitely something you’re never seeing again,” I snap back at him, causing the nurse to let a small chuckle escape.

I try to act cool by the fact that the doctor seems to think sticking a huge wand up me is perfectly normal.

Thump thump. Thump thump.

Our bickering immediately stops. The room is dark and the monitor next to me is lit up.

“Is that—” Gabe starts.

“That’s your baby’s heartbeat,” the doctor interrupts. “And if you look over here, you see that small little bean shape in the middle there.” He points to the picture on the ultrasound machine. “That’s your baby. It’s currently approximately the size of a raspberry.”

“Wow,” Gabe and I both somehow say at the same time.

We finish the appointment with a plethora of information. Gabe is quiet and the silliness that existed in the examination room is gone. We check out and walk side by side. Neither of us bringing up everything we need to discuss.

Does him showing up mean he wants to be involved? Does he assume we will get back together? Can we even do this together? Do I want to?

All the questions are running rampant in my head and instead of saying a single one of them I simply say, “I’ll let you know when I have another appointment.”

“Thanks.” He holds the door to the building open, letting me walk outside, him close on my heels. “I want to be here for you and our child as best as I can.”

I nod, but my mind is still back in that office with that beautiful baby. My baby.

“We ought to talk, Leigh.”

“You’re right. But today I got to hear my—our, baby’s heartbeat for the first time. Let’s not ruin it, okay?” We’re standing in the middle of the parking lot, neither of us moving to our respective vehicles.

“Okay, but soon.”

For fans of Nicholas Sparks and Jodi Picoult… A soldier falls in love with his battle buddy’s sister through their letters and returns home from Afghanistan with a secret that could destroy their fragile relationship. Don’t miss THE LAST LETTER by Rebecca Yarros! Grab your copy today!

About THE LAST LETTER:

Beckett,

If you’re reading this, well, you know the “last-letter” drill. You made it. I didn’t. Get off the guilt train, because I know if there were any chance you could have saved me, you would have.

I need one thing from you: Get out of the army and get to Telluride.

My little sister Ella’s raising the twins alone. She’s too independent and won’t accept help easily, but she has lost our grandmother, our parents, and now me. It’s too much for anyone to endure. It’s not fair.

And here’s the kicker: there’s something else you don’t know that’s tearing her family apart. She’s going to need help.

So if I’m gone, that means I can’t be there for Ella. I can’t help them through this. But you can. So I’m begging you, as my best friend, go take care of my sister, my family.

Please don’t make her go through it alone.

Ryan

“I cannot imagine a world without this story.” – Hypable

“A stunning, emotional romance.” – Jill Shalvis, NYT Bestselling Author

Excerpt:

“Ella.” It was a plea to speak, to not speak. Hell, I didn’t know anymore.

“You don’t see me like that. I totally get it.” She reached for the TV remote.

“How exactly do I see you? Please, enlighten me.” I leaned forward, stealing the remote. She’d opened this box and had better well dish it.

She huffed in annoyance. “You see me as a mom. As Colt and Maisie’s mom. And of course you do, because that’s what I am. A mom with two kids.”

“Well, yeah,” I said. Her motherhood—that selfless devotion she had to her kids—was one of her most attractive attributes.

She rolled her eyes with a little sigh, and the metaphorical light bulb went off in my head.

“You don’t think I want you.”

She shot me a look that confirmed my guess and blushed the same crimson of her couch. “You know, you’re right. It’s late.” She faked a yawn. “Suuuuuuper late.”

“I want you.” Damn, it felt so good to say the words.

“Yeah, okay.” She gave me a goofy look and a thumbs-up. “Please don’t make me feel any more idiotic than I do right now.”

Yeah, enough of this bullshit.

I pounced in one smooth motion, taking her back to the couch, sliding over her as I gathered her wrists in one hand above her head and settled between her open thighs.

Home.

“Holy shit, you move fast.” There was no fear or rejection in her eyes, just surprise.

“Not in every arena,” I promised.

Her lips parted.

“Ella. I want you.”

“Beckett…you don’t have to.”

Yeah, that soft little sigh she did was going to be my undoing.

I let go of her wrists, letting my fingers trail down her arm until I had one hand weaving my fingers into the hair at the base of her scalp and the other at the curve in her waist.

“Feel this?” Then I slid forward, letting my dick stroke along the seam in her pajama pants hard enough for her to gasp at the contact. I couldn’t remember ever wanting to shred a piece of fabric so much in my life. “I’ve never wanted a woman as much as I want you.”

I moved again, and her eyes slid shut as she let loose the sweetest moan.

My dick throbbed, knowing everything I’d fantasized about for the better part of the last eight months was one decision away.

“Beckett.” Her hands found my biceps, her nails digging in.

“Don’t ever think that I don’t want you, because if things were different, I would have already been inside you. I would know exactly how you feel, and what you sound like, look like, when you come. I’ve thought about it at least a hundred different ways, and believe me, I’ve got a great imagination.”

She rocked her hips against me, and I locked my jaw to keep from giving her exactly what her body was asking for. “Ella, you have to stop.”

“Why?” she asked, her lips dangerously close to mine. “What do you mean if things were different?” Her eyes flew wide. “Is this because I have kids?”

“What? No. Of course not. It’s because you’re Ryan’s little sister.” Before I could do any more damage, I got the hell off her and sat back on my side of the couch.

“Because…I’m Ryan’s little sister,” she repeated, scooting so she sat upright, facing me. “And you think he’d, what? Haunt you?”

Three things: The letter. The cancer. The lie.

I repeated those in my head until I was certain I could look at her and not drag her back under me.

“Beckett?”

“When I was growing up, if I wanted something, I took it. Immediately. I had sex at fourteen with a girl in my foster home of the moment. I opened Christmas presents early if I was lucky enough to get one, and it was usually from my social worker or some charity.”

“I don’t understand.” She wrapped her arms around her knees again.

“I took it immediately because I knew if I didn’t, chances were I wouldn’t get it. It was a now-or-never kind of thing—there weren’t second chances.”

“Okay.”

“I can’t touch you, can’t talk about it, because I’m afraid I’ll act on it.”

“And why does that matter if I want you to?”

“Because I won’t get a second chance. And I’m crap with people, with relationships. I’ve never had one that lasted more than a month. Never loved a woman I’ve slept with. And chances are I’d do something to screw this up, because it’s not just my dick that wants you, Ella.”

That O popped right back onto her face, and I closed my eyes to keep from lunging across the distance and kissing her. Knowing she’d let me—that she wanted it—sent my need from a bullet to a nuclear missile.

“And when I’d screw it up, because it would happen, trust me, it would hurt Colt and Maisie, too. You’d be on your own again, because there’s no chance you’d let me hang around and help you out like Ryan asked.”

“And there it is.”

“There it is. You’re Ryan’s little sister.”

“There were only five years between us. Not so little, you know.” She reached for the remote.

“I’m well aware.”

“So if Ryan were still alive…” She shot one last look at me.

I let everything slip for a millisecond, letting her see it all in my eyes, how badly I wanted her, and not just for her body. “Everything would be different.”

“Everything?”

“Everything but the way I feel about you, which he probably would have killed me for. Where does that leave us?”

“You mean besides me being a dried-up spinster and you being honor-bound to a ghost?”

“Something like that.”

She rolled her head along the back of the couch, muttering something that sounded like a curse word under her breath. Then she sat up straight and powered on the TV with a click of her thumb. “That leaves us choosing a movie on demand. Because I’m not letting you walk out that door right now.”

“You’re not?”

“Nope. You walk out now, you might get all weird about this and not come back. Honor is a fabulous thing, but sometimes pride can be a lot stronger, especially when you convince yourself it’s for the good of the other person.”

Damn, the woman knew me.

“So movie it is,” I agreed. “Just…stay on your side of the couch.”

“I wasn’t the one who crossed the center line,” she teased with a smile that got me hard all over again.

Movie chosen, we sat and watched, both of us stealing sideways glances. There was that saying…the horse out of the barn. Yeah, the horse was out of the barn, and it wasn’t going back in. Not no way. Not no how.

That horse was running amok and screwing with my carefully constructed control.

But I didn’t complain when she moved over. Or when she pressed against my side. Nope. I lifted my arm and savored the feel of her curves, her trust. Still didn’t complain when she lay down in my arms. Hell no, I held on and memorized every second.

*****5 Fantastic & Vibrant Stars*****

There are some books you read that just feel good. Those are the books that you never want to have end. Those are the books that take ahold of you in their own special way. Those are the books that stick out because of what they bring out in you while you’re reading and the experience they give you as the story unfolds.

It is those kinds of feel good books that I live for. It’s those kinds of books that give me everything. It’s those kinds of books that have me coming back for more of that particular authors books’ because I want and need more of that good reading feeling in my life.

Fixing Him by Miranda Elaine was one of those kinds of books.

It was phenomenal in every possible way. It was fantastically written and crafted from start to finish. It was a book that made me smile, made me laugh my ass off, and just completely stole my heart piece by piece with its characters. It just felt good to read and experience. I can’t say that enough.

Fixing Him was the perfect sweet romance.

This book was all kinds of wonderful. It was a book I could not put down from the moment I started it, and when I was pulled away from these characters and this world, all I could think about was when I could get back to them. I loved every part of this story and being back in the world of Red Oak. These characters that make up this world are incredible, and they make it a place that I truly never want to leave.

What Miranda Elaine brought to life with them in this book was utterly fantastic. I can’t say that enough. She has a true talent with her words, and reading this second book of hers proved that over and over again.

Fixing Him is the second book in this interconnected standalone series, and follows the story of Sam and Montana, and the summer that both of them won’t soon forget. Montana comes to town and the world of this book to handle some affairs for her family. She’s young, fun, and has more spunk and vibrancy than you can shake a stick at. She is a force to be reckoned with that one, and when she sets her sights on Sam Matthews, she knows that she wants to get to know him more. The only problem is he doesn’t think they should be a thing. He thinks he’s too old for her, he thinks he doesn’t have time for a relationship, and he definitely doesn’t think things can go anywhere between them, but she is going to do anything she can to show him that all of his thoughts are wrong.

Sam is instantly attracted to Montana and would give anything in the world to have more with her, but with the weight of the world on his shoulders, he just doesn’t think it’s possible. He’s a man who would do anything for anybody, but he doesn’t think he has the time or commitment for more. When the two of them start to have fun and get to know each other more, things get a lot more real than either of those two bargained for. Montana is like a breath air for the good hearted Sam, and the more time he spends with her, the harder it becomes to not feel what he does.

Fixing Him explores what happens between these two when a summer of fun soon becomes very real, and deeper than either of them two expected it to be.

What I loved about this book was how fun, sweet, and beyond charming it was. This was small town romance at its best. It was full of dynamic and distinctive characters that make this town and world so special and memorable. It was sweet and heartfelt and just bursting with moments that had my heart melting through every single word of what this author created. It was also so much fun. Not a page went by where I wasn’t laughing and smiling something fierce with the antics and personalities of these characters. Especially Montana. That girl is a gem, and I could read ten more books with her spark and life. All of that with the unforgettable romance brought to life on the pages of this book made this story one that I loved every word of.

Miranda Elaine has such a talent with the way that she writes. She not only creates memorable stories and characters, but she creates this tangible ease and good feeling in her books that is so enrapturing. It’s like that glorious feeling of being all toasty warm wrapped up in a blanket that cocoons you in the exact way you need. That’s how her books and stories feel. They feel good. They feel like a place you never want to leave. They feel spectacular and fulfilling.

Her words so authentically create that feeling, and that was ever present in Fixing Him. That made reading and experiencing this book so phenomenal. That combined with the way she wholeheartedly invested me in her characters and in this story made this one of my favorite reads of the year. I already miss her words something fierce, and I honestly can’t wait to get more of them as soon as humanly possible. She has such a talent with storytelling and writing, and that was evident on every single page of this book. ‘

Fixing Him was such a great story because it perfectly blended the best amount of everything.

It was equal parts full of heat, full of fun and spark, and full of characters that my heart was immediately pulled to. The way that Miranda Elaine perfectly weaves together so many pieces in this world and story is just part of what makes this such a fantastic read. This book made me laugh my butt off, it made me smile until my cheeks hurt, it brought tears to my eyes a few times, and it melted my heart more times than I can count. It truly gave me it all, and I can’t say enough how much I loved every single moment I got with these characters.

I really connected to Sam and Montana on such a real level while reading this book. I loved how real they were. I loved how easy it was to feel for them both and to connect with them and their journeys in this story. I loved that they were both doing the best they could with the circumstances they were given. I loved that she was so spunky and fun and vibrant in a way that truly felt like coming up for fresh air. I loved that he was the best guy with a heart of gold who was just trying to keep it all together. I loved that their connection set this book on fire in a way that felt tangible at times.

I loved that what they were sharing felt so real and so meaningful from start to finish. I loved that my heart was with them both every step of the way. I loved that when things got tough, it showed the real grit and fight these two had.

I loved that through every moment these two shared, everything felt unbelievably right.

In this book, Sam and Montana definitely have a lot in front of them that they have to face. They have their own hurdles, they have to figure their own lives out, and in a way they both have to figure out who they want to be and what they want for their lives. Fixing Him not only explores their tangible connection to one another and the feels that begin to grow between them, but it follows the two of them as they learn about themselves. It follows them through some ups and downs. It follows them as they discover what is really important, what they really value, and as they try to figure out who they really want to have in their lives.

Fixing Him is as much as story of self-discovery as it is about love and family and friendship.

What you get with Sam and Montana as they try to figure themselves out, as they try to see what might be happening between them, and as they come to terms with what they’re really building together is outstanding. It is real. It is honest. It is heartfelt in every way possible. And it’s them. It’s their story, their hearts, and every ounce of connection they share, and that is honestly just part of what made this book one of my favorite reads of the year.

This book was everything I needed and more. Miranda Elaine delivered a well written, thoughtfully crafted, and completely enrapturing story that I loved every single word of. This book took ahold of my heart with everything it had as I read it, and I loved Sam and Montana’s story with everything that I had. It felt beyond good to spend time with those two, and I already miss them both so much because they are truly special.

Fixing Him is a story of love, friendship, family, and one helluva spark filled connection that just won’t quit. It is a story of what can happen when you give it all a chance, and a story of what happens when something right just might come out of something that wasn’t even supposed to be in the first place. This is a story that is sweet, full of heart and fire, and distinctive in a way that will have you loving these characters, this world, and the feel of it all with all that you have.

My heart is still in full on love with this story and these characters, and I love that. So damn much.

Excerpt:

“Fuck,” I cry out as we near the cabin. All afternoon it’s been drizzling but not enough to stop our day out by the water. We’re almost back when we hear the first bout of thunder.

It’s deafeningly loud but thankfully not too close . . . yet.

“We should hurry up. Pick up the pace, old man.” She jumps with each thunderclap.

“I could probably go a little faster if you weren’t on my back.” I look over my shoulder and her smile is from ear to ear.

“Wasn’t my idea to hike five miles along the river shore, over rocky hills, and through snake-infested woods. I brought two pairs of shorts, two shirts, two swimsuits, and miscellaneous underwear. But someone forgot to mention the need for sneakers on this surprise vacation.”

“I’m not complaining about you being plastered to me.” I hold her thighs in my hands a tad bit tighter than necessary. I feel the first drop of real rain hit the top of my head.

She wiggles free, scooting down my back, ready to make a run for the cabin when a huge downpour hits us. I’m about to take off running, her hand in mine when I feel resistance on the end of my arm.

“What’s wrong?” I ask as she keeps her feet planted firmly to the ground as the wind and rain pick up all around us. Her loose blond waves are already drenched and the white top she’s wearing is now sheer and damp, showing off the bathing suit top beneath it.

“It’s our rain moment. We have to kiss,” she informs me as if I’m supposed to understand what she’s talking about.

“What are you talking about, sweets? Did lightning strike you?”

“No, Sam. Haven’t you ever watched a romantic comedy? If you are caught in the rain with someone you’re spending time with in a sexual way, then you are by law required to kiss.”

“It’s the law, is it?” I ask with one eyebrow raised. “According to romantic comedy movies?”

“Duh. Now, I know we are temporary. But I’m not sure how often you get stuck in the rain with someone you enjoy being naked with, but this is a first for me. On the chance that it’s the last time, I want my kiss.”

I feel a pain in my chest at the thought of her leaving. When we started it felt like we had all the time in the world to spend wrapped in each other, but with each passing day, I yearn to spend the next with her, but each one is one day closer to fall and her starting the life she deserves to live. Not one trapped in a small town where the man she’s with main focus has to be his handicapped dad.

I do what I need to do to make sure that when she leaves here she leaves forever dreaming of our time together. With the rain pouring down on us I lean over and start by placing a gentle kiss on her lips. Grabbing her ass in my hands, I hoist her up my torso, encouraging her legs to wrap around my body so I can lean her against a nearby tree.

The kiss is instantly hot. I lick the seam of her lips, demanding entry. She doesn’t fight me; my Montana is always open and ready and oh so eager. The thunder is nearing us, but all I can hear are the moans in her throat as her tongue tangles with mine.

Time is moving at a standstill as I kiss her slow, deep, and with the eagerness of someone not ready to let go.

Review Post: Across the Horizon by Aly Martinez

“Sometimes love happens when you least expect it.” That was what my husband’s mistress told me the day I found out about their affair.

I didn’t believe it until five minutes later when mouth-watering celebrity chef Tanner Reese walked up, tossed his arm around my shoulders, and told my cheating husband to take a hike.

Tanner and I couldn’t have been more different. He spent his weekends at clubs, rubbing elbows with fellow A-listers. I spent mine in yoga pants with cheese boards and a glass of wine—or six.

Our relationship shouldn’t have worked, but it did. That is until Tanner proved to me that even though love happens when you least expect it…

So does heartbreak.

*****5 COMPLETELY AMAZING STARS*****

To say that I was ready for this book is the understatement of the century. From the moment I entered this world and met Tanner Reese in The Darkest Sunrise, I NEEDED his story. I needed him. I needed into his head and his heart and I needed all the minutes and hours and days with that man.

And let me tell you, getting into his head and getting his story did not disappoint. Not one little bit.

How do I even begin to explain my love of Tanner Reese?

First, he is the best. Like the absolute best. He is hysterical. He is swoony. He knows how to hold hands like a boss. He is hot AF. He is endearing in a way that is completely irresistible. He is real and so much more than the persona he puts out to the world.

He is Tanner Reese. He’s just him.

And when you read this book, and get to know him, you will realize that that is the best way to describe him. Tanner is Tanner, and nobody could be him, except for him. That is how distinctive his character is.

Across the Horizon is a story of what happens when love and connection and fire comes at the exact wrong time. It is a story that will have you laughing hysterically at the banter of these characters. It is a story that will take ahold of your heart with everything it gives you. It is a story that will make you smile and swoon through every single word. It is a story that will give you it all.

This book is a story of what happens when two people who have no business being together, can’t seem to stay apart, no matter how hard they might try to fight it.

This story follows Tanner Reese and Rita Hartley, two characters who live in very different worlds, yet share more with one another than they ever thought possible. Rita has just broken up with her philandering husband and Tanner has his own relationship mess to handle, but when these two are thrust together in one of the most memorable moments ever, they start to realize that there might just be something so real and so right building between them. Across the Horizon is there story of finding that one person who might just change everything at the exact wrong time.

It is a story filled to the brim with banter, one helluva connection, and a spark that just won’t quit for nothing between its two main characters. And that is just part of what makes it one of my top reads of the year.

What I loved about this story was Tanner and Rita. I mean they made this book. They made it beyond enjoyable. They made it so a page didn’t go by where I wasn’t laughing hysterically at their banter, humor, and personalities. They pulled my heart in with all that they had with how real they were, how honest they were, and how heartfelt they were with where they were at and how they were doing. Not to mention, they had a spark that created a tangible level of build and intensity that was practically palpable on every page of this book.

Rita and Tanner were just phenomenal. They were them from start to finish. Flaws and craziness and all. They were so authentic, so easy to love and relate to, and so easy to root for. From the very start of this story I loved them both, felt completely consumed by them both and what was building between them, and I just could not get enough of them.

I couldn’t get enough of the connection they shared. I could not get enough of how real they could be with one another, and how they had such an exceptional way of knowing and seeing each other. They just immediately understood each other. They immediately saw the truth in each other. They immediately felt a pull that was so intense and so right, even if the timing was so wrong. I just could not get enough of everything that Aly Martinez so phenomenally brought to life with them.

Aly Martinez created a completely unforgettable, vibrant, and wholly enjoyable story in Across the Horizon.

She brought us back to a world, to a group of characters, and to a story that will always hold a piece of my heart. The way that she exceptionally brought Tanner and Rita’s story to life was everything. It really was. The way that she brought me back to a story and a world that I LOVE was everything. The way she wove in Tanner and Rita’s story, without spoiling anything from The Darkest Sunrise and The Brightest Sunrise, while also giving me a new perspective on moments from those stories and that world was EVERYTHING. (It also highlights the shear talent this woman has as a writer that she was able to give me more, without spoiling or giving away too much of the other story that this one connects into. Allllll the snaps for Aly Martinez on that one!)

The way that she put me right in the thick of it with Tanner and Rita as they opened their hearts to one another, as they cut through all the layers, and as they really saw and started to feel for one another was everything.

It was everything and then some.

I really can’t say that enough.

Across the Horizon was the exact book I needed. It was funny, it was light, it was refreshing and full of a life and vibrancy that I could not get enough of. What I loved about this book was that it was on the lighter side for an Aly Martinez book, yet it still had her distinctive writing, and it still had a level of emotion and feels to it that brought tears to my eyes a few times. I loved that as much as she made me laugh while reading this book, she gave me the feels too. She gave me the heart of this story and these characters in a way that seared me to them as everything with them unfolded. She invested me so deeply in them and their journeys as characters, while also keeping me on my toes and reminding me how precariously close those two were to the edge of a cliff.

Trust me when I say that Aly Martinez delivers it all in this book. And while you might think Across the Horizon won’t shock you or emotionally murder you just a bit because of its humor and fun…don’t give up hope quite yet, because Aly Martinez always has a trick or an emotional murder weapon up her sleeve.

Tanner and Rita were also just the best. And in case you’re wondering, Rita Hartley is the perfect match for that man. Tanner Reese is his own force to be reckoned with, and that man needed someone that would keep him on his toes. Rita Hartley is that woman. She is a force to be reckoned with herself. She is fire, she is strength, and she completely understands the appeal of Robb Stark so clearly she is amazing in so many ways. But more than that, she is the perfect woman for Tanner Reese. She gets to him. She makes him want to be the best he can be, and she makes him nervous. She is no wilting flower that girl, and even though I love Tanner with my entire heart and want to keep him to myself forever, if I had to share him with someone, it would be Rita.

Those two share something that is so real and that will touch every part of your heart. It might be the wrong time for them, they might have a world of hurdles in front of them, and it might be crazy, but it’s them. And it works. You will absolutely love getting to be with Tanner and Rita as they feel what they do, and as they try to figure it all out. Their story will give you many memorable moments that will have you laughing your butt off, that will have you feeling all the feels, and that will have you believing with every ounce of your being that these two people belong together.

I truly can’t say enough how much I loved this book and how much I NEEDED this story in my life.

Across the Horizon was everything I needed and more.

It was a story that I have been wanting and needing ever since first meeting both Tanner and Rita. It is a story that gave me life, gave me the feels, and gave me two dynamic characters with a banter and a connection that just wouldn’t quit. This book was exceptionally written and crafted. It was a light and funny read that still packed an emotional punch that will steal your breath away. This story is one that I will never forget, and as I sit here writing this review all I can think about is how much I already miss Tanner and Rita.

I miss their craziness. I miss their banter. I miss their lovable selves that just owned their craziness and everything that they were doing and feeling. I miss their honesty. I miss their palpable connection.

I miss them. So much.

What Aly Martinez created in Across the Horizon with them was phenomenal in every way. She created a story that was worthy of them and that exemplified who they truly are. She made this book that I never wanted to leave, and she made them two characters that I loved and felt for with all that I had. She gave me everything with those two, and she made them both so distinctive and memorable in a way that only she could with her writing.

She gave me it all.

She gave me Tanner. She gave me Rita. She gave me a ninja warrior course, a new love and appreciation of Game of Thrones, the breathtaking meaning of hand holding, and most of all, she gave me a love story that was vibrant, perfectly authentic and heartfelt, and so very fun and so very real.

And honestly, I will forever love what I got with Tanner and Rita in this book because it was everything.

Everything I needed, everything I wanted, everything that was deserving of Tanner and Rita, and everything that I have come to love about a book by Aly Martinez.

I shifted the phone to my other ear and asked her, “Did you just get in bed?”

“If, by bed, you mean carrying a glass of wine out back to swing in the hammock, maybe.”

I bit my bottom lip, my head falling back against the headrest. For most men, this would have been an innocuous statement. But for a hammock connoisseur like myself, this was the normal guy equivalent of her saying that she liked to give blowjobs during halftime.

“You have a hammock out back?”

There was a delay in her response, which was followed by a subtle kiss of her lips on what I assumed was a wine glass. “Don’t knock it until you try it. It’s one of the most underrated luxuries in outdoor furniture.”

“Oh, I’m not knocking anything. Rope or quilted?”

“Mayan, actually.”

“Oh, sweet heavenly baby Jesus, she’s beautiful and knows her hammocks. I’ve never been so turned on in my life.”

She giggled, pausing for another sip. “You know, if you leaked this hammock fetish to the press, you could probably increase demand by five million percent and singlehandedly lower the country’s unemployment rate.”

Okay, so at some point during the day, she’d figured out who I was.

But! Even with this knowledge, she was trying to avoid a date with me and was not elbow-deep in planning our televised wedding. This was a definite plus in my book.

“Yeah, but then, when I talked to beautiful women like yourself, I’d have no idea if the hammock was your idea or a ploy to impress me.”

“Jeez, that’s sad, Tanner,” she said, her sweet Southern accent like a wave rolling over my name.

I’d meant it as a joke, but it was the absolute truth when it came to dating. Early on in my career, I’d done a rapid-fire interview about my personal life. One of the questions had been: What would your ideal woman order on the first date? Truth be told, the only thing I hoped my ideal woman would order was something she wanted. I didn’t factor into that. But I’d been on my last question in my last interview of the last day of a month-long press tour. My face had hurt from fake smiling, I’d been in desperate need of a shower, a smoke, and sleep, and my mind had been mush, so I’d prattled off the first thing that had come to mind: shrimp and grits.

That one little answer somehow made it onto my Wiki page, and after that, every woman I’d taken out ordered shrimp and grits. One of them even had a shellfish allergy and nearly ended up in the hospital. And this insanity was not limited to women outside of the spotlight.

I’d once gone on a date with America’s princess of pop, Levee Williams. We’d hit it off at a charity event. For one of the most famous women in the world, she was a surprisingly nice girl, gorgeous, and funny as all get out. But the first time I took her out? One guess what she ordered.

I was at the end of my rope with dating and lost my freaking mind before storming out like an asshole. That night, as I was reporting shrimp and fucking grits as an error to Wiki, I noticed that her page listed it as her favorite food. I’d never had the balls to contact her again, and I once hid behind a palm tree on Rodeo Drive when I heard the clamoring of paparazzi calling her name. But that’s neither here nor there.

In short, while finding a woman was all too easy, dating was hard.

But that wasn’t about to stop me from trying with Rita.

Originally from Savannah, Georgia, USA Today bestselling author Aly Martinez now lives in South Carolina with her four young children.

Never one to take herself too seriously, she enjoys cheap wine, mystery leggings, and baked feta. It should be known, however, that she hates pizza and ice cream, almost as much as writing her bio in the third person.

She passes what little free time she has reading anything and everything she can get her hands on, preferably with a super-sized tumbler of wine by her side.

In Her Space, the stunning conclusion to the Stars Duet by Amie Knight is available NOW!

In-Her-Space-PRINT-FOR-WEB

I was reunited with Livingston Montgomery in the broad sunshine of a Carolina morning, right where she belonged; in the light.

It’d been too long since I’d seen her face.

She had changed, but so had I.

I was Adam Nova, reformed bad boy. Now, successful business man.

I had it all, except for the one person I’d always wanted, and now I was back to claim her.

She was living in the shadows, just a shell of the former girl I knew.

But it didn’t matter that she tried to hide from me in the dark.

I’d follow her into the deepest depths of hell.

I just wanted to be In Her Space.

*****5 Unforgettably Emotional Stars*****

Ever since I was young, when I’ve looked up at the night sky I’ve always looked for Orion. He’s the hunter in the night sky. He’s also the constellation I always find myself looking for and thinking of whenever I look up at night. Admittedly that’s probably because it’s the easiest constellation for me to find, but there’s always been a part of me that’s connected to that particular constellation. Orion is always there, and always just one look above.

Reading this duet has given me a new appreciation for the night sky and constellations. I don’t think I’ll ever look up at the night sky in the same way after getting what I did with Adam and Liv in this book. I honestly think it’s impossible to read this book and this duet, to experience its literal magic and impact, and to not see the stars and the night sky in a different way.

In Her Space is the conclusion to The Stars Duet, and it is hands down one of the best books I have EVER read.

I could not have asked more more with the conclusion to this duet. I could not have asked for more from Adam and Liv. This last part of their epic romance was angsty, full of heart and emotion and moments I physically felt with these characters as everything came to be. Their story in this book took my breath away. Literally. I felt the hurt and the emotion and everything that came these characters’ ways. This story made me cry my eyes out for a multitude of reasons. It connected me so deeply to both Adam and Liv and everything that unfolded with them.

This book was everything I needed and more with these characters. It was fitting of their journey together and it brought their story to a beyond satisfying end that I will never forget. I think that was what I love so much about In Her Space. It felt fitting of Liv and Adam. It felt like the right next step for their journey together. It felt like them through every word. What Amie Knight created in this book was perfect. It was complicated and heart wrenching and eviscerating at times to read, but in the same breath it was everything I and these characters needed. It was healing, it was everything coming full circle, and it was and ending that felt right for these characters.

In Her Space was the perfect conclusion to this duet with Adam and Liv. It had every aspect that I fell so deeply in love with from the first part of their story, and this second part just built upon that fierce love even more. I didn’t think it was possible for me to love Adam and Liv more than I already did, but this book showed me again and again that my love for those two is infinite. My love for them grew exponentially in this conclusion, and that had me loving every single word of what this author so exceptionally crafted and brought to life with them.

I literally could not ask for more than what I got with Adam and Liv in In Her Space. I am telling you, if you loved and enjoyed the first part of their story, you will LOVE everything you get with them in this second part. You will love how even thought this book takes place years in the future, at their core Adam and Liv are still who they are. You will love the feel of this book. You will love how this book will continue to push at the cracks those two and their story left in your heart, and in the same breath how they start to fill them in piece by piece. You will love how this book will push you to the edge again and again, how it will push your heart to its very limit, and how it will have you in it all with Adam and Liv as they come back together again.

You will love it all because this book is Adam and Liv. It is them in the most honest, raw, and real way, and what you get with them in this part of their story will have you knowing again and again why you love them so much in the first place.

I wish I could tell you all the things about this book and what it’s going to give you, but I also don’t want to ruin any morsel of a moment of what you’ll experience in this book. To ruin any piece of this story would take away from the literal amazingness that are these characters and their unforgettable story. It would break my heart for that to happen.

All I can say is read this book. Read it. Feel it. Open yourself up to these characters, and they will do the same to you…and I’m telling you, they will blow you away and leave you in awe with what you so spectacularly get with them. This story will keep you on your toes from start to finish. It will break you at times, make you at others, and in between you will get one of the most consuming and enrapturing love stories you have ever read.

You will get Adam and Liv. You will get the final pieces of their journey. You will get them at their worst and at their very best. You will get their flaws, their fight, their triumphs and setbacks. You will see just how far those two are willing to go for the love they never forgot and for the feelings that never faded in the years that have passed.

You will see every inch of their hearts and souls in this book, and I promise that that will give you everything with them. EVERYTHING.

It has been a long time since two characters have touched my heart as much as Adam and Liv did while I read their story. I honestly can’t say that enough. As I sit here writing this review thinking about them and everything I got with them in their epic and breathtaking story, it honestly brings tears to my eyes. Those two are just everything. Amie Knight connected me so much to them both, to their individual journeys and struggles, and to every step of their love together in a way that I will NEVER forget.

She made them both so real to me. She made them two people that I fell so deeply in love with. She allowed me to feel every bit of their story. She allowed me to get them on the most authentic of levels, and in a way that permanently seared me to them. She allowed me to understand every reason behind who they were, why that was, and where they were both fighting so hard to go.

She gave me them. In every way possible. And I will never forget that or anything that she gave me along the way with them.

What Amie Knight so beautifully and meaningfully creates in this book will have you knowing without a doubt that what you get with Adam and Liv will stay with you long after you finish their story on the pages of this book. And that is just part of what makes their story so spectacular and so incredible to experience.

Let me tell you what I know about this duet.  I know that I love Adam and Liv with all that I have. I know that I loved every single magnificent word of their love story, and I know that I will never read a story that brings everything together in the spectacular way that theirs did. I know that these two are amazing and kind of complicated, yet so easy to love. I know that this story made me cry all the tears. I know that every moment of this epic romance and duet broke every piece of my heart, while simultaneously putting it all back together again. I know that this story made me feel things that I have never felt before.

I know that there is magic in the stars. I know that there is power and breathtaking beauty in the night sky. I know that second chances really can give you everything if you open yourself up to them. I know that fighting with your heart and giving it your all might not be easy in the least, but that it is oh so worth it in the end.

I know that real love, all-consuming, keep you up at night, never gonna let you go, love is worth everything. And then some.

I know that the heart’s capacity for love and healing and more truly knows no bounds.

I know that stars and wishes and the night sky hold a truth and a sense of magic and power that can give you it all if you only let yourself feel it, have it, and believe in it.

I know that love can truly be written in the stars, and that you might just find yourself holding the pen and the light that changes everything and brings you home.

I know all of that because of Adam and Liv, because of this book, and because of their unforgettable story in this duet.

I know all of that and more because of them.

As I sit here writing this review, it’s night time. If I look out my window I can just make out Orion’s belt…but that’s not all I think of or see when I look at the night sky. Not anymore at least. Now I see a boy and a girl who were both lost in their own way. I see two souls who were looking for something they didn’t even know they needed. I see a coke bottle and a field that are more precious than any gem.

Now when I look up at the night sky I see Nova and Luna.

I see Adam & Liv.

I see their journey, I see their hearts, I feel their magic and fight, and most of all I see and feel every ounce of their love. I see them in the stars, and most of all I feel in awe when I look up at the night sky because what those two share is truly written in the stars. What they share together is truly magical, beyond special, and unique in such an unforgettable way.

What those two share belongs in the night sky because no entity other than the night sky is worthy enough of those two and their love.

Theirs is a story of heart, of fight, of unimaginable heartbreak and emotion, but most of all, it’s a story of true, epic love and it’s never ending power and presence. And just like the night sky, their love and their story will never truly end because there is no end to something that big or that special or that literally amazing.

There is no end…there’s just infinite possibilities…and stars…and love.

I don’t think I’ll ever look up at the night sky again without seeing or thinking about Adam and Liv…and I honestly wouldn’t have it any other way.

Excerpt:

“Come to my office now.” Patience had never been a virtue for this man.

“Adam, please.” My voice even sounded desperate to my own ears. Couldn’t he just give me a break one fucking day? Since he’d been home, my life had been in turmoil.

I think it was the use of his first name that gave him pause and gave me a bit of hope that he was going to leave me the hell alone today.

“My office. Now. I’m the boss.” And then he clicked off.

“Bastard,” I whispered.

A click. “I heard that.” And then another click.

I rolled my eyes as I cleaned my paper mess. I made sure to take my damn time going to his office. He may have been my boss, but he wasn’t the boss of me. Yeah, I was pretty mature today.

I knocked at the door and no one answered, so I knocked again. Harder.

Eventually, Adam turned the knob and opened it, his cell phone to his ear. He motioned with his hand for me to have a seat in the chair in front of his desk while he sat behind his desk, still on the phone.

The longer I sat there, the angrier I got. I didn’t even want to come in here and he insisted on it so he could sit his ass on the phone and look at me. It didn’t even seem like he was really talking to anyone except for the occasional yes or good from his mouth. He was making my already shitty day even shittier.

He finally hung up the phone and just gazed at me from the other side of the desk.

I raised my eyebrows at him. “Was there something you needed from me, Mister Nova?”

He ran a hand over the scruff of his jaw. “Ya know, Liv. This Mister Nova shit is getting really fucking old.”

I wasn’t in the mood for his bullshit today and I could tell he was really planning on giving it to me. “Ya know, Mister Nova, this calling me into your office for no fucking reason is getting really old, too.”

He stood up and stalked around the desk toward me like a predator after its prey. “I hate it when you cuss.”

I pursed my lips. “I hate it when you boss me around.”

“I want to kiss the sass right out of you.”

I stood up and we were toe-to-toe. “Don’t you even think about it,” I breathed.

He grabbed me by my hips and swung me around until I was pinned between him and the desk. “Oh, I think about it all the time and who’s going to stop me?”

My eyes fluttered closed. Oh fuck, he was getting to me. The fever was back. Making me hot and bothered and wanton, but I wasn’t easy. “My knee.”

“Oh, come on.” His nose brushed the side of mine. “I just want a taste.”

The smell of sweet smoke invaded my senses, making me crazed and incredibly dumb because I whimpered. And that was all she wrote.

His hands went to the back of my head and gripped my hair tight, angling my head just how he liked, and he didn’t just press his lips to mine. No, this wasn’t one of Adam’s sweet, thoughtful kisses. He pillaged my mouth. The man kissed me like he was drowning and I was his only source of air.

He bit at my lips and pulled my hair, the sting, the sheer intensity of the moment causing me to groan. I was angry and hot and God, I wanted him. I wanted to forget today. I wanted to bury myself in his kisses and passion for just a few minutes. I wanted to forget the time that had separated us. I wanted to pretend we hadn’t been separated for years and miles. I wanted to remember when he was mine and I was his.

He slid his hand up the outside of my thigh, almost like he’d held my hand all those years ago, with such thought, agonizingly slow and right up under my skirt. My heart raced in my chest. It beat so loudly in my ears, it was all I could hear.

“What are you doing?” I whispered, desperate for him to continue, praying he stopped. This was the best worst idea in the history of ideas.

“What I’ve been wanting to do since I saw you in that little black dress at the Gala. The dress you wore to torture me,” he growled, dropping to a knee while he shrugged out of his suit jacket.

My face grew hot as he pushed my skirt up, trailing his fingers up the outside of my thighs, sliding his palms up the inside, like his hands were on a leisurely walk, instead of seducing the hell out of me.

“This is a bad idea,” I panted, clutching the edge of his desk in my hands as his fingers brushed the apex of my thighs. “You’re my boss. You’re my ex-boyfriend. I’m not even sure you like me.”

“On the contrary, this is the best idea I’ve had in years.” His head dipped, and the sting of teeth right at the top of my thigh was dangerously close to where I ached. “And I’m gonna show you how much I like you.”

In Her Space, the stunning conclusion to the Stars Duet by Amie Knight is LIVE!

In-Her-Space-PRINT-FOR-WEB.jpg
