Those are just a few of the words that instantly come to mind when I think about Break My Fall by M. Mabie. As I sit here thinking about this book there are so many other positive adjectives that come to mind when I think of this story and what M. Mabie created within it. Raw, intensely real, and authentic. Emotional and all-feeling in every way. Exceptionally written and crafted through every page. Life changing, heart gripping, and utterly magnificent. Mind blowing and bursting with moments that will have you questioning everything. Phenomenal, outstanding, and just damn good.

I could seriously go on and on about this book and what it creates with Myra and Abraham.

Their story is unlike any other story I have ever read.

I have NEVER read a book like this one. I have NEVER experienced a book like this one. I have NEVER lived in a world quite like this one or met characters like the ones I found in this book. I have NEVER had writing completely transport me into a world or into a character’s head or into such consuming and unforgettable moments in such a way like I did while reading this book. I promise you have NEVER read or experienced or lived a story like this one, and that is just part of what makes this one of the most exceptional stories I have ever gotten my hands on.

What M. Mabie creates in this book, in the start of this trilogy, is wholly unique, encapsulating in its own spectacular way, and will take you into a world that you have never been a part of. A world made up of people with their own rules, their own laws, and their own way of doing things. A world made up of banding ceremonies and helpmeets, a world brimming with seclusion and oppression, a world where nothing is as it seems, yet no one knows the real depths and pulls of it all. A world of lies, of freedom, of fight and fire.

A world unlike any other I have been in while reading a book, and a world that I can’t wait to find myself back in as soon as humanly possible.

I read this book days ago and I still can’t stop thinking about it. I still can’t stop thinking about these characters and their lives and what they’re beginning to share with one another. I can’t stop thinking about what is going to happen next, what has already happened, and what it all means. I can’t stop thinking about the emotion and the religion and the craziness that unfolded within the pages of this book. I can’t stop thinking about what M. Mabie created in this book and so incredibly brought to life with her words. I can’t stop thinking about it all.

These characters and this story and this world have overtaken me, and I love it. I love that I can’t stop feeling what I did while reading this book. I love that I can’t stop thinking and wondering about Lancaster, and what’s really happening there, and what will happen as more pieces come to this puzzle. I love that I just NEED more, more of that emotion, more of that raw honesty, more of what is so extraordinarily building between Myra and Abraham, more of what is pulling them together, yet pushing them apart in the same breath…more of it all. I want it all with them, I need it all with them, and I HAVE to have it all with them. The level of what I feel for their characters and this story and what M. Mabie is so dynamically creating in this world and series truly sets this book in a league of its own.

This book gave me life while I read it, and I do not say that lightly.

There were so many moments while reading where my breath was stolen because of the intensity of the moments in the pages of this book. There were other moments that shocked me to my core. Whether it was from the rules of Lancaster, what Myra or Abraham were doing or feeling, or whether it was from the moments they so vividly shared together, I was shocked. I felt that shock, the emotion and the physical effects that went with it, and I felt the changes that brought to these characters and what they shared. There were moments in this book where I practically swooned for Abraham and the goodness and the thoughtfulness of that man. There were moments when I practically cheered for Myra as she took chances that must’ve been so scary and felt so risky.

There were moments that had me practically YELLING at my kindle for one reason or another. Whether it was because I wanted and needed these characters to give into even just a morsel of what was so intensely and authentically building between them….or if it was the moments where things started to change and their worlds and perspectives and minds meshed and flip flopped and swayed in the most unforgettable and tangible of ways…or whether it was the moments that had me so vividly connected to these characters and their journeys and their feelings as they tried to wade their way through the murky waters of what is right, what is wrong, what is and isn’t okay, and as they came into their own...all of it had my heart and soul and mind and breath and voice in this story.

I lived this story as much as it gave me life and that is a true testament to what M. Mabie so phenomenally creates in every page of this book.

What I loved about this story was that as much as it is a slow burning romance that will give you the feels and emotion and heart and connection you crave in a love story, it will also give you a story that will make you think and question and wonder about everything.

The way that M. Mabie so incredibly weaves together a story that infuses faith and religion and morals and choice together made for a story unlike any other I have read before. I am not a religious person, I am not someone who even knows that much about religion, but I was fascinated by the way M. Mabie so carefully and thoughtfully brought religion, and every aspect of it, into this story. She finds a way to perfectly balance the religion and the pieces of this cult and the faith these characters have in way that isn’t too much, yet holds an exceptional level of meaning for them and their story as it all unfolds. The way religion and faith are almost their own characters and presence in this story is just one of the many amazing aspects this authors brings to life in Break My Fall.

That along with the moments that will make you question everything, that will have you wondering what you would do or what you would feel or what you would think, and those moments that will make you think long and hard about what is right and wrong, what is okay, what is a bad choice or a good choice, and what it means when control and consent and independence and choice mesh together will just give you it all. And then some.

That was this entire book. It was everything and then some. It was so much more, so much glorious more, and it just blew me away with everything it had.

I have never read a book like this, and as I read this story I found myself wanting to slow down my pace of reading because I never wanted it to end. I never wanted to leave what this author was bringing to life in me and in this world and in these characters. I never wanted to leave the intense and honest connection that was building so intricately between Abraham and Myra. I never wanted to leave this story that made me question and wonder about everything, every choice, every scripture, every word and feeling and moment. I never wanted to leave it all, and that just left me more than ready for the rest of this trilogy.

Break My Fall is hands down one of my top reads for the year and one of the best books I have ever had the pleasure of reading. It was different, it was memorable, it was a world unlike any other I have lived in, and it gave me two complicated, real, and authentic characters that I immediately connected to. What you get within their heads, what you live and breathe with them in this story, and what you feel with them along the way as this all unfolds will break you in ways, will push you in others, will have every part of your mind and heart and soul with them through it all, and in the end, will have you knowing that what you’ve just experienced with them was nothing short of everything.

This book is one that I will never forget reading. And as I sit here writing this review, all I can think about is how much I want more of these characters, more of this unforgettable and dynamic world, and more of what M. Mabie so outstandingly created in this book. This author is a true writer with a talent that knows no bounds, and every bit of that shows in what she brings to life in Break My Fall.

Excerpt:

A cloud of smoke followed the silver-haired woman out the door of the main building onto the covered porch outside, and she shot the butt of her cigarette into the dirt in front of the semi.

“Your mother’s been trying to reach you.”

My phone had died two days earlier, and I’d forgotten to bring a charger. Mom was the only person I still spoke with from Lancaster, but it was rare for her to call me, and I only reached out a few times a year.

“Say what she wanted?” I asked and slid my hands into worn leather gloves.

“Honey, I hate to be the one to tell you this, but your brother passed away last night.”

Ted Grier hung back in the doorway, watching. Both of their faces wore sympathy.

“Pardon?”

“Your brother passed, Abe. You should call her back. Come on in and use the phone.”

I hadn’t spoken to my brother in years, but when I left home with no plans to return, I just assumed things would stay how I left them. They’d cling to their Bibles and bands and keep living in their own warped version of reality. They’d stay tucked under the strict thumb of the Legacies and God, or at least the way they interpreted him, and I’d live my life in the woods, free of their judgment and rules.

Alone and how I liked it.

They lived how they wanted, and I did the same.

I squinted in the mid-day sun, and the tension in my neck pinched even tighter.

“Jacob died?”

Ted limped to the stoop, tapped a Camel from his pack and lit it. “Son, you wanna come inside for a minute? Call your family?”

I did not. Calling them was the last thing I wanted.

It was almost noon, and I still had more than half day’s work to finish. The tobacco in the air was thick as I pulled it into my chest. “I’ll call when I get home.”

It was supposed to rain for the next four days in the hills, and there was work that needed to be done. Calling in the middle of the day wasn’t going to do anything but put me behind, and my brother would still be dead that evening.

Lie: I only have a few things to say about this book.

There are so many things I want and need to say about The Truth About Lies by Aly Martinez…and honestly I don’t even know where to start because this book was that damn good that I’m still in literal awe of it days after finishing it.

I can’t get this story out of my head. I can’t stop thinking about it. All. The. Time. I can’t stop my brain from wracking itself crazy in the best way with what this book so meticulously and thoughtfully created within its pages. I can’t stop wondering what will happen next as this story concludes. I can’t stop feeling the physical and deeply emotional effect these characters and their story have had on me. I still feel them. I can still feel their pain and emotion and love and fire. I still find myself thinking and wondering about them. I still find myself utterly consumed and enraptured by their presence, their strength and the shear determination and fight they have.

I haven’t been able to stop thinking or feeling or living or breathing this story since I finished it. And I love it. I LOVE that I have been owned by this story. I love that what Aly Martinez so exceptionally created in this book has left a permanent mark on me, my head, and my heart. I love that I know this book, this story, these characters, and what I experienced with them will never fully leave me. I love that these characters have become so ingrained with me since I finished their story. I love that there really is no going back for me after reading this story and meeting Penn and Cora. I LOVE that I need the conclusion to their story more than I need my next breath. I love that these characters and this story were so dynamic, so memorable, and so damn special that I find myself wishing I could live in their world forever.

This book is one of the best books I have ever read. It has begun one of the most gripping stories I have ever had the chance to experience as a reader. It has addicted me and ensnared me within its grasp, and I honestly never want it to let go. I never want to be rid of these characters, or their moments, or their world because that is how beautifully and epically consumed I am with them.

This story is one unlike any other I have ever read. And I feel as if I say that every time I read a book by Aly Martinez, but that statement just continues to become truer every time I say it or type it. Each and every one of her stories are unlike any other I have read or experienced. Each and every one of her stories up the ante. Each and every one of them push me to the edge in a different and magnificent way. Each and every one of her stories makes me feel and live and breathe her the story she is presenting to me in such a dynamic way.

With each new book and story and world she creates, this author continues to blow me away. She continues to have me desperate for all of her words and characters and what her brilliant mind can create. She has me addicted to the emotional murdering her stories bring to life in the most tangible way, and I have truly never been happier to be murdered in feels, than I am when I’m reading a book by Aly Martinez. Her writing and storytelling are truly exceptional, and that was present in every page of The Truth About Lies.

This book was EVERYTHING. EV-ER-Y-THING.

It was emotional and raw. It was memorable. It was funny as hell in moments, and heartbreakingly sad in others. There are moments in this book that will make you smile, others that will make you angry at what these characters have lived through or what they must continue to fight for, and so many moments that will make you cry all the tears. And I do mean all the tears. (Have your tissues ready.) This book was suspenseful and twisty and turny in a way you will be in no way prepared for. It was written and crafted so thoughtfully, and let me tell you, just when you think you know what’s happening and you’ve got it all figured out, you will be SHOCKED by what that next page or chapter brings.

This book has Aly Martinez’s distinctive writing style and voice that perfectly weaves together a story that will literally leave you in awe. You will finish this book with a heart that is bursting for these characters, with lungs that are out of breath from everything this story delivers to you, and with a mind that is reeling in more ways than one because of what you get within the pages of this book. And honestly, that is just part of what makes this such an extraordinary book.

I want to tell you all the things about this book and this story and what you’ll get when you read it, but in the same breath I want to tell you nothing because you NEED to experience this book for yourself. You need to just go into, and be ready to be owned by it. You have to read it for yourself, you have to meet Penn and Cora, and experience your own level of addiction with what they give you. What I loved about this fourth installment was that it really started to push both Tristan and Isabel to figure out what in the world they were doing, what the plan was, and what all the pieces they were getting really meant. This fourth part pushed them both into situations they never thought they’d be in and it makes the reevaluate not only what their actions are, but what in the world they’re going to do with those hearts of theirs. This next part was everything to get with them, and getting to be right in the thick of it with them while they faced it all that came their way was nothing short of spectacular.

I truly can’t say enough how much I am addicted to this series and this world. What Meredith Wild creates within the pages of this installment and this entire series is the perfect romantic suspense. It keeps you on your toes, brings the fire and heated connection that is as intense as the action these two characters face, and it brings you two dynamic characters who are fighting for their lives, for their freedom, and for their love and themselves.

I have no doubt that Meredith Wild will continue to blow us all away with what she has planned for this series. If you have been reading and enjoying this series, you will absolutely love where this fourth installment takes you with Tristan and Isabel. This part will leave you guessing and wondering, it’ll have you on the edge of your seat and breathless from what you get with these characters, and in the end, it’ll just have you dying and so beyond ready for more. Meredith Wild truly delivers it all and then some in this book and series, and what you get with these characters will just have you loving it all the more!!

Chasing Clouds is one of the best books I have EVER read. I seriously feel like shouting that as I type this because that is how true that last statement is. I LOVED every single word of this book, and I truly cannot say enough how much it gave me, how much it owned me, and how it truly is one of the best books I have EVER read.

I honestly don’t know if I have the right amount of words to really capture what this book gave me and allowed me to experience while I read it. I just don’t feel as if my words are good enough to capture what Kathryn Andrews so beautifully captured and created in this book. As I read this story, I felt as if I was on fire in a way that I have never quite experienced before when reading a book. This book ignited something in me with its characters as it all unfolded. It had this light and spark and tangible magic that flowed through me as I experienced this story with Camille and Reid. It had me living and breathing and feeling every ounce of this mesmerizing story in a way that truly owned me from start to finish.

Experiencing that is just one of the many things that made me love this book so much.

Kathryn Andrews delivered one of the most amazing stories I have ever read in Chasing Clouds. Through her incredible writing and storytelling, she so thoughtfully crafted a story that was full of beauty, meaning, emotion, and so much heart. Her words made these characters and their story so real, so authentic, and so unforgettably honest in a way that deeply touched every part of my heart and soul. She painted such a vivid and vibrant picture with Camille and Reid and everything they shared through her mesmerizing words, and I honestly can’t say enough good things about that and everything she brought to life in this book.

She is one of my all-time favorite authors for a reason, and this book proved that to me again and again. She has a true talent for bringing worlds and characters and raw and honest emotion to life in a way that is truly spellbinding and magical. She just makes it all feel so real, so right, and so needed. She has done this in every book of hers, which I have LOVED, but there was truly something special about what she created in Chasing Clouds. She took it all to a whole new level, and completely wowed me with the heart and soul and feels she poured onto the pages of this book.

Experiencing her phenomenal words is just a fraction of what made me love this book so much.

Chasing Clouds is a sweeping and enthralling story of what happens when southern society, charm, and expectations mixes with a fake marriage that will change everything. Camille Whitley is a southern socialite who is doing what’s expected of her by marrying the “perfect” suitor. She’s following the plan set out for her, but she can’t help but wish for more and for a different path for her life, even though she can’t seem to find a way out. Enter Reid, a professional football player who doesn’t believe in marriage or anything serious. He’s only at the wedding of Camille Whitley for a chance to see his brother, but the moment he sees her and sees what’s going on around her, he can’t help but voice his objection to her wedding when given the opportunity.

Through every shocking revelation, through every moment of glorious build and tension, through every moment as they put their hearts on the line, through every moment of heart squeezing emotion and raw vulnerability, and through every single moment as they share what they do together.

Getting all of those pieces made for an all-feeling and vividly tangible reading experience that I will never forget. It was as if with every extraordinary piece I got of Camille and Reid, I found myself giving them pieces of myself, so that I could keep them with me forever. The love I have for those two has no bounds. It is real, it is tangible, and it is so beyond heartfelt because of the strength of the connection I feel towards the two of them.

I have wanted this story for so long, and I truly could not have asked for more from those two. What I got with them, what I felt with them and for them, what I had the chance to experience with them, and what I got to understand with them as they fell for one another is something I will always treasure. What they share is so heart touchingly real, so beautiful and magical and mesmerizing, and so them. It’s just them, in their most honest form. The good, the bad, the ugly and vulnerable, the emotion, the heart, and every lick of feeling in between. Their story is one of friendship, family, love and loyalty, pain and regret, and the healing and transformative power of honesty, vulnerability, and trust. She brought the charm, she brought the life and vibrancy and personality of these dynamic characters and setting, she brought the feels and emotion. She brought the moments that make you smile and swoon and fall, she brought the moments that make you cry and render you breathless with the emotion she brings to life, she brought the moments that show you who these characters really are and who they could be if they only took that leap of faith. She brought it all. And then some.

Chasing Clouds is hands down one of the best books I have ever read, and I will never forget it.

As I sit here finishing this review all I can think about is Camille and Reid and how much I already miss them. Those two are something special, and I truly love them something fierce with my entire heart. Everything I got with them in Chasing Clouds connected me to them, invested me in their individual and shared journeys, and showed me again and again how utterly perfect those two are for one another.

I could go on and on for ages about what I feel for those two and what I got during their story, but I know it will never be enough to truly capture how extraordinary their story is, so just do yourself a favor and read this book. Read it, love it, feel it all with them. Take it in, breathe it out, and be prepared to be completely swept up in the beauty, authenticity, emotion, and heart that permeates their story in the most incredible way.

It would be wrong not to.

From the very start of this book I was completely swept up into the magic, feels, fun, and unforgettable moments these characters were sharing. Temperance and Asher, and all of the other incredible characters of this book, made me smile, made me laugh, made my heart go pitter patter through every page, and I truly can’t say enough how much I enjoyed that.

This is Miranda Elaine’s debut novel, and let me tell you, you will be completely wowed by her writing and what she brings to life in the pages of this book. Her writing is so easy to sink right into, and she creates such a real world with authentic characters you will immediately be drawn to. Through her phenomenal writing she crafts a story that blends the perfect amount of humor, heart, and feels that will have you rooting for Temperance and Asher and all that they’re sharing together.

Miranda Elaine brings it all to life in this book that is so charming, so sweet, and so heartfelt. It has the best amount of moments that will have you laughing your ass off, moments that will have your heart and your ovaries swooning, and so many moments that will send your heart to these characters a million times over.

I was completely swept up into the literal sweetness and charm that Miranda Elaine so amazingly creates in this book, and I truly cannot say enough good things about this book, what it gives you, and this author and her incredible writing. My Review

5 Intense & Amazing Stars

The second installment of The Red Ledger picks up right where the first one left off. Isabel is back home in Washington DC still reeling from the events of the first part of the story. She is confused, she is missing Tristan, and she is just trying to make sense of what in the world is going on. Tristan is continuing to try to put the pieces of his past back together, all while trying to make sense of everything that he is learning about himself, about Isabel, and about what they shared together.

This second part of their story together continues their adrenaline pumping story, it continues all of the intensity from the first part of the series, and it will have you on your toes through every single page waiting to see what will happen next. In this story both Tristan and Isabel are faced with the reality of the situation they are in. He must realize what this all means, what his crashing past and present really means for his future and for Isabel’s future, and he has to simultaneously figure out how he’s going to get them out of the situation they’re in. Isabel on the other hand must come to terms with what this means for her life, with what she will and will not believe, and how far she is willing to go to save the man that she once and still does love.

This second part was everything I needed and more with Tristan and Isabel. Their story is one of the most addicting, intense, and consuming stories I have EVER read!! I loved every part of this story, and I am dying for more of them!!!

From the moment I started this part of their story, I could not put this book down. I was once again consumed within every twist and turn, with every shocking moment, and I loved all of the new dynamics and characters and storylines that were introduced in this part. Meredith Wild is setting up what I know will be an incredible an exceptional series (because it already is that and more!) and I cannot wait to see what she has in store for these characters. So many of the moments with these characters took my breath away, squeezed my heart, had me on the edge of my seat, and shocked me to my core. I loved it. I loved that I never knew what that next page would bring, I loved that I never knew what would happen next for these characters, and I loved that I was so consumed within it at all.

Meredith Wild has upped the ante in this second part, and she is laying more and more of the groundwork for what I know will be one of my favorite series ever. Her words, what she creates with them, and what she brings to life through every heart pounding and adrenaline spiking moment of this book is something I know I’ll never forget!

If you enjoyed the first installment of the series, you will love this one even more. You will love how it surprises you, you will love how it shocks you, you will love how you get more of Tristan and Isabel to love and root for and believe in, and you will love every single moment you get these characters.

I loved every word of this book. I loved what I got with these characters, I love how it entranced me even more within everything they were sharing and everything that was happening around them, and I loved getting to be there right along with them in all the action. Meredith Wild brought everything in credible word of this book to life, and I truly can’t tell you enough how exceptional it was to experience that!!! This second installment was everything I needed and more, and I cannot wait for the third one!!!

Trust me when I say that the moment you start the series you will not be able to put it down and you will love every single thing you get within its pages!

The Red Ledger is one of the most addicting reads I have ever read. This book took me on one helluva whirlwind from start to finish, and made for one serious intense and consuming read that I could not get enough of. I loved every part of this story. I loved the literal fire it sent through me as I read it. I loved how it left me breathless at times. I loved that it gave me a story unlike any other I’ve ever read before. And I loved that it started what I know will be one of my favorite series.

The first part of this series follows the suspenseful story of Isabel and Tristan. He’s murder for hire, and her name is at the top of his list. Yet the moment he goes to do the deed, her breathless whisper of his name, his real name changes everything. You see Tristan and Isabel have a past, yet he doesn’t remember any of it. She does though, and the more time he hesitates, the more he wonders about that past and the world of feeling that lays in that past that he can still feel the edges of. He also can’t seem to stop thinking about her and wondering more about what he’s forgotten. This story follows them as they set off on the run, as he tries to find the answers he seeks, and as she tries to see if the Tristan she loved all those years ago is somehow still in the man who was hired to kill her.

Every word of this story will pull you in something fierce, and the more you get with these two, the more you will need more. Meredith Wild makes this world, these characters, and their story addicting to say the least, and she will have you beyond ready to see what will unfold in this new world and series. This world in this book and series is darker, its grittier and more complicated, yet there is a tangible and palpable fire that will pull your mind and heart into every breathtaking word. From start to finish this book will have you on the edge of your seat ready to see where that next turn of the page will bring you, and trust me when I say that you will be so enraptured by it all.

The Red Ledger was fantastic. It was a phenomenal, quick, utterly suspenseful and fiery read that was intense as all get out and one of the most consuming reads I’ve read in such a long time. I loved getting every word of Isabel and Tristan’s story, and I can’t wait to see where those next chapters will take them both.
