The Beautiful Series by Christina Lauren (And how Winter Storm Jonas turned out to be so completely worth it!)

There are very few good things that can come from a massive winter storm that dumps over 2 feet of snow. Very few things indeed. I’ve spent the last 8 days in my house, without getting my daily fill of Dunkin’ Donuts coffee (tragic, I know!), and I haven’t gone to work in all of that time. (<—-That was actually a positive because let’s be honest, as a molder of young tiny humans’ minds, I will take any snow days I can get! Even if it means I’m teaching until July.)Winter Storm

Basically, I’ve spent the last week within the confines of my house because of a lovely little monster named Winter Storm Jonas that brought snow to a place where people freak out at just the thought of snow. (Seriously, who named this storm?! I can’t help but laugh every time I write that.)

But alas I can always find a silver lining in anything, because while this winter storm decided it was time for us to have the season of winter ALL AT ONCE, it gave me something else….

It gave me Bennett and Chloe and their banter filled selves. Heart those two something fierce. It also gave me Max *major sigh* and Sara, who melted me and then melted me again. And again. Then it gave me Will and Hanna, and their wonderful selves that had my heart fluttering and practically palpitating. Then it rounded it all out with Niall and Ruby…who will forever own a little piece of my heart, that is conveniently placed next to the pieces all these characters now own. And then there was George who just brought it all home in only a way that he could.

So what did Winter Storm Jonas so thoughtfully give me you ask? Well it gave me The Beautiful Series by Christina Lauren.

Beautiful Series

And no it didn’t actually shoot these books out of the sky onto my doorstep right next to that mountain of snow it left in its wake, but what it did do was give me the chance to FINALLY read this series that I have been meaning to read for forever. I can’t tell you how many times people have told me I NEEDED to read these books. (They were so fucking right, in case you were wondering.) I also can’t tell you how long I’ve owned all of the books in this series. (I’m kind of ashamed to admit that I’m pretty sure I’ve owned all of these books for quite some time.) And before you say what you’re thinking, yes I am a complete idiot for waiting to read these books. I was wrong to not read them the instant I bought them all. I. WAS. SO. WRONG.

This series, these books, and these characters and their vibrant stories are ones that I will never forget reading. The enrapturing, intense, and all-consuming stories these books gave me with these characters were extremely well written, thoughtfully crafted, with the perfect blend of romance, feels, and so many moments that will have you swooning and melting into a puddle of girl mush. Christina Lauren’s lively, effervescent, and seamless writing brought the world of these books to life in the most all-feeling and captivating way.

They gave me their characters. Boy did they give me those characters in the most authentic and amazing way. They allowed me to fall so damn hard for them, and along the way they gave me out of this world stories that were filled with the best antics, banter filled moments, heart melting feels, and more heat and connection and fiery tension filled build than you can shake a stick at. They let me understand their characters and their motives. They let me see and feel and experience the sparkling and distinctive personalities they all had. They gave me them at their best, and sometimes they gave me them at their very worst. They let me get the full scope of them. Their highs and lows, their hopes and wants, their fears and everything in between. I saw these characters be open and honest and I saw their walls crumble. I also saw them act like complete butts from time to time, but that just made me love them more, because I got them 100%. I understood them, I got where they were coming from, and through it all I fell harder and harder for their dynamic selves and the effervescent and seriously charming spells they all cast.

12642558_10153968319189214_5287369289266588339_n

I took this picture to celebrate the fact that I was finally starting this series. I think Gretchen Wieners would approve.

Basically these books gave me it all. And when I say that, I hope you know I mean that literally. These books give you it all. They’re fun, engaging, and so many moments in this series will have you smiling and laughing at the antics these characters get into and the crazy wonderful moments they share. They also have the best level of passion, unadulterated heat and connection, and romance and feels that will have you hoping with all you’ve got that these characters can really find a way to make it all work because they’re that right for one another.

Each book in this series gives you a new couple to fall in love with. A new book to fall head over heels for, and a new story that is unique, phenomenally written, and full of life and love and more feeling than you can believe. Each novella fills the gaps in between, and will have you relishing in what these characters get into together, and the relationships they all share. (Those novellas are not to be missed!!) The Beautiful Series lets you fall heart first into it all with these characters, and Christina Lauren’s writing talent lets you experience it all. These books outstandingly explore family relationships, friendships, hopes and wants and fears, and the wonderful and amazing thing that is all-consuming, heart stopping love and connection, and the amazing things that can bring you, if you only give it a chance.

Whether it was with Bennett and Chloe and their heated, banter filled, and seriously hot love-hate relationship that pushed the boundaries they’d so carefully crafted…Or with Max and Sara and their swoony and all-feeling exhibitionist ways as they explored what more could mean for them if they broke down those walls…Whether it was with Will and Hanna as a friendship and favor to an old friend soon turns into an exploration of feelings and an infatuation that will change everything…Or with Niall and Ruby who find that when opposites attract and come together everything they think they know will change in ways they never thought possible.

Whether it was New York, or London, or San Diego, Chicago or anywhere in between, each book in this series takes you on a distinctive journey with each of these unforgettable couples as they explore the intense feelings and connections they share, and how what they’re feeling and experiencing could really be the real thing if they only allow themselves to have it.

Simply put, The Beautiful Series by Christina Lauren is one of the best series I have EVER read. I loved each and every story they gave me, every character they let me fall hopelessly in love with, and in the end I felt completely fulfilled and satisfied with what I got from these books. This is writing and storytelling and romance at its best, and I loved and adored every vibrant, lively, and mesmerizing word of it.

So yes, Winter Storm Jonas sucked. Like a lot. But a part of me will always be grateful for that hysterically named winter storm, because it finally gave me the time to read an AMAZING and unforgettable series that I loved with everything I had. (And yes, I could still kick myself for waiting so long to read them. Even now.)

So while you might not have a winter storm on the horizon, I beg to you, I plead to you, read these books. Let them capture you with all that they’ve got, let them make you swoon and melt (and blush!) through every page, let them wow you and make you crazy in love with these characters, and let them give you one of the best and most fulfilling reading experiences you’ll ever had. Trust me. They’re worth it in every way possible way, and in the end you’ll love every second you got to spend with these characters, their stories, and the literal amazingness that is Christina Lauren’s writing and storytelling.

He never expected that the assistant who’d been helping him from abroad was the gorgeous, innocently provocative—completely infuriating—creature he now has to see every day. Despite the rumors, he’s never been one for a workplace hookup. But Chloe’s so tempting he’s willing to bend the rules—or outright smash them—if it means he can have her. All over the office.

“Not in my cab!” the cabbie yelled so loud we both jumped and then broke into laughter. He pumped the brakes, jolting us. “Not in my cab!”
“Don’t worry, mate,” I told him. I turned to her and murmured, “She doesn’t let me fuck her in cars. Or on Tuesdays.”
“She doesn’t,” she whispered, though she did let me kiss her again.
“Shame,” I said into her mouth. “I’m good in cars. And especially good on Tuesdays.”

The whole city knows that Max Stella loves women, not that he’s ever found one he particularly wants to keep around. Despite pulling in plenty with his Wall Street bad boy charm, it’s not until Sara—and the wild photos she lets him take of her—that he starts wondering if there’s someone for him outside of the bedroom.

Until the day I run into him—my one night stand from college with the cocky smile, let’s-get-out-of-here eyes, and dirty, dirty mouth.

Levi Brooks is six feet four inches of hot bearded fantasy. A sexy single dad with broad shoulders, strong hands, and a fantastically big…heart. (I mean, it’s massive. And generous. And it pumps so hard… um. Sorry. Lost my place.)

But he lives for his son, and he’s keeping me at a distance because he thinks I deserve someone better—a man who can give me more time, more attention, more of himself. He doesn’t believe he could ever be enough.

But he’s wrong.

He’s everything.

“So.” I glanced out the windows to the patio. “You want to go back out there?”“Not really,” she said.

“You want to get out of here?”

She grinned. “Yeah. I do.”

I watched her rush up the stairs to get her things, and as soon as she was out of sight, I adjusted myself in my pants. My dick had jumped to life the second she said yeah, I do, as if the question had been you want to get naked and fuck? rather than something much less suggestive. Not that I didn’t want to get naked and fuck—hopefully I’d last a little longer than I had in the broom closet eleven years ago—but I didn’t want to make her feel like that’s what I expected. She wasn’t a horny nineteen-year-old college student anymore; she was a doctor, for fuck’s sake. She was beautiful and smart and mature and sophisticated, and a woman like her did not want some Neanderthal who probably needed a haircut and a new pair of shoes to throw her up against a wall for a five-minute fuck.

A woman like that deserved attention all night long. She deserved someone who would undress her slowly and delight in each new inch of her skin as it was revealed. Someone who would run his hands all over her body and find out where she liked to be touched, how she liked to be touched, what she wanted to hear whispered to her in the dark. Someone who would wrap those gloriously long legs around his neck and use his tongue until she begged for his cock, then use his cock until she begged for mercy.

Fuck. I could be that guy.

Except I couldn’t be. Not tonight. Because I wasn’t a horny college student anymore either—I was just a horny single dad who didn’t have the luxury of taking a woman home and lavishing all my time and attention on her the way I wanted to.

As soon as I had the thought, I felt guilty. Scotty was the love of my life and always would be, and whenever I felt the slightest bit resentful about something I couldn’t do because of him, that resentment was immediately crushed by shame. He didn’t ask to be born wired differently, into a terrible relationship, to a mother who would decide she couldn’t handle being a parent, to a father who wasn’t prepared for any of it. He was completely innocent, and he needed me to be a better man.

Running a hand through my hair, I exhaled and wondered if I should ask Jillian for a raincheck on a night when Scotty’s usual sitter could be there. If he woke up again and I wasn’t home yet, he might never get back to sleep. We’d be up all night, tomorrow would be miserable, and the whole start to the week would be off.

But she was so beautiful. And I hadn’t been this attracted to someone in so long.

“Fuck,” I muttered, checking my watch. What was the right thing to do? If she were a different sort of woman, if her brother-in-law weren’t my friend and client, if we lived three states apart…if any number of circumstances were changed, I’d grab her hand, drag her out to my car, and spend the next thirty minutes fucking her brains out in the back seat. It would feel so good to take control that way, to lose control that way, to release some of this fucking tension. But was that fair to her?

My phone buzzed in my pocket.

“Hello?”

“He’s up again.” Monica’s voice was strained, and in the background I heard the familiar keening of a nighttime meltdown. My chest hurt, the way it always did when Scotty was upset.

“Shit. OK, I’m on my way. Twenty minutes, OK? Thirty at the most.”

“OK.”

“Tell him he can play on his iPad.”

“That’ll just rile him up more. He’s tired. He needs to go to sleep.”

I clenched my fist. “Just do it, OK? It will help calm him until I get there.”

As I ended the call, I heard footsteps above, and then Jillian appeared at the top of the stairs carrying a small suitcase. I watched her descend, the tightness in my chest growing. Also the tightness in my pants. “Hey.”

“Hey,” she said, her face concerned as she reached the ground and saw my expression. She set down the suitcase. “What’s up?”

Sighing, I put my phone back in my pocket. “I have to get home. Scotty woke up and he’s upset.”

“Oh.” She tried to hide it, but I saw the disappointment in her eyes.

“I’m really sorry. I’ll make it up to you, I promise.”

“That’s OK. I understand.”

“Can I call you?”

“Of course.” She smiled, and her lips looked so soft and inviting, I took a step closer.

If you kiss her, it will be that much harder to leave.

I knew it was the truth, but I couldn’t help myself. One kiss. Just one. And then I’ll go. I moved even closer and took her head in my hands.

The curve of her smile deepened. “What are you doing?”

“I’m thinking about kissing you.”

“Stop thinking.”

I lowered my lips to hers and let them rest there, fully intending the kiss to be short and sweet, just a goodnight.

But I couldn’t break it off. I wanted more—I wanted to taste her. Slanting my head, I changed the angle of the kiss, teasing her mouth open with mine, slipping my tongue between her lips. A little sigh escaped her, and my dick jumped to life again.

You have to go, you have to go, you have to go.

But her hands were moving up my chest and my fingers were sliding into her soft brown hair and I could smell something sweet and citrusy on her skin and it mingled with the taste of whiskey on my tongue and oh God, I wanted my tongue everywhere on her body. I wanted make her come with it just so I could hear that little sigh again and again and again. And I wanted to feel my hands in her hair just like this while she got on her knees and took my cock between her lips, looking up at me with those big blue eyes…

Groaning, I forced myself to take my lips off her before I completely lost my senses. “God, I wish I could stay,” I said, resting my forehead against hers. “I wish a lot of things.”

“I know.” She played with my tie again. “I wish I was taking this tie off you, not straightening it.”

“What a coincidence, that’s one of my wishes too.”

She laughed and kissed me quickly. “Another time, maybe. You better go.”

Synopsis2

There are some debts you can’t repay.

Josh Walker is loyal, reckless, and every girl’s dream. But he only has eyes for December Howard, the girl he’s craved since his high school hockey days. Together they have survived grief, the military, distance, and time as they’ve fought for stolen weekends between his post at Ft. Rucker and her college at Vanderbilt. Now that Josh is a medevac pilot and Ember is headed toward graduation, they’re moving on—and in—together.

Ember never wanted the Army life, but loving Josh means accepting whatever the army dictates—even when that means saying goodbye as Josh heads to Afghanistan, a country that nearly killed him once before and that took her father. But filling their last days together with love, passion, and plans for their future doesn’t temper Ember’s fear, and if there’s one thing she’s learned from her father’s death, it’s that there are some obstacles even love can’t conquer.

Flight school is over.

This is war.

My Review

*****5 Unforgettable & All-Feeling Stars*****

Hallowed Ground by Rebecca Yarros is one of the most deeply emotional, phenomenally written, and utterly enrapturing books that I have ever read. As I sit here writing this review, I’m not sure if I’ll even come close to capturing what it was like to read this incredibly written book, what it was like to experience it’s varied and superbly captured emotion and feeling, or what it was like to read Josh and Ember’s unforgettable, all-feeling, and breathtakingly beautiful love story. I probably won’t even come close to capturing an ounce of the amazingness that is this book, but I am sure going to give it my all to tell you about why you need to read Hallowed Ground this very instant because this book, this story, and this author’s serious talent deserves that.

Seriously. You need Hallowed Ground in your life. You need Josh and Ember, and you surely need their heartfelt and consuming love story to wrap you up in its welcoming arms. You need this story in your heart, and in your mind, and in your very soul, because trust me when I say this book and everything within its wondrous pages will take root in all three of those places.

You need them, and you need it. What you get in this book, what it allows you to experience through every breath and feeling and thought of these characters, and what it so authentically and viscerally gives you is not to be missed. The journey it takes you on with Josh and Ember is extraordinary in every way, and you will feel it, and live it, and experience every ounce of it with everything you have because Rebecca Yarros’s exceptional writing gives you that.

Hallowed Ground is the continuation of Josh and Ember’s enrapturing love story that began in Full Measures. (*major sigh* because I loved that book something fierce…) They have been through quite a bit those two. From flight school and college, to loss and healing, to a long distance relationship they are more than ready to see come to an end, as they finally move in together and start their lives together as one solid unit. They’re ready and excited and hopeful, and then life throws something their way…a deployment.

Hallowed Ground follows Josh and Ember as they face that deployment, its ramifications, and the life altering things it throws their way. Now while I won’t reveal what happens in this book, because spoilers ain’t cool, what I will say is that the events of Hallowed Ground test Josh and Ember in ways they never even imagined. It pushes them both to their limits. Past their limits even. It makes them question their choices, it makes them fight with all that they have because of what comes their way, and it forces them to face many hard truths about themselves, their relationship, and what’s to come.

The events of this book are not easy. They will pull at every single emotion, feeling, reaction, thought, choice, connection, and breath that both Josh and Ember have. And in turn it’ll pull at all of that for you too because when I say you are in this story, you are in this story. Living it. Word for word with these characters. You’re in it all, and that will connect you to everything that’s happening in the most authentic, all-feeling, and intense way.

The events of Hallowed Ground will awe you, and they might even break you a bit (or a lot) too, but all I can say is keep reading. Keep experiencing its literal amazingness. Keep going through it all with Josh and Ember because it is a story, an experience, and a heartfelt emotional journey you will absolutely never forget.

I don’t know if I have ever felt a book as much as this one. When I tell you I felt this book with everything that I had, I am not exaggerating one bit. This book made me laugh, and smile, and feel happiness like it ain’t even funny. It filled me with so much good, so much love and hope, and there were so many moments that had my cheeks hurting because I was smiling and feeling so much.

Then there were moments that completely broke me, hurt me, and had me trying to pick up the pieces that were left of my emotions and heart. Moments that made me cry and cry and cry some more because of what these characters go through. Moments that had me practically sobbing because of what I was reading and whole heartedly experiencing. There were so many moments that had me wondering how in the world everything would work out for Josh and Ember, moments that brought every lick of emotion to my throat, and literally had my breath catching and my heart throbbing because of what I was reading.

And that was all just in the first 35% percent of this book…don’t even get me started on the other 75% and what that continued to make me feel.

I have pretty much come to the conclusion that Rebecca Yarros was bound and determined to give me all the feels and emotions, and she succeeded in that respect immensely. Probably more than any other book or author has in a long time. Her and her bucket of all-feeling feels had me in this book as much as I possibly could be, investing me emotionally, physically, and mentally in it all. And I loved that. Boy did I love that, and I relished in every second of it.

Now please don’t let me saying all that scare you, because at the end of the day this is a love story, and let me tell you, Rebecca Yarros gives you one helluva romantic love story. Hallowed Ground is full of romance and heat and more connection than you can shake a stick at. Many moments will have you feeling and basking in all of that love. Others will have your cheeks turning a wonderful shade of pink too. This book will melt you, it will fill you with love in ways you never knew possible, and in the end you’ll be a swooning emotional mess wishing that you had your very own Joshua Walker to come home to.

One of my very favorite aspects of Hallowed Ground was the evolution I got to see and experience in Josh and Ember’s characters, as well as in their relationship. Like I said, the events of this book push them both in ways neither of them were prepared for. It forces them to make some very hard choices, to really examine their lives, and to dig down deep, underneath all the bs and nonsense, and see what they wanted, what they needed, and what they couldn’t live without.

There were so many moments while reading when I saw and felt how far they’d come. I felt that change, and I saw the amazing things it could bring them. There were also many times when I wanted to shake them silly because of what they were doing or saying or thinking, but even in those moments I completely understood where it all was coming from. I got it and I got them, and that is all a testament to the exceptionally crafted story and characters Rebecca Yarros created.

Experiencing Josh and Ember’s evolution as characters, how their relationship grows and evolves into something that was even more real, more mesmerizing, and more all-feeling, and being with them through every emotional up and down they go through was everything. It truly was everything.

Hallowed Ground gives you a world of experiences to live and feel and love through from beginning to end. It allows you to experience first love, and the tenacity it has when two people truly find their match and their reason for being. It lets you experience what it means to truly have a family, friends, and people who support and love you with everything they have.

It also allows you to experience a glimpse of what it’s like to be in the military and to be a military spouse. This is something I myself have never personally experienced, yet through what Rebecca Yarros gave me in this book, in this entire series really, I feel like I have such a better understanding and appreciation of what it means to be in the military or with someone who is. She allowed me to see what it means to make those kind of sacrifices and difficult choices, what it’s like to feel that hope and that fear in your very core, what it’s like to worry and to pray with all you have, and the unimaginable and life changing things that can come your way.

She also showed me the power, the meaning, and the devastating beauty of all-consuming, enamoring love. And for that, all I can say is thank you because it gave me a story I will absolutely never forget.

Hallowed Ground is a book about a lot of things. It’s about war and sacrifice and life changing choices. It’s about growing up, evolving, and seeing where life can take you. It’s about friendship and family and the amazing experiences both of those things bring to your life. It’s about risks and rewards and everything life has to offer in between.

It’s also about love. What it can bring you, how it can upend your life something fierce, how it can leave you breathless a time or two, and in the end, how it can fulfill you on every single level possible, if you only allow yourself to have it.

So please, I am literally begging you as I write this…read this book, this entire series, and you’ll get all of that and more. When you reach the end I am promising that you’ll have had one of the most fulfilling reading experiences of your life. Trust me because I’m there right now, and it’s everything.

ExcerptI pushed my chair out and reached for her, lifting her tiny, curved frame into my lap. Her head tucked beneath my chin, and she curled into me, fitting right where she was always meant to be. My arms closed around her. “We have a month.”

“It’s not long enough.” Her fingers gripped my shirt like she could keep me here if she just held on tight enough. God, what I wouldn’t have given to stay with her.

“Forever isn’t long enough for us, December, but that’s what we’re going to have. You and I have never chosen the easy path. This is just another hurdle.” I rubbed my chin over her soft hair and tried to soak in every detail of holding her—the sweet way she smelled, the smooth texture of her skin beneath my hands.

She leaned back in my arms and cupped my face. “I can’t lose you.” Her voice broke, and tears pooled in her eyes.

I’d never hated myself more than I did in that moment. She’d made it through a nightmare no one should have to face, and I was about to ask her to chance that fire again. My breath hitched, barely passing the lump in my throat. “You won’t. It would take something a hell of a lot stronger than a war to keep me from you.”

I sealed that promise with a kiss, tasting her fear and desperation as she responded. She opened underneath me, and I fused my mouth to hers, surrendering to the heat between us to pull us through this moment. There was nothing hotter or sweeter in this world than kissing December, feeling her go soft and pliant.

We’d fought so fucking hard to get here, to be together. This wasn’t fair, and we both knew it. But we also both knew it didn’t matter. Fair wasn’t exactly in the U.S. Army vocabulary.

I retreated just enough to whisper against her lips, “I’ll come home. I swear it.”

My Review

*****5 Twilight & Charlie Stars*****

So let’s talk about how defenseless I was against falling in full on, all consuming love with Defenseless by Corinne Michaels. This book had me in full on love with its captivating story, its dynamic and distinctive characters (hello, it’s Mark and there’s absolutely no resisting him), and the level of feeling, and heat, and suspense I got from its pages had me loving everything I was reading.

If I’m being honest though, I didn’t put up a single bit of fight with falling in love with Defenseless, or with Mark, or with Charlie. I think I practically gave myself over to the two of them and their story from the moment I started it, and by the end I was completely sunk, in full on heartfelt adoration with the two of them. They charmed me, they wowed me, and they pulled at all of my feelings and emotions and every bit of my heart all the way through.

Defenseless gave me a story I had been not so patiently waiting for ever since I met Mark’s character in Beloved. That man took my heart in that book, and I knew his book was one that I needed in my life. Defenseless not only gave me him, it gave me a leading lady that was the perfect, and I mean perfect, match for one Mark Dixon. Charlie Erickson is a gem of a female character and she takes it from no one. Seeing her and Mark, falling hard under the spell of the both of them just like they were falling hard for each other, and experiencing what they did for one another was extraordinary and it had me loving them both all the more.

Suffice to say, Charlie and Mark completely won me over. From their banter that had me smiling and laughing from page to page, to the intense and fiery connection and chemistry they shared that had me blushing and melting again and again, to the level of feeling they poured into everything…Mark and Charlie did it for me. They gave me it all, they gave me themselves in the most honest, open, and raw ways, and in the end I loved them with all that I had.

Mark’s character was one that I was beyond ready to get my hands on, ever since I met him and fell under his charismatic spell, and his story in Defenseless didn’t disappoint. Not one little bit. I loved getting to be in his head, getting to be there as he met his match, and met that one person who changed it all for him. It was also quite wonderful to listen to the wonderful craziness that came out of that man’s mouth. He never failed to bring a smile to my face, a blush to my cheeks, and when he wasn’t doing that, he was completely melting my heart with what he said and felt for Charlie. That’s not to say that Mark doesn’t have his moments in this book, and there were certainly times I wanted to shake him silly because of what he was doing or saying, but through it all I loved him fiercely.

I loved how Mark wasn’t one to back down, how he kept fighting through it all no matter what was thrown his way, and in the end that had me loving him all the more because it showed the tenacity and fierceness of that man. In Defenseless I felt like I really got to know and understand the man underneath the charm, and that man was authentic and real and had me practically eating out of the palm of his hand. The man that melted my heart and filled it with who he was. Simply put, Mark Dixon is what book boyfriends are made of. He’s sweet and charming and he sends my heart a flutter, and I loved that.

Now Charlie Erickson was a force to be reckoned with in every single way. She is a no holds barred kind of girl, and I have to say I was kind of in awe of her character and the presence that she had. She was fierce and strong and a fighter to the T. She never stopped giving it her all, all the way through, and the more I read her character, the more I realized how phenomenal she was, how much she was fighting and how vital that fight was to her core, and how she was the perfect person for Mark. Corinne Michaels does an exceptional job of creating Charlie’s character. She lets you get to know her, just like Mark does, and the more you know her, the more you fall for her, the more your love her, and the more you want her to get to the exact place she needs to be.

Charlie is a bit mysterious, in the most alluring of ways, and the more you get of her, the more you will be unable to resist your love of her character. Charlie is strong and fierce, yet vulnerable and unsure at the same time. Seeing the many sides to her come to the page will have you loving her character even more. Being with her as she meets Mark and is thrown off kilter by him and the intense feelings she has for him, will show you so much about her, her wants and desires, and how far she is willing to go for the one thing she never knew she wanted or could have.

Mark and Charlie definitely have a chemistry that is off the charts. Their banter and smirk inducing conversations only add to the pull and connection they share, which creates such a consuming build in this book. That build continues to grow and ebb, until its inevitable explosion…and that explosion is nothing short of fireworks. It’s heated, and full of color and passion, and it will mesmerize you with everything it has. The push and pull between these two will pull at all of your emotions and feelings too, and through it all you will be rooting with all that you have that Mark and Charlie can figure out a way to make it all work.

One of my favorite aspects of Defenseless, besides Charlies and Mark’s literal amazingness, was how suspenseful, captivating, and enrapturing it was. This book is romantic suspense at its finest, and each chapter, each new page gave me a piece to the puzzle that I, Mark and Charlie were desperately trying to figure out. The level of suspense and intrigue had my heart racing, my mind going crazy trying to piece it all together, and in the end I was in awe of what I got from this story and what was revealed. That suspense is just one of the many aspects that pulled me in whole heartedly to what I was reading, and I loved every unforgettable word and feeling and experience that that gave me with Mark and Charlie.

Corinne Michaels is one of my favorite authors for a reason. Her fantastic writing not only allows me to fall in love with her characters right from the start, she lets me be there with them through it all. I hope with them, I fall with them, I hurt with them, and my heart squeezes and feels and goes through it all right along with them because of her writing, and that made this book and these characters even more real and amazing to experience. Corinne Michaels not only gave me Mark and Charlie, she gave me the supporting characters of this series that never fail to make me smile and realize again and again how much I love them all. Being back with them felt simply wonderful, and it had me loving them even more than I already did.

In Defenseless Corinne Michaels truly gave me it all with her outstanding writing and storytelling. She allowed me to fall under the exceptional and distinctive spell of Charlie and Mark that had me loving them both to pieces with each new word I read. She allowed me to fight with them, feel with them, and feel the immense and deeply felt feelings they shared as they went through everything the events of Defenseless threw their way. I couldn’t have asked for more from this book or these characters. They pushed themselves straight into my heart, took root, and I know they’re going to be there for a while because they’re that good, that unforgettable, and that everything.

“I made you a promise, Charlie.” Mark’s already deep voice is layered with desire.

Once again, my control begins to slip. “What’s that?”

His hands drop a little lower beside my head. His lower body shifts so his knee is between my legs. I feel his arousal against my thigh.

My traitorous body shows its own awakening. My nipples hardening through the silk material don’t go unnoticed. Heat pools in my core and my breath hitches. I want him. There’s no use denying it.

“I told you I’d kiss you again. If you don’t stop me now, there’s no getting away.”

I should stop him. I need to stop him. There’s no way in hell it’s going to happen, though. I’m craving his lips again.

He gives me one second before he crushes his mouth against mine. His entire body shifts forward, and now I’m trapped. There’s nowhere to go. Nowhere to move that’s not Mark. He takes every part of my mind and body. Our hands roam each other as his tongue slides against mine. Passion ignites between us; it sets the room on fire. His fingers cup my neck and then glide down the front of my dress. His hand brands my skin as he takes his time exploring the open skin between us.

My fingers grip the lapels of his tux, holding him, molding him to me. I can’t get close enough. Our mouths stay fused as we both lose control.

Then my mind snaps.

I push back and my hands fly to my lips. They’re swollen, bruised from the force of the kiss. His hands brace against the wall. I keep my eyes downcast. I can’t believe I just did that, against the damn wall, at a ball commemorating my father.

I shift my dress, rake my fingers through my hair, and pull myself together.

“Charlie . . .” Mark finally speaks. It sounds like shouting even though it’s only loud enough for us to hear.

“That was the last time that will ever happen,” I say with no tremor to my voice. “Tonight we become partners. It’s not about whatever this is.” I shift my hands between us. “It’s about finding the information we’re both searching for.”

“And what if we find something else?”

“We shut it down. There’s no room for feelings in this world.”

Mark pushes back, giving me space. I instantly feel cold. “Okay, then. Have it your way.”

This is what I wanted, what we both need, but suddenly I wish it wasn’t. I wish I could pull him close, kiss him, fuck him, and just feel.

But wishes are for little girls.

I was born a fighter. Abandoned by my parents, I spent my life forging my own path—one guided by my fists and paved with pain.

Untouchable in the ring, I destroyed everyone who faced me, but that’s where my victories ended. Outside the ropes, I repeatedly failed the few people who loved me. Including my best friend, Liv James—the one person I’d die to protect.

Even though I didn’t deserve her, Liv never stopped believing in me. Never gave up. Never let go. After all, she understood what I’d lost, because she’d lost it too.

Liv was everything to me, but she was never truly mine.

That was going to change.

I lost my first love, but I refused to lose my soulmate.

Now, I’m on the ropes during the toughest battles of my life.

Fighting to be the man she deserves.

Fighting the solitude of our pasts.

Fighting for her.

FIGHTING SOLITUDE TEASER 1

Excerpt

“Jesus Christ, Quarry! Calm down. You’re making it worse.” Till pointed toward the building where the woman I loved lay dead in a coffin.

Oh, God.

My eyes, tunneled by rage, flashed around the mob of reporters before landing on the front steps of the funeral home, where an even bigger crowd of Mia’s friends and family were watching me violently break down—again.

“I need to get out of here,” I mumbled, straightening my shirt.

“Good idea,” he replied, shoving me toward my car. “I’ll drive.”

“No. I want to be alone.”

“You can’t drive right now, Q.”

“Watch me.”

“You cannot be behind the wheel…” He carried on with some explanation, but I was more than done listening. The silence had never sounded so good.

Looking up at the sky, I sucked in a breath so deep that it caused my lungs to ache. I refused to release it though.

Don’t exhale.

Ignoring Till’s protests, I dug my keys from my pocket and folded into my car. Barely managing to squeeze around the relentless reporters, I started toward the exit.

This is not happening.

Don’t breathe.

My lungs were on fire, but it felt a hell of a lot better than what was going on in my heart, so I bit my lip and let it blaze—praying that it would eventually engulf me.

Glancing in my review mirror, I saw the cops rolling into the parking lot, but that wasn’t what made me stop. My breath left me on a rush as I slammed on the brakes the moment she came into view.

Liv was standing in the middle of the road, staring at my taillights.

Her big, brown eyes were as empty as I felt, and her face was painted with absolute anguish. Without out a single second of hesitation, I leaned over and pushed the passenger’s side door open in invitation. In a pair of heels and a short, black dress, she sprinted forward, not slowing until her ass hit my leather seat. Her door hadn’t even shut before I was off again.

After turning her cell phone off, she tossed it in the glove box. Mine quickly followed. She didn’t ask any questions as I pulled onto the highway in the exact opposite direction of both of our apartments. She didn’t want to go home any more than I did.

Our destination was unknown, and that alone made it infinitely better than the one we’d just left.

I drove.

And drove.

Then, when I was sick and tired of aimlessly driving, I drove some more.

With the exception of Liv flipping the radio on when the sun went down, we sat in absolute silence for over four hours.

Alone, yet still together.

Finally, around ten p.m., with an empty tank of gas and sleepy eyes, I slipped into a parking space in front of the apartment Liv and Mia shared. Liv didn’t delay in pushing the door open, but that’s the only effort she put into getting out.

Dropping her head against the headrest, she whispered at the windshield, “Her parents told me she left letters for us. We can pick them up whenever we’re ready.”

“I don’t want a fucking letter. She lied. She’s sorry. I got it. Nothing left to say.”

“Maybe it will explain stuff though. It might help.”

My angry gaze jumped to her, but she was still staring out the window.

“Will it bring her back?” I asked. “No? Then I don’t need a goddamn letter. Fuck that. Fuck her parents too. I don’t want shit from them.”

“They didn’t kill her, Quarry.”

“How can you say that?”

Her eyes finally met mine. “It was what Mia wanted. She signed the Do Not Resuscitate order, not them.”

“What the fuck are you doing here? Please, God, tell me you are not actually siding with them? Because, if I recall correctly, we both begged them not to give up on her. They didn’t give a shit about anyone. Liv, they didn’t even get a second opinion.”

“I’m not siding with anyone but Mia. She made a choice. We have to respect it.” Her expression was emotionless, even though her voice trembled.

“Respect it? Fuck her shitty choice. She should have respected me enough to let me have a say.”

She laughed without humor. “You never would have let her go, Q.”

I slammed the heel of my palm against the steering wheel. “You’re goddamn right I wouldn’t have!”

“She had brain cancer. It was going to happen one way or another. She knew it. And she made a decision. We don’t get to be mad about that.”

“Get the fuck out of my car.”

“No. Listen to me—”

“I’ll start listening the moment you stop spouting the bullshit her parents shoved down your throat tonight.”

She raised her voice for the first time all day. “It’s the truth!”

“It’s bullshit! All of it. How am I supposed to respect the fact that she lied to me for six months? Six fucking months that I could have used to prepare for this.”

“Oh my God, Quarry!” she yelled, exasperated. “Do you seriously think six months could have ever prepared you for this? I could have known since the day I met her and I still wouldn’t have been ready to lose her.”

“I could have tried! I could have spent that time devoted to being with her instead of traveling to fights. Jesus Christ, Liv, last weekend, I went out with the guys from the gym to play pool. The last fucking Saturday night of her life on this Earth and I was shooting pool with a bunch of assholes I can barely stand. Six months she kept the fact that she was dying a secret. Six. Fucking. Months. You’re right. I wouldn’t have been ready to let her go, but at least I could have figured out how to say goodbye. Instead, all I got was to squeeze her hand, say, ‘I love you,’ and then be escorted out of the hospital by security. Fuck!”

“That’s because you were acting like a fool and threatening her family! That was your choice!”

“Get the fuck out of my car. Now!”

“And it’s also the reason you got thrown out of the visitation tonight. Get your shit together or you won’t be allowed at the funeral tomorrow.”

“I don’t want to go to the funeral!” I shouted at the top of my lungs, making her flinch. “I don’t want there to be a funeral at all. Now, I’m serious. Get. The fuck. Out. Of my car.”

Through gritted teeth, she seethed, “You know what I’ll never understand? How you claim to be so in love with her, but in this entire conversation, I haven’t heard you say a single word that wasn’t about you. How this affects you. How this hurt you. Last time I checked, you aren’t the one being buried tomorrow.”

“I wish I were!”

“Fuck you! The world doesn’t revolve around Quarry Page!” With that, she jumped out and slammed the door.

I didn’t even wait for her to make it to the sidewalk before I was peeling out of the parking lot.

*****5 AMAZING COLTON & RYLEE STARS*****

It doesn’t really get much better than Colton and Rylee. Seriously. Those two are one of my all-time favorite book couples, and when I learned that K. Bromberg was going to be giving us one last full on glimpse into their story, I was thrilled. More than that, I was ready to see what she would have in store for those two. I was beyond curious to see what the events of this book would bring to Colton and Rylee, and though I did have some idea since the events of Aced take place between the two epilogues of Crashed, I was surprised and awed and just in love with everything I got from them in this book.

This book follows the after and the amazing, shocking, intense, and life altering things that can happen after that after. It shows how things can grow, how they can evolve and change, yet at the same time how they can be blissfully the same. It shows how the foundation of who you are as an individual and as a couple can see you through the highest and lowest of times, and how that foundation can become even stronger, even if it takes a few hard hits along the way. Aced is about marriage and healing and things coming your way that you never saw coming. It’s about speed bumps and what you do when you’re thrown off a course you never even thought you’d be on in the first place.

It’s about what happens after, the good and the bad, and how you handle it all. It’s about how the fight and fire that makes you who you are can see you through even the darkest of moments. Aced is about the utterly breathtaking moments life and love can bring you if you allow yourself to have it and if you’re willing to give yourself over to it.

Aced is about Colton and Rylee and the unforgettable love they share. It’s about the boys, it’s about healing, it’s about fight and overcoming the darkness that threatens to consume you. It’s about marriage and life and so much in between. Aced gives you everything that defines and makes The Driven Series so enrapturing and amazing to read, and it builds upon all of that in the best possible way. It gives you more from all of these characters in a way that makes sense and just fits.

I absolutely loved every word of this book and what it gave me of Colton and Rylee. It reaffirmed over and over again why this is one of my favorite series, and why they are such a dynamic and distinctive couple. It showed the most authentic, vulnerable, and real sides to their characters. It gave me them at some of their happiest moments, and some of their lowest, and in between I got every single well crafted bit of them. I was literally in awe of what I got from Colton and Rylee in Aced. I couldn’t get enough, and in the end I just wanted more because I loved every single thing I was getting from them.

There were so many moments in this book that melted me, that shocked me, that had my heart reeling and hurting and practically bursting because of what came Colton and Rylee’s way. There were moments that brought tears to my eyes from both blissful happiness and utter pain. So many moments in this book had me swooning and blushing and smiling like crazy because of what comes Colton and Rylee’s way. So many moments in this book exemplified who their characters really were, and had me mesmerized not only by what they go through, but how they handle it all.

Now you’ve probably caught on by this point that I am not going to tell you what happens in this outstanding book, at least not specifically. I’m not going to do that because you just need to go into this book and experience it for yourself. You need to jump back in heart first, into the thick of it all, and let the events and feelings and utterly breathtaking and intense and all-feeling moments of this book consume you. And I am telling you now…this book will consume you. It will take your heart and your minds and your feelings as you go along with Rylee and Colton as they face the events of this book.

I will say that things are not the easiest for Rylee and Colton in Aced. They face some tough challenges that neither of them saw coming. They both go on another evolution, not only as a couple, but as individuals as well. They have a bit of a fight in front of them in Aced, but what really makes this book so outstanding is seeing all that those two do to make it right, to fight through the pain and jump over the hurdles, and how through it all they are there for one another 100%. Seeing the lengths to which those two would go for one another, for others, and even for themselves in order to heal and get past it all to a good and happy place was everything.

Seeing that fight, that vulnerability, that openness and honesty at times in them exemplified so much about them and showed that they were in it to win it, and by winning it, I mean holding onto each other and their love with everything that they have.

K. Bromberg’s writing is one of my favorite author’s for a reason. She never fails to deliver a thoughtfully crafted story with so much varied and perfectly captured emotion. She creates such distinctive worlds and characters that win you over completely. Her writing put me in this story. I lived its events with Colton and Rylee, and felt every ounce of what it would be like to go through it all with them. She allowed me to be there, to live it, to breathe it, and to get it. She tackled some very real issues that happen in marriage and happen in that after we all so crave, and she did it in a way that did those issues and topics justice. She showed the power of love and conviction and healing, and the beautiful things that can happen when you have all three.

Her writing brought this series to life once again, and she let me jump into both Colton and Rylee’s wonderful and distinctive heads again in the most fantastic way. She let me fall in love with them both all over again, and I loved being with them and feeling so connected to them as they reached some major milestones in their lives. Aced brought them both to places they never thought they’d be, and I can’t say enough how much I loved being there with them through every single second of it.

Like any book by K. Bromberg, Aced gives you the perfect level of romance, passion, emotions and feels, with the best level of pull and suspense that has you epically captivated into what you’re reading. She gives you it all in Aced, and with her writing you get to experience it firsthand. Your heart will be so invested in everything that you’re reading with Colton and Rylee and the amazing supporting characters in their world. Reading this book felt like coming home in a way. Its pages welcomed me with open arms, and I loved every single moment I got between its pages. It was wonderful and intense and consuming to say the least, and in the end I knew I had just read one of my top reads for this year. You will read this book, it will give you so much and make you feel so much, and in the end you will be thrilled you got to experience it all.

Aced was a perfect addition to this series, bringing out the nuances and the many aspects that make Colton, Rylee, their story, and their world so unforgettable. This book pushes both of these characters, and it puts them through the wringer a bit, but it is all beyond worth it because of what it shows them, how it pushes them to fight and change and give it their all, and what it gives you as you experience it all first hand.

Colton and Rylee Donovan have one of the most all-feeling, mesmerizing, and intense love stories I have ever read. Their love is heated and passionate and real and immense, and it will fill your heart completely in this book. The events they face together as a couple in Aced will have you loving and rooting for them even more, and in the end you’ll be in love with everything you got from them in the phenomenal pages of this book. It truly doesn’t get better than this book.

Like I said, Aced follows what happens after. It’s real and it’s messy and it’s not always easy, but it is so very worth it and so very full of love and feeling and everything that makes love worth fighting for with everything you’ve got. The after you get in Aced is best after out there, and it will amaze you to say the least.

So get to reading and loving that after. Let the after in Aced give you everything it has. It would be wrong not to, because afters like the one you get in Aced are not to be missed. Ever.

Top Reads of 2015!

2015 has officially come to an end! Whoop, whoop!

Well technically it came to an end over 2 weeks ago, but let’s just disregard the fact that I’m a tad behind with this post. Okay? Okay.

It’s a New Year, which means endless possibilities and new chances, and of course lots of new books! giphy

*Insert lots of cheering and celebrating here*

But before we dive into all the fun that 2016 has to offer, I want to share with you some of my favorite books from this year.

2015 was a great reading year for me. I read a total of 221 books this year (at least that’s what my Goodreads tells me I read this year, haha!). I also had the chance to go to some amazing book signings and meets some fabulous authors. I celebrated my Summer of Series  and read my days away, and I have to say that I loved so many of the books I got to read this year.

I fell so hard for so many characters, and was swept away again and again by their unforgettable stories. Many of the books I read were by some of my all-time favorite authors who continue to blow me away on a daily basis, others I read came out of left field and stole my heart completely with everything they had. I even had the chance to fall under the spell of some well loved favorites that have been recommended to me for years. Some of these books made me laugh, a good number of them made me cry, and all of them will stick with me in some way, shape, or form forever.

All in all, 2015 was a good year for me & books, and I want to share with you my favorite ones. Some of these books are standalones, and some are series. Often I couldn’t pick just one favorite book from a series, so I included them all. (That’s my logic, and I’m sticking with it.) Be sure to check them all out! And if you’re looking for more books to fall in love with, head over to my Goodreads page to check out more of what I read in 2015, because I read so many fantastic books this year!! (Way more than I could ever include on one list!)

All of the books below, are memorable, phenomenal, and downright AMAZING to say the least. I could use just about every positive adjective in the book to describe them, and I still wouldn’t come close to capturing what it was like to read them. So please, I beg of you, check them out, read them, and let them amaze. Let them blow you away with all that they’ve got. Trust me. They’re worth it.

Top Reads 2015

**All books selected were read by myself in 2015. Scroll below to read and find out more about them all (they aren’t listed in any kind of order), and as always, thank you for visiting The Never Ending Book Basket.**

~The Sweet Addiction Series: Sweet Addiction, Sweet Possession, & Sweet Obsession by J. Daniels~

Amazon    B&N     KOBO

“Jesus Christ. It is way too early to talk about dick sizes and which way they curve.”. . .”But for the record, he’s massive and as straight as you pretended to be in high school.” ~Sweet Addiction

“I beg him because he likes it and because it’s true. I do need him; I’ll always need him. How I ever managed to convince myself otherwise is beyond me. I was a complete fool for ever denying my feelings for him.” ~Sweet Possession

“I want him to want me so badly he can’t remember anyone before. I want him to distract me so I’m not completely terrified of what this is or what it’s becoming. I don’t want to think. I just want to feel. His hands. His mouth. The wild pace of his heart.” ~Sweet Obsession

The Sweet Addiction Series by J. Daniels is AMAZING. What starts as a wedding hookup leads to so much more for Reese and Dylan in Sweet Addiction and Sweet Possession. These books are full of fun and heat and so many laugh out loud moments that will send your heart a flutter and melting again and again. They are some of my all-time favorites now, and I can’t get enough of them!! (Especially Joey. That man is my spirit animal.) Sweet Obsession continues the series with one Brooke Wicks and her Aussie obsession Mason King as they explore the intense and consuming connection they share. She’s just looking for a good time, he’s looking for that something more, and what happens when these two are together is nothing short of explosive, hysterical, and meltworthy.

~The Wake Series: Sail & Anchor by M. Mabie~

Amazon    B&N     KOBO

“The best things are worth waiting a little for, honeybee. Otherwise, fairy tales would start with happily ever after.” ~Sail

“Because sometimes things happen that are so far past fantastic you have to do them again simply to see if they’re as spectacular the second time. Those precious moments are almost as good as the next, when you learn sometimes the second-time moments are more.” ~Anchor

Blake and Casey are two of my favorite literary couples EVER. I could go on and on about how much I LOVE those two with my entire heart, and I still wouldn’t come close to capturing my love for them. I could also go on and on about how many times those two made me cry, or want to scream, or want to jump up and down with utter joy and happiness and frustration (sometimes all at once, haha!) I will NEVER forget their story. The events of Sail and Anchor complete their story and show how that Bait of a connection Sails them straight into something they both never knew they wanted and needed, and finds them Anchored in the exact place they needed to be all along. It wasn’t always easy for the two of them, but it was so fucking worth it. Blake and Casey’s story will blow you away, and pull at all of your emotions a million times over, and that was everything!!

~The On the Ropes Series: Fighting Silence & Fighting Shadows by Aly Martinez~

Amazon    B&N     KOBO

“You see, meeting the love of my life at age thirteen was never part of my plan. However, neither was gradually going deaf at the age of twenty-one. They both happened anyway. Now, I’m on the ropes during the toughest battles of my life. Fighting for my career. Fighting the impending silence. Fighting for her.” ~Fighting Silence

“When I was nineteen years old, I fell in love with a girl who changed my life by showing me that even the darkest nights still had stars and it didn’t matter one bit that you had to lie in the weeds to see them.”  ~Fighting Shadows

The Page Brothers…..be still my rapidly beating heart. Those boys own me each and every time I read one of their books, and this series is made its way to being one of my all-time favorites this year. They are all distinctive in their own wonderful ways, but they’re all fierce and strong and determined as hell. Their books follow Till, Flint, and Quarry (his book actually releases in just over a month, and it is AMAZING!) as they fight to get to the exact places they want to be, and do their damndest to escape the shitty card they’ve each been dealt. The journeys they go on to get there will have your heart breaking and racing and healing all at once in a way that is extraordinary to experience. I couldn’t resist the pull, the emotions, and the all-feeling fight from the Page brothers. I will never forget what it was like to be inside that ring with them, or outside of it living and fighting and giving it my all right along with them.

~The Flight & Glory Series: Full Measures, Eyes Turned Skyward, & Beyond What is Given by Rebecca Yarros~

Amazon    B&N     KOBO

“The fire you have within you is impossible to kill. The first breath you take when you’re free of all this, it will come roaring back. That’s what is so impossibly beautiful about you.”   ~Full Measures

“I’ve seen love burn someone to the ground, and I’ve seen it make sense of the ridiculous. I won’t settle for less than that kind of fire.”   ~Eyes Turned Skyward

“This is not a temporary thing between us. There is no deadline. I. Am. Always. Yours.”
He kissed me softly, his tongue tracing my lower lip. “So go ahead and fall. I’ve gotten really good at catching you.”   ~Beyond What Is Given

The Flight & Glory Series was a series I had meant to start reading months ago, and I could kick myself for waiting so long to read these books because they were phenomenal. They had the perfect level of emotion, angst, intensity, pull, along with some unforgettable characters who completely stole my heart. Each of these books follows a different couple, and while they might technically be standalones, I personally think you MUST read all of them because they are all that fantastic and it makes the effect of them all the more immense when they’re read in order. I am a huge military romance lover and these books delivered in every single way. The emotions and how much you feel each of these unique and unforgettable stories will leave you in awe! I read them all in less than 3 days because I could not stop reading. I HAD to know what would happen next!! Rebecca Yarros’s writing is breathtakingly beautiful and captures every ounce of these books. You truly feel and live every word of this series!!

~Kissing Madeline by Lex Martin~

Amazon    B&N

20632298

“I hate you”, she says under her breath.
“It’ll pass. Then you’ll love me, I promise.”
She turns and glares.” You shouldn’t make promises you can’t keep.”
I grin and motion toward her.” You need to be careful. I always keep my promises.” ~Kissing Madeline

The Dearest Series by Lex Martin is fun, engaging, and has an effervescent spark lighting off of every page. Dearest Clementine and Finding Dandelion were two of my top reads last year, so it was no surprise that Kissing Madeline made my list this year. I’m also pretty sure that this book is my favorite of the series! I had been waiting for their story ever since I finished Finding Dandelion last year, and their story did not disappoint one bit. Daren and Maddie’s story was full of so must heat, so many swoonworthy moments, and their connection was out of this world fierce. I was so beyond invested in their story together, and the level of what those two feel for one another will have you rooting with everything you have for them. Kissing Madeline has the best balance of heat, meaning, and an all-feeling love story that I will never stop loving or forget.

~The Paper Swan by Leylah Attar~

“I want to remember this,” he said, pulling me into his arms. “If I die tonight, I want to die remembering what it was like to hold the whole world in my hands.”   ~The Paper Swan

The Paper Swan is one of the most beautiful, well crafted, and eloquently written books I have ever read. It gave me a story that consumed me mind, body, and soul, and I am still thinking about this story weeks later. This was another book I meant to read months ago, and I can’t tell you enough how much it left me in awe of its magnificence. Leylah Attar weaves together a story that spans decades and continents, a story that has you on the edge of your seat the entire time and has your heart completely in the story itself with the characters experiencing every twist and turn. The story that Leylah Attar gave me in The Paper Swan is one that I know I will never forget because reading this book is an experience unto itself. This book is breathtakingly emotional, intense and consuming to say the least, and it will literally leave you in awe with the story, emotions, and unforgettable moments it gives you.

~Hard Love by Meredith Wild~

Amazon    B&N     KOBO

Wild_Hard Love_TP

“Ours was a hard love. We’d fallen hard into it, and we’d fought hard to keep it. Out kind of love didn’t ask nicely. It took. It ravaged. It consumed the heart whole and asked questions later. The rewards were soul-deep and all-consuming, sweeping through like a wildfire.” ~Hard Love

Hard Love was the perfect, and I mean PERFECT, conclusion to Meredith Wild’s Hacker Series. Hard Love brought Blake and Erica’s consuming, hard fought, and amazing love story to a close in a way that did their story justice and had me realizing over and over again why this is one of my favorite series. Hard Love takes you on one last intense and wholly enrapturing ride with Blake and Erica as they face one last fight together. Their story in Hard Love is completely fitting and exemplifies everything that this series stands for: the utterly breathtaking, unforgettable, and all-feeling things that love can bring you if you give your self into it all and allow yourself to have it. I can’t say enough good things about this conclusion and what it gave their dynamic characters. As sad as I am to say goodbye to Blake and Erica, their story in the entire series, and especially in Hard Love, is one that completely stole my heart from beginning to end, and I know that will stick with me far past the end.

“You only get one chance at this circus called life. Don’t sit in the crowd watchin’ it happen. You jump right in and be the ringleader. That’s where you find your fire.”   ~Gus

A year ago I read a book that changed my life. That book was Bright Side by Kim Holden. Bright Side is a book that will stay with me in my heart, in my mind, and in my soul for the rest of time. Exactly a year later I read Gus, the follow up to Bright Side, and I have no doubt that this book will be joining Bright Side in my heart, and in my soul, and definitely in my mind. Gus is a story about a lot of things. It’s about love and healing and hurt and pain. It’s about what happens when your life is thrown upside down, and you lose the person who was your reason for being. It’s about finding yourself and fixing yourself as you try to put yourself back together again. Gus is also about love. The power of love, how love can heal you, and the unforgettable, all-feeling, and truly wonderful places love can take you if you open yourself up to you. Gus is about moving on, but never forgetting, and I know that I will never forget this book and the beauty and meaning within it. It was perfection, and I am telling you, YOU NEED TO READ THIS BOOK!

“…there is only one way to be loved, truly loved, and that’s unconditionally…you are under my skin, in every breath that I take and permanently branded on my heart…I want to be bear you. I burn for you…” ~Unforgettable Sun

Unforgettable Sun is the conclusion to The Hale Brother’s Series by Kathryn Andrews. This book gives you Matt’s story, and I am telling you that this series, and especially this book, is not to be missed. What you get from Matt and Elle in this book is breathtakingly emotional and will squeeze your heart more times than you can count while reading. This book gives you all the answers you’ve been searching for, while giving you a love story that is full of feeling, full of meaning, and full of a hope at healing from the darkness of the past if you only follow the sun. Matt’s story is probably my favorite from this series (though don’t tell Beau & Drew that because I LOVE them too!!). It was phenomenal to finally get into his head after wondering so much about him and what he went through, and though his story broke my heart more times than I could count while reading, I LOVED every all-feeling word of it because it truly gave me everything!

~Confess

It really doesn’t get much better than a book by Colleen Hoover, and Confess is a perfect example of that. This book was beautiful, meaningful, and full of shocking moments from the very first moment to the very last. I can’t tell you enough how utterly mesmerizing Confess is to read. Reading this book will probably make you cry, it’ll definitely make you feel, and somewhere in there while reading it you’ll realize how epic and unforgettable of a love story you are experiencing. Auburn and Owen’s story is full of some big OMG moments, and what those two go through will have you wanting to reach in and make it all better for them both. They both have secrets, both have things from their past they’d rather not remember, and they’re both still currently reeling from those pasts…but when these two come together in this book it is everything and you will be blown away by the colors they paint.

“We have history. That has weight. It has meaning. And you of all people know that just because something is in the past doesn’t mean it’s dead and buried.”  ~Forked

“Sexually, I wanted him six days to Sunday. Sixty-nine days to Sunday, in fact, and I wasn’t even a sixty-nine kind of girl. Confession: I was, of course I was. I’d just never acted like it in real life. But I’d do it with Charlie. In a heartbeat. And were there other numbers? I’d do those too.” ~Floored

The Frenched Series is one of the most engaging, fun, and sparkling series that I have had the pleasure of reading! These books had the best amount of everything to make a well-rounded series full of so much life, vibrancy, and heat that is sure to bring a certain kind of blush to your cheeks in the best possible way. This series follows a group of girlfriends as they each take a chance on love, and the crazy, unpredictable, and downright amazing things that can happen if they give it all a chance. From Frenched with Lucas *major sigh* and Mia, to Forked with Nick and Coco, and onto Floored with Charlie and Erin, this series gives you 3 phenomenal stories that will have you laughing out loud more times than you can count, will have you practically panting and needing a fan too, and will give you 3 unforgettable stories of friendship, love, and spark, and the life changing things that can happen when you have all 3!! “When you want to make an impression and you think you’ve gone far enough, go a little further. Always leave them wondering if you’re just a little bit crazy, and people will never fuck with you again.” ~Corrupt

Corrupt was the first book I had ever read by Penelope Douglas, and to say that it owned me, that it consumed my heart and my mind for hours and hours, and that it wowed me with everything that it had is putting it too mildly. Every dark and twisty page of this book left me blown away by what I was reading. Corrupt gives you the perfect level of suspense, darkness, intrigue and mystery with a healthy dose of intense build and passion and searing heat too. This book shocked me, it awed me, and it had me blushing more times than I could count and I was mesmerized by every word of it. This book definitely pushed me a bit as a reader, but I loved every second of it, and the story I read in Corrupt is one that I know I will never forget because of how corrupting and fantastic and utterly mind blowing it was.

“My name is Samuel Nathan Rivers. I’m twenty-seven. Aquarius. No criminal history. I have a clean bill of health. I’m a democrat, but for God’s sake, do not tell my mom. I own a furniture shop and clear six figures a year. I’m not interested in your money. I’ll show you my tax return if need be. I’m also not a super-fan interested in your fame. But, for the love of all that’s holy, I need you to come home with me.”   ~The Fall Up

Oh The Fall Up….Oh Sam, Oh Levee, Oh how much I LOVED this all-feeling, emotional, and breathtaking book. It’s not secret that Aly Martinez is one of my favorite authors (you’ll see a couple of her other books in this post too) and this book completely blew me away. It’s a bit different than her other books, but it’s just as amazing and mesmerizing and emotional. This book made me cry and feel and live everything Sam and Levee did. Boy did I cry and feel and live this book, and I can’t say enough how much Aly Martinez allowed me to be in this book with these characters. I fought with them, I struggled with them, and in the end I fell hard and fast for them because I could not resist the dynamic and distinctive spell of Sam and Levee. The Fall Up Explores what happens when you reach rock bottom and you’re not sure which way is up, and how meeting the right person, the perfect person, can change it all, can heal you, and can send you falling up to the exact place you need to be. PLEASE. I BEG OF YOU. Read The Fall Up this instant because Sam and Levee and their emotional all-feeling story is not to be missed!!!

“All I ever wanted was to be somebody. Somebody to someone and somebody to myself. Ten years later with the brush of her hair across my arm, and the flash of blue under the lights of the bar, I knew, just like that…I’d finally been found.” ~Blue Horizons

Kathryn Andrews never fails to deliver a story and a set of characters that I am emotionally invested in from the first word until well beyond the very last. Blue Horizons tells the story of Ash and Ava, two people who are searching. They’re searching for that something more, they’re searching for that meaning, and they’re searching for that peace, that calm, that something that will make them feel complete. What they both don’t expect is the immense pull they share with one another, and the events and feelings that unfold between them after a chance encounter in a bar. Blue Horizons gives you a story full of feels, full of many moments that will squeeze your heart again and again, and two characters who help each other find exactly what they’ve been missing. Kathryn Andrew’s phenomenal writing brings it all to life in the most authentic and all-feeling way, and in the end you will be in awe of what you’ve gotten from Ash and Ava and their emotional journey. This is a book you need in your life, and one that will have you feeling it all with Ash and Ava as they give it all a chance together.

~The Alabama Summer Series: Where I Belong, All I Want, What I Need, & Where We Belong by J. Daniels~

“I know what being around you does to me.” I grab her hand and place it against my chest, my other hand reclaiming its spot on her hip. Her eyes dart from my face to where her hand is and I see her eyes react to the effect she has on me. “Do you feel that? That’s what you do to me. Every fucking time I’m near you.” I can hear her heavy breathing while her eyes stay glued to her hand. I don’t say anything else. I just let her feel it. You own this part of me. Take it.” ~Where I Belong

“I don’t feel anything when I’m with them. I don’t even see them. I see you. I taste you. And when they ask me who Tessa is, because that’s the only name I’m saying in their ear, you wanna know what I tell them?” She sniffs loudly and her lip trembles, but she doesn’t answer. And I don’t wait for her to, either. I lean closer, brushing my nose against her cheek and up to her temple. “I tell them she’s the worst fucking thing that ever happened to me, and I can’t let her go.” ~All I Want

“I want this,” he says moving his finger along my cheek, tucking some of my hair behind my ear. “Whatever this is between us, I want it. I can’t stop thinking about you. I haven’t been with anyone else since you kissed me that first time. I don’t want to be.” I smile, leaning into his head as it caresses my face. “I want this too. So much.”  ~When I Fall

“Nothing is wrong with you, Angel. I’m the same way.” I thrust my hips a little and she gasps. Her head rolls to the side. “I ache for you. Want you so bad I can’t fucking breathe” “Will it always be like this?” Like this-wild and vital. More than necessity to me. I grab her face and kiss her hard, sucking a little on her tongue. “What do you think?” She nods, whimpering a quiet “yes” into my mouth, then leaning back to gaze at me and tugging the ends of my hair. “I ache for you too.” ~Where We Belong

The Alabama Summer Series by J. Daniels is one of my all-time favorites, and these books are all guaranteed to bring a smile to your face, a flutter to your heart, and a certain kind of blush to your cheeks if you know what I’m saying. I obviously love J. Daniel’s stories, characters, and writing to pieces, and I will one click the shit out of anything this woman writes because all of her stories have the perfect balance of fun, heat, emotions and feels. Each and every book in The Alabama Summer Series made me fall even harder for the characters of this series. It truly doesn’t get much better then Ben and Mia, or Luke and Tessa, or Reed and Beth… and don’t even get me started on how much I want and need the next book in this series in my life. (CJ & Riley… YOU. ARE. MINE.) These book are exceptionally paced, phenomenally written, and they truly hit the spot in every way, shape, and form. They allow me to laugh and feel and feel the effervescent spark they all have, and they deliver it all in one wonderful, seriously charming southern package that is not to be missed!

~The Changing Colors Series by N.A. Alcorn~

“I want you Little Wing…” She starts to interrupt, but I press two fingers over her lips, stopping her. “I’ve never lied to you, nor have I ever lied to any woman, just to get a leg over. I’m honest to a fault. And I’m telling you right now that this isn’t some ploy to get in your knickers. This is me, telling you, that I want you. Since the moment I met you, I’ve been distracted by thoughts of you. I don’t know where all this is coming from, but I know you’re feeling it too.” ~Forget

“Because you needed to be reminded. You need to remember what makes us so right. The minute I saw you sitting on that train, I thought you were every fantasy I’d ever had come to reality. I couldn’t take my eyes off you. Your long hair, full lips…” He pauses, thumb reaching up and brushing across my bottom lip. “And eyes that I swear could see right through me. you were so fucking beautiful, Brooke. You’re still the most beautiful thing I’ve ever laid eyes on.” ~Blur

Forget and Blur by N.A. Alcorn are two of the most emotional, musical laced, and vibrant reads I have EVER read. These books blew me away. Literally. When I read them, I couldn’t stop reading or feeling or breathing or taking in all of the literal magnificence they were giving me. There was an almost palpable magic to them, a liveliness and pull that got stronger and fiercer the more I read. I was completely in love with Brooke and Dylan’s story from the instant I started it. Their story was full of emotional ups and downs, the most amazing meaning and feeling, and I can’t even begin to describe and capture the draw and power of what those two share with one another. This duet follows the two of them as they take a chance and give into those powerful feelings, only to have things go the exact opposite way from what they both wanted. Forget and Blur is about what happens when you come face to face and heart to heart with the exact thing you need, the exact thing you never knew was coming your way, the exact thing you’re missing, and what happens when all of that power and deeply felt feeling hits you. Square in the heart, and in your mind, and your soul. The music and love and effervescent spark and feeling and emotion in this duet will have you falling hard and fast. Trust me. These books are AMAZING!

Live Me ebook

“Just be sure when this happens, you’re ready because you’ll be mine from that moment forward. I don’t intend on letting you go-ever.” He slid one finger under my chin and lifted my tear stained gaze to his. “Be with me, Angel. Be mine. Be my forever.” My insides shook violently. My whole body went numb, both unfeeling and feeling everything at the same time. All I had to do was say yes. Three little words. One word. Yes.” ~Live Me

Live Me is a book that pulled at every single emotion and feeling that I had. This book hurt my heart, tried to heal it again and again, and in the end I was simultaneously blown away by what it allowed me to experience and feel, while feeling like I was still shattered a bit because of what I read. I often gravitate towards books that will give me some serious emotional moments, but I was not prepared for how breathtakingly emotional and heart squeezing Live Me would be. I was also not prepared for all the meltworthy and swoon inducing moments courtesy of Blake and Eva. This book is the start to their story, and I couldn’t be more in love with both of their characters if I tried. Blake’s fierce determination and Eva’s strength to fight through the darkness of her past, made them a couple I was rooting for from the very first time they were together. This book made me cry and laugh and feel and take it all in right along with them. I couldn’t believe this was Celeste Grande’s book…her writing was so fluid, so all-feeling, and so extraordinary, and she truly gave me a story and characters that found their way into the deepest parts of my heart. This book is EVERYTHING, and you will feel every word of it. I can’t wait for the continuation for Blake & Eva’s story. I NEED it. Like yesterday.

“Is it weird to pray during sex? Maybe it is, but sometimes it happens. I’ve tried to accept that it’s who I am—a man who loves God, and who loves fucking, that I can be dirty and holy all in the same moment.” ~Midnight Mass

If you’re looking for book that will push your boundaries a bit, that will have you blushing and turning pink the more and more you read, and that will give you an unforgettable story, then Priest and its follow up Midnight Mass are for you! Now being a born and raised Catholic, I was definitely pulled into the premise of this book and how Sierra Simone would deliver a story on such a forbidden and taboo topic. What she gave me in Priest and Midnight Mass was one of the most eloquently written, beautifully emotional, and thought provoking books I have EVER read. She definitely pushed my boundaries a bit in these books, and I LOVED that. This book made me think and wonder and feel. It gave me Tyler and Poppy and their extraordinary pull and connection as they tried to figure out what they were going to do with all they felt. These books cover a wide range of topics from love to religion, to darkness and light, to pasts and healing, and in between you get a love story that is not to be missed. These books were so phenomenally written, and Sierra Simone delivers on every level with all that Poppy and Tyler give you.

“I think that when enough time has passed, when you’ve survived that which you didn’t imagine you could, there’s a dignity in that. Something you can own. A pride in knowing the pain made you stronger. The pain made you fight to succeed. Someday, when I’m living my dreams, I’m going to think of all the things that broke my heart and I’m going to be thankful for them.” ~Kyland

Mia Sheridan never fails to write a book full of distinctive characters, stories that pull at your heart and your mind in more ways than one, and an exceptional level of feeling and emotion that will stay with you well beyond when you reach the end. Kyland gave me everything I’ve come to love and expect from her books, and the story she gave me within its magnificent pages is one that was beautiful, full of meaning, and showed the true tenacity, fight, and determination of her characters. Tenleigh and Kyland’s story in this book pulled at all of my feelings and emotions, and I was rooting for those two in the start. Kyland tells their story of fight, of struggle. Their story of what it’s like to want something so badly, to crave it so much you can practically taste it, and the life changing things that happen when you meet someone who changes everything. A poignant story that struck so many chords, Kyland tells a story of what it’s like to struggle, what it’s like to give something and someone your all, and how even when things don’t go the way you wish they could, you can still experience the most amazing and heartfelt moments that will change your life in ways you never thought possible.

“Once again that mixture of fear and desire surges through my veins, the same kind of fire I imagine injected heroin must feel like—an agony so sweet you’d do anything for it.”   ~Asking For It

“We are bound together and yet parted. Two halves that can’t be glued into a whole. Maybe that’s how it is when you find someone whose wounds are the same as your own.” ~Begging For It

Asking For It and Begging For It are two of the most provocative, outstandingly written, thought provoking, and intense books that I have ever read. The story that Lilah Pace gave me within their pages pushed my mind, my thoughts, my heart, and my soul. She thoughtfully crafted a consuming story that will literally blow you away with everything it has. These books tackle a very thought provoking topic and a fantasy that is sure to make you think and feel and wonder. In these books Lilah Pace explores what happens when two people who share the same fantasy of force, come together both literally and figuratively, physically and emotionally, and how they fare the tumultuous, intense, and consuming waters that surround their shared desire and fantasy. Vivienne and Jonah’s story is one of the most exceptionally written and conveyed ones that I’ve read. They’re full of heat and desire and moments that will have you searching for the nearest fan, but they’re also about so much more. They’re about discovering things about yourself and your wants, they’re about finding someone who gets you, who understands your innate needs, and who is willing to do whatever it takes for you. These books are about the unforgettable moments and experiences the right person can give you, if you open yourself up to them.

Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000039_00005]

“No, let me finish. There isn’t beauty in perfection. It’s as fake as the image the word projects. Beauty is found in imperfection, Willow, because to admit you’re not perfect means you’re admitting you’re not whole and absolute. When I think of myself, I see someone willing to admit he’s as far from complete as it gets because, in order to get to that perfection, I need to find the other part of me who will make my life better. To take all the faults I have and fill them, and only then will I be there. You see, the way I see it, the only way to become perfect is to find that perfectly imperfect person who brings it out of you.”   ~Perfectly Imperfect

It’s no secret that Harper Sloan is one of my favorite authors. She always gives me a story that fulfills me on many levels, and after reading Perfectly Imperfect, I’m pretty sure she gave me a story that is not only my favorite of hers, but is a book that will stay with me in some way, shape, or form. This book blended the most amazing and relatable message with a love story that gave me all the feels and emotions I wanted and craved. Harper Sloan wrote a book that I got completely. I understood Willow. I LOVED Willow. I am Willow. Perfectly Imperfect tells the story of one girls fight and journey as she comes to accept and love herself, all her imperfections, and the amazing person she is. This book also tells the story of what happens when the right person finds that amazing girl, and shows her again and again how out of this world she is. Perfectly Imperfect gave me it all, and the messages that were bursting so beautifully and meaningfully from its pages are not to be missed!

“Funny how one woman can make everything around you look so different isn’t it?” Cowboy rubbed at the back of his neck and grinned. “Like getting lost in my own backyard.” ~Playing With Fire

Rules of Protection was one of my top reads last year, so it was no surprise to me that its follow up, Playing With Fire, made my top reads list for this year. With the perfect amount of Texas charm, laugh out loud humor, and so many moments that are guaranteed to melt your heart…and other things, Playing With Fire delivered in every way. This book had the best balance of meaning, humor and charm, and it gave me yet another chance to be with the fantastic characters that make this series what it is. Reading this book felt like coming home in a way, and I felt wrapped up in everything this book and its characters had to offer right from the start. Anna and Cowboy’s story is definitely interesting to say the least, and you will be laughing, and feeling, and basking in everything they give you as it all unfolds. These two seemingly opposites attract in the fiercest of ways, and their story is not to be missed. I am already looking forward to more fun and crazy shenanigans with these characters, and that is all because of what Alison Bliss created in this book!

“Whoever said love is like war, easy to begin but hard to end, knew exactly what he was talking about.” ~Hard Beat

I love me a book by K. Bromberg something fierce. She has created some of my all-time favorite stories and characters (Colton and Rylee, anyone?!) and I was beyond ready to jump into Hard Beat when it released. What I was not expecting was this book to become my favorite book of hers. I have LOVED all of her books, and I always will, but Hard Beat was AMAZING in its own unique and distinctive way. Hard Beat gave me a story that was definitely a bit different than the other books that I’ve read by this author, but I think that’s what made me love it so much. Tanner and Beaux’s story had all the emotions, connection, and pull that I’ve come to expect and love from K. Bromberg’s writing and stories, but it gave me a story that blew me away with everything it had. Maybe it was because of the level of mystery weaving its way through the book, maybe it was because this book takes place in a whole different world, or maybe its because of Tanner and Beaux and the characters they are, but simply put, this book was outstanding in every way. Hard Beat was enrapturing and all-feeling and intense to say the least, and I could not have asked for anything more from what Beaux and Tanner so outstandingly gave me within its pages!

~The Found Duet: Find Me & Free Me by Laureling Paige~

“Usually he made me feel wanted. Right now, I didn’t feel that in the least. But what I did feel-the reason I followed him despite the tension radiating off his body-was needed. He needed me. Maybe only for tonight, maybe only for this hour. But I knew that sure as I knew anything.” ~Free Me

“Gwen,” he said, and every part of me melted at that word. “I was lost when you met me. And then you found me. You have been the only thing besides revenge that has kept me alive. And really? Living for revenge isn’t any sort of life at all.” Cry. That’s what the urge was. My throat was thick and my eyes glossy. I’d thought there was no possible way I could be important in his world after Corinne, and  here he was telling me that I was wrong. His lips crept into the hint of a smile. “Did I ruin it?” “Not even a little bit.” My voice sounded tight, but actually I felt more open than I had in a long time. The hint turned into a full grin. “Also, you have the nicest tits and pussy I’ve every seen.” “Dammit. Now you ruined it.” “I totally did, didn’t I?” ~Find Me

Laureling Paige is one of my favorite writers for a reason: she always gives me a well-rounded story filled with the perfect level of connection, heat, and mesmerizing feeling. She always delivers a story that is equal parts intense, consuming, and unforgettable to say the least, and The Found Duet was no different. JC and Gwen’s story was enrapturing, heart racing, and all-feeling to say the least, and I LOVED every word I got from these two. They completely pulled me in, and they never let me go once while I was reading these books. This series is a spin off of Laurelin Paige’s fantastic Fixed Trilogy, and I have to say it was amazing to be back with all of these characters once again. I had always been curious of Gwen’s character, and these books gave me all of her and more. I loved that girl something fierce, and the journey she goes on with JC will pull at your heart more times than you can count. It’ll also probably melt you a bit from time to time too, and what you get from these two as they fight against and give into the world of feeling they share, will have you loving them both to pieces. “Carpe diem, Quinn. Today is the first day of the rest of your life (is that how that corny saying goes?). Anyway, I decided that we needed to up the stakes for your first foray into Good Girl Gone Bad-dom.” ~Just Say Yes

Elizabeth Hayley is one of my favorite writing duos, and their books are chalk full of laugh out loud humor, moments that will have your cheeks heating and hurting simultaneously because your smiling and blushing like crazy, and characters that never fail to find themselves in your heart. I have LOVED all of their books, and this year they released The Best Medicine and Just Say Yes, two interconnected standalones that tell the charming, fun, and utterly fantastic love stories of a group of friends. The Best Medicine follows Lauren and Dr. Scott, and their back and forth banter is sure to win you over on about page 2. Just Say Yes follows Quinn and Tim, Lauren’s best friend and Scott’s brother respectively, as Tim tries to help Quinn get out of her comfort zone. Both of these books were fabulous, and they tell two very different stories of love, and the event filled, humor driven, and feeling and emotion bursting moments that it takes to get there. Both of these books and characters highlight the talent and phenomenal writing skills of Elizabeth Hayley. “He yells, “I want any part of you that you’re willing to give me!”
We both fall quiet. Breathing hard. Staring each other down.
And his voice drops low. Defeated. “I’ll take anything, Kate.
Just . . . don’t tell me it’s over. I won’t accept that.”   ~Twisted

“Life is a short, wild ride. Don’t try to put the brakes on, don’t over-analyze or try to control it. If you’re lucky, like I was, you’ll find that perfect someone who’ll sit next to you and hold your hand through every curve, every up and down.” ~Tamed

“I’m not gonna wish you happiness, ’cause you’ve already got that. So I’ll just say, may the road rise to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon our face. May you live as long as you want, and never want as long as you live. May there be a generation of children on the children of your children. May you live to be a hundred years, with one extra year to repent. And may the saddest day of your and Kate’s future be no worse than the happiest day of your past.” ~Tied

Now I know I am WAY BEHIND on reading this books, so please excuse the fact that I just read the Tangled Series by Emma Chase this year. I am sorry. I messed up big time because these books were AMAZING, laugh out loud funny, and they introduced me to one of my new favorite authors. I LOVED every word of this series, the feels, the laughs, the moments that squeezed my heart and the moments that had my cheeks hurting because I was smiling so much. If you haven’t read these books, then you NEED to. They are fantastically written, and half of them are told from a solely male point of view, which is outstanding in case you were wondering. Drew Evans is one of the most distinctive, effervescent, and wonderful male characters I have ever had the chance to fall in love with, and I basked in everything that that man gave me. He is charming and wonderful and he has absolutely no filter, and experiencing what it was like for that man to fall in love was EVERYTHING. This series gave me the best of him, Kate, and all of the other unforgettable characters of these books, and I loved every single wonderful bit of them!

Nine Minutes and Out of Time by Beth Flynn are two of the most well plotted, gripping, and thrilling books that I have ever had the pleasure of reading. I swear Beth Flynn must have gone through thousands of index cards when writing and plotting this book, because of how well layered these books were. I was completely consumed by these books from start to finish, and I could not get enough of the mesmerizing story and characters they allowed me to experience. The story that this series tells spans decades and states, and it will reach every recess of your mind and heart while you are reading everything from its pages. Sometimes you don’t get the fairytale happily ever after, but if you’re lucky, you get so much more. You get a perfect beginning that you can keep hold of until the end.” ~Empty Promises

Empty Promises was the first book that I read by Elle Brooks, and it’s what made me fall in love with her writing and fantastic storytelling. What she gave me in Empty Promises fulfilled me on so many levels, and the level of emotion and feeling behind what she was writing completely stole my heart. This book is the third book in her Promises Series, but it can either be read before the other two books or after, and I LOVED that because this book made me HAVE to read the other books in the series. Empty Promises tells an emotional and heart squeezing story of first love, promises, and the hope and pain that accompany Emily as she tries to make her last few months on this planet unforgettable. “Everyone always talks about being color blind. And I get that. I do. But maybe instead of being color blind, we should celebrate color, in all its shades. It kind of bugs me that we’re supposed to ignore our differences like we don’t see them, when seeing them doesn’t have to be a negative.” ~The Law of Moses

“Millie told me once that the ability to devastate is what makes a song beautiful. Maybe that’s what makes life beautiful too. The ability to devastate. Maybe that’s how we know we’ve lived. How we know we’ve truly loved.” ~The Song of David

Amy Harmon has created many beautiful and unforgettable stories that I have found myself lost in, and I have loved each and every story of hers that I have had the chance to read. Earlier this year when I read The Law of Moses and The Song of David, I was once again blown away by the power, emotion, and beauty of her writing, and I have no doubt that these two books will be some of my favorites from her. I LOVED them. I loved what they made me think and feel and experience. I love how I hurt through them, hoped through them, and felt the fierce and determined fight of these characters through every page of what I was reading. Amy Harmon’s vivid and all-feeling writing weaves together two stories that will make you think and feel and live it all with her characters in the most captivating ways, and in the end you will be in awe of what you’ve just read. Moses and David left me in awe. They blew me away with their respective stories, and the unforgettable moments I got with them in their books are some that I will NEVER forget. The Consolation Duet by Corinne Michaels is a military romance at its finest. What she gives you in this duet is nothing short of phenomenal, and the level of connection and pull you will feel from and to Natalie and Liam as you read these books is out of this world. From the moment I started these books, I couldn’t stop reading them, and I will tell you now be glad both book are out, because the cliffhanger in Consolation…I’m still not over that! (And I love that months later I still feel that! Major props to Corinne Michaels for that!) It’s about what happens when you’re sent reeling from the events that come your way, and what happens when the person who helps you put yourself back together, the one who helps make you whole once again, is the one person you shouldn’t be with. ~Never Never Part 1 &2 by Colleen Hoover & Tarryn Fisher~

Amazon    B&N     KOBO

“You think you can make me like you again?”
I look over at her and give my head the slightest shake. “No. I’m gonna make you fall in love with me again.”
~Never Never Part 1

“Never forget that I was your first real kiss. Never forget that you’ll be my last.
And never stop loving me between all of them.
Never stop, Charlie.
Never forget.” ~Never Never Part 2

I have never had more questions, upon questions, upon questions while reading a story than I had when I read Never Never Part 1 and 2 by Colleen Hoover and Tarryn Fisher. This story blew me away, and it had my mind mentally trying to put it all together the more and more I read. Never Never Part 1 and 2 are gripping, captivating to say the least, and in the end of Part 2 I think I had more questions than answers, but I LOVE that. This series tells the story of Silas and Charlie, two people who wake up with no memory of who they are, and it follows them both as they try to put the pieces of the puzzle back together again. This series is full of mystery and suspense with a healthy dose of pull and connection, and a helluva lot of questions, and I am telling you that just when you think you might’ve figure out something, a new piece of information will come along to shatter everything you think you know. I have never read a series quite like this one, and I know I probably never will again because it doesn’t get more thrilling or enrapturing or mesmerizing than what Colleen Hoover and Tarryn Fisher created in this series. It should also be noted that the last and final part of the series releases in just a few short weeks, and I can’t wait for that last piece of the puzzle. I. NEED. IT.

~The Fading Series: Fading, Freeing, & Falling by E.K. Blair~

Amazon    B&N

“I don’t understand what I did that was so wrong.”
Wiping away my tears with his thumb, he says,
“You didn’t do anything wrong.”
“Then why did this happen to me?” ~Fading

“In the end there doesn’t
have to be anyone who
understands you…
There just has to be someone
who wants to.”
~Freeing

“I’m sure she can hear my heart pounding, but I need her to hear me. I need her to feel it as it thuds in my chest because I need her to hear me falling for her, ‘cause that’s what’s happening here – I’m falling. I never wanted to before, but with her, all I want to do is fall. Fall into her. Fall so deep inside of her heart so that I never have to be without her.” ~Falling

How do I even begin to describe my LOVE for The Falling Series by E.K. Blair? This is one of the most well written, utterly emotional, and all-feeling stories that I have ever read. Each book had me falling harder and harder under the spell and pull of these characters. What I think I loved the most about this series was that each book was told solely from a different characters perspective, yet all three books surround the same event and the ramifications of that event on each of the characters. E.K. Blair wove together 3 unique and distinctive stories in this series, and with each new character, and each new book, I fell more and more in full on love with Jace, Candace, and Ryan. Their stories were all emotional, all intense, and I felt and breathed and lived every word of them through E.K. Blair’s outstanding writing. These books will give you one of the most fulfilling and consuming stories you’ll ever read, and I truly can’t recommend them more to you. The level of emotion and connection you will feel to them all as they search for that light among the darkness, as they try to heal from all the pain they experience, and as they try to find the one thing they all so truly deserve, love.

~The One Night Series: One Night Promised, One Night Denied, & One Night Unveiled by Jodi Ellen Malpas~

Amazon    B&N     KOBO

“I want to surrender myself to you completely, Livy. I want to be yours. You are my perfect.”  ~One Night Promised

“She’s the blood in my veins.” He speaks clearly and softly. “She’s the air in my lungs.” There’s a slight pause, and I’m sure I hear William inhale a shocked breath. “She’s the bright, hopeful light in my tortured darkness. I’m warning you, Anderson. Don’t try to take her away from me.” ~One Night Denied

“I fucking love her!” Tears burst from my eyes and I fall into his side. He immediately grabs me and pulls me close. “I love her. I love everything she stands for and I love how much she loves me. It’s more than you love me. It’s more than any of you claim to love me! It’s pure and light. It’s made me feel. It’s made me want more. If any fucker tries to take her away from me, I’ll fucking kill them.” ~One Night Unvieled

Jodi Ellen Malpas has one of the greatest writing talents that I have ever experienced, and I am so thrilled that I finally read all of her books this year. I LOVED every single heart racing, well thought out, and exceptionally written word of this series and I was blown away by everything her series gave me. Livy and M’s story has the perfect level of suspense and mystery, emotion and feeling, and a love story that you will feel every ounce of. When I finally got around to reading this series this past summer, I couldn’t stop reading these books. I couldn’t get enough of what I was getting from these books. Every jaw dropping moment, every shocking revelation, and every bit of feeling and love that bursts from Livy and M will leave you in awe of their story and what Jodi Ellen Malpas creates for them. I thought it would be hard to top Jesse Ward, because that man is everything, but M, and everything I got from him in this series just about had Jesse beat. Seriously. This series is not to be missed, and every emotion, every feeling, and every meltworthy moment of this series had me loving it all even more!

~The Edge of Never & The Edge of Always by J.A. Redmerski~

Amazon    B&N     KOBO

“I think that if past lives are real then we have been lovers in every single one of them. I’ve known you for a short time, but I feel like I’ve known you forever.”   ~The Edge of Never

“You’re the world to me,” I whisper onto
her lips. “I hope you never forget that.”
“I’ll never forget,” she whispers back.. “But if I ever do, for
whatever reason, I hope you’ll always find a way to remind me.”
…“Always.”
   ~The Edge of Always

This is another series that I can’t believe I waited so long to read….I had always meant to read them, and with one not so subtle shove from a friend of mine, I started reading them and I LOVED THEM. I could not stop reading and feeling and living Andrew and Camryn’s story. The intensity of what those two feel for one another is out of this world phenomenal, and reading their story in this series had me falling hard and fast for the both of them. The Edge of Never and The Edge of Always had my heart reeling, my pulse racing, and I simply couldn’t get enough of what they both so authentically and fully gave me. Their story is one that had the perfect level of emotion, the best amount of feeling, and showed the amazing things that love can bring you if you only open yourself up to it. Andrew and Camryn had an amazing and unforgettable love story that mesmerized me from start to end. There was so much meaning and feeling behind everything that they shared, and I loved every bit of what they gave me in their story!

~The Blackistone Affair: Naked, All In, Eyes Wide Open, & Rare and Precious Things by Raine Miller~

Amazon    B&N     KOBO

“That picture changed everything. I was not the same after I saw it and I couldn’t go back to the man I’d been before seeing it either. Not after we met that night on the street. My whole world altered because of a photograph. A photograph of my beautiful American girl.”   ~Naked

“I have no intentions of letting you go.” I swallowed hard. “If you come with me you’re signing on for all of me, Brynne. I don’t know any other way to be with you. It’s all in for me. And I want it to be all in for you too.” ~All In

“The one who had the power to take me apart was also the only one with the power to put me back together again.” ~Eyes Wide Open

“I knew more happiness and love than I’d ever experienced in my life, and now understood how precious it was to have that love.” ~Rare and Precious Things

The Blackistone Affair was a series that reinforced over and over again why I am such a huge fan of series. Spending 4 books with the same amazing and phenomenal couple was downright outstanding. I couldn’t get enough of Ethan and Brynne’s intense, mesmerizing, and highly charged relationship. From the moment I started Naked, I was blown away by everything that Ethan and Brynne gave me, and I couldn’t get enough. I wanted more, I craved more, and I NEEDED MORE. That lead to me devouring these books within just a few days, and I loved every single word of this series. I loved getting to be there with Ethan and Brynne through it all, through every up and down, through every shocking and intense moment, and through every moment in which they fell harder for one another. Their love story was mesmerizing, powerful, and full of so many blushworthy and swoonworthy moments that had me loving it all. Raine Miller brought so many amazing characters and feelings to life in this series, and I will not soon forget what it was like to read these books and to experience the beauty and feeling of her writing. This is a series full of romance and emotion and feels upon feels upon feels, and it truly doesn’t get better than that!

“I’ve never been able to hold back with you. It’s always been full measures or nothing. No halfway bullshit.”

She ran her fingers through my hair, and I groaned when she scratched her nails lightly over my scalp. God, it felt so damn good.

“I’ve always loved that about us. We’re all in. Always.”

“Yes.”

“But that’s not ugly. Nothing you’ve told me is ugly.”

My stomach dropped, and we passed through the station on route to Peak Eight. I looked up to the green mountains, their beauty overwhelming, their sheer size distorted because we were too close to accurately gauge their mass.

“Even knowing everything we have, this incredible love that we share, our beautiful life that we’re building…” I shook my head and looked down at her knees.

“Josh.” She tipped my chin. “I’m here. No matter what you’re about to say.”

“Medevacing the wounded… Ember, I’ve found my purpose. I’ll always go when they call. How many deployments can you wait through? How many times can I leave you?”

Fear streaked through her eyes, but she masked it before I could question her. “As many as it takes. I would rather sit home and wait for you, than spend a lifetime with anyone else.”

He has a way of erasing the pain with a single look, a single touch. As much as she wants to turn off her feelings and endure the heartache on her own, she can’t deny their intense attraction.

Full Measures Hallway Scene – Josh POV

The tile floor was cold under my bare feet as I leaned back against the kitchen counter, eating even colder ice cream. Muffled voices came from the entry hall, which probably meant Jagger had another girl over. Not that I cared, but it was a harsh reminder that the only girl I wanted was literally a wall away and wanted nothing to do with me.

Then again, after watching her set that shirt on fire yesterday, I was beginning to think it was less me she was angry at and more the entire world. I got it, really. She’d lost her dad, her mom wasn’t functioning, and she couldn’t get a moment peaceful enough to get her feet under her. She was frustrating as hell, and I couldn’t even blame her for it. Stronger women would have crumbled under what she’d been handed. So I flipped Jagger off when he’d asked me if we needed to call Oprah about my “manpain,” ate ice cream like a heartbroken girl, and tried not to fantasize about licking it off Ember. Looks like I failed that one, too.

“Barbies?” Ember’s voice came through clear as a bell, and I nearly dropped my spoon. Chills ran down my arms, and it wasn’t because of the ice cream currently melting on my tongue. Nope, just my skin reacting to her nearness. I licked off the back of the spoon, abandoned the bowl on the counter, and moved to straighten my shirt, but I wasn’t wearing one. I didn’t give it a second thought before I quietly rounded the corner, leaning back against the wall to get a better look at her.

“Walker! You got company!” Jagger called out, not realizing I was right behind him. Then again, neither did Ember, which gave me a coveted minute to soak her in, adorable bare feet and all. “Just in case he isn’t what you’re looking for… My name’s Jagger.”

“It’s nice to meet you, Jagger.”

“Oh, it’s my pleasure.”

Oh, hell no. I knew that voice on Jagger, the one that sought any good-looking woman in a five-mile radius, and couldn’t stay quiet. “Jagger, back the fuck up off Ember.”

His head dropped a fraction of an inch, just enough to let me know he’d heard me stake the claim. I’d pulled some kindergarten shit and basically licked her like a snack I didn’t want to share — I didn’t give a fuck if it was immature.

“And another one bites the dust,” Jagger said as he passed by me. He shot up his eyebrows in question, and I answered with an almost indistinguishable nod. Yes, this is the girl I’ve been talking about.

He laughed so quietly I almost missed it. Almost. Laugh it up. One day it will be you.

I locked my gaze on Ember and waited to see what she would do. She was like a wounded animal, and every time I reached my hand out, she’d bite, so this time I’d let her move first. It took every ounce of willpower I had not to move toward her.

She walked inside the entry hall, stopping close enough for me to kiss. Damn, she was beautiful. I would have killed for even a hint of what was going on behind those blue eyes. She blinked, but stayed silent.

I reached out before I could stop myself and palmed her cheek. “December?” Damn if she didn’t lean into my touch. It was there, the crackle of energy, the invisible tie that kept me tethered to her no matter how hard or far she pushed me away.

Her breath hitched as she turned into my hand, her lips parting as she skimmed over my skin, inhaling. Want slammed through me, and I forced it back on the bench. I wasn’t sure why she was here, or what she needed, but it wasn’t me pouncing on her.

Or maybe it is. I barely finished the thought before her mouth was on mine, hard and insistent. I was all too willing.

This wasn’t a gentle kiss, or even an apologetic one. It was open, carnal, and I sank into her, desperate to give her what we both craved. A growl ripped from my throat when she sucked my tongue into her mouth. God, she was warm.

I took control, stroking down her curves until her perfect ass filled my hands. With a squeeze, I brought her with me as I flipped to press her against the wall. Then I kissed her like I needed to, stroking her mouth with my tongue the way I’d used my fingers on her body back in Breckenridge—relentlessly and to every advantage.

Her fingers sank into my hair, and she moaned into my mouth, pushing me one step closer to losing what little control I had left. But when she rocked her hips against me, all thoughts of restraint fled. I licked down her neck, savoring her pulse against my tongue and the way she gasped when I gently kissed the patch of skin at the base.

Zip! Holy shit. She unzipped her hoodie, exposing miles of soft skin above her tank top. I picked her up, using the wall as leverage as I set my mouth to the delicate lines of her collarbone. Her taste, her scent, all of her surrounded me, blurring the outside world until there was only Ember.

I met her gaze, her eyes soft and hazed with the same lust streaking through my veins. “Josh,” she whispered, holding my face like I was something precious. I’d been a lot of things to a lot of different girls, but precious wasn’t really one of them, and she was infinitely more precious to me for it.

I set her down but didn’t back away, feeling every curve and hollow against my bare skin, and barely biting back a groan. I wish I’d had a shirt on. Oh, who the fuck was I kidding? Ten shirts couldn’t have protected me from Ember.

I kissed her again, using every ounce of skill I had to make her lose herself in the same way I had. I kept her guessing, never allowing her to settle into the kiss, changing the tempo, the pressure, anything to keep her as off-balance as she had me. She skimmed her fingers down my chest, along the lines of my stomach, and tensed. She dipped her fingers under the band of my flannel pants, and I was ready to rip every piece of clothing off her body so I could get to her skin. Another inch and she’d feel exactly how badly I wanted her.

Damn it. This was way too much, and not anything of what she actually needed. I’d be her whatever, but I had to draw the line when she was doing more harm than good. “December,” I whispered against her mouth, her lips swollen from mine, and pulled back just far enough to rest my forehead against hers. I closed my eyes until I had my body back under control. “I’m fucking desperate to carry you to my bedroom, but I don’t think this is what you want.”

Her eyes flew wide, and her skin stained pink before she hid behind her hands. “What am I doing?”

I got my shit under control, taking two deep breaths before I pulled her hands away. “What are you doing?”

“I came to say I’m sorry for the way I’ve been treating you. Sorry for the mixed signals.” She laughed. “But apparently I jumped you instead, and now I’m sorry for that, too.”

“Sorry for jumping me?” Hell no. I smiled. She could be sorry for pushing me away, for going from hot to cold faster than the kitchen faucet she used to put that fire out yesterday. But I wouldn’t let her apologize for giving me a few minutes to glimpse heaven.

“No. I’m not sorry for jumping you. I’m sorry about my god-awful timing.”

My smile slipped as I ran my thumb across the lips I was becoming obsessed with. “I told you I’m here for whatever you need, Ember. Jumping, apologies, whatever.”

“I’d better get back to studying.”

Boom. She may as well have slammed the door on me, and I retreated a step. “I’d better get in the shower.”

“Didn’t you just…?”

I let my mind wander to the shower, to what I could do to her body, pressed up against mine, water making her slick under my hands – how easy it would be to slide inside her. Stop. “Yeah, but I think I need another one at a different temperature.”

She flushed brighter pink. “Oh. I’m sorry about that, too.”

I couldn’t stop a grin from overtaking me. “I’m not.” I stepped forward until her back hit the wall, then bent down, a breath away from her lips, from what I knew we both wanted but wouldn’t push for. “If you apologize like that, feel free to treat me like shit any time you want. I will be your personal doormat.”
