Wilder

Rebecca Yarros

Synopsis2

He’s Paxton Wilder.

Twenty-two-year-old, tattooed, smoking-hot leader of the Renegades.

Five time X Games medalist.

The world is his playground—especially this year—and for the next nine months I’m stuck as his tutor on the Study at Sea program.

He’s too busy staging worldwide stunts for his documentary to get to class.

But if I can’t get him to take academics seriously, I’ll lose my scholarship…if I don’t lose my heart first.

Six unlikely friends on a nine-month cruise with the Study at Sea program will learn that chemistry is more than a subject and the best lessons aren’t taught in the classroom…but in the heart.

*****Five Completely  Unforgettable Stars*****

There is something to be said about a book that completely takes you within its grasp in every way possible way from the very first word until the very last. Those are the kinds of books you feel every ounce of. Those are the kinds of books that you LOVE whole heartedly with every breath in your body. Those are the kinds of books that give you experiences and characters and moments you’ve never met before, yet know from the very first time you live and experience their world with them, that you NEED more of them all in your life.

Books like that give me life. Books like that are why I am a reader. Books like that are unforgettable in every way, shape and form.

Wilder by Rebecca Yarros is a book like that. It’s a book like that and more.

When I tell you that this book is everything, I mean it. It’s everything. And then some. It’s swoony, it’s emotional, it’s full of feels and spark and adrenaline that will have you feeling and breathing and just in awe of it all. It’ll take your breath away, give you life with every turn of that page, while simultaneously having you fall in fierce, all out love with two extraordinary characters.

This story will make you, it will bring you to places you never thought you’d get to go, and along the way it’ll give you one helluva story that will turn your world, and your heart, upside down in the best possible way.

Now if there’s one thing I know in life, it’s that Rebecca Yarros knows how to write a darn good book. I have read everything she’s written, and let me tell you, this author knows how to write. She knows how to thrust you into it all in the most all-consuming way to the point that you will literally not be able to put the book down. She knows how to connect you in every way possible to the authentic and completely realistic world she creates, and more than that she allows you to understand what it’s like to live the lives her characters do. She also knows how to create some wonderfully distinctive characters that will steal your heart from the very first time you meet them.

Bottom line: Rebecca Yarros puts you in her books, heart first, and lets you get, feel, and understand it all through every turn of the page, and that is just part of what makes reading a book with her so exceptional.

Wilder is the start of a new series from this author, and I have to say that the premise of this book had me intrigued from the very start. The thought of getting to experience characters travelling the world, while also getting to see them complete the most extreme and adventurous stunts had me knowing that this was a book I didn’t want to miss. Throw in the fact that this story involves two seemingly opposite characters falling hard and fast for one another, and I was beyond sold on what this book had to offer.

From the very first page of Wilder, I was hooked, lined, and sinkered into everything Rebecca Yarros so exceptionally crafted with these two. From those first moments of getting to know Leah and seeing her firecracker self burst off of the page, to getting to experience the literal spark that is Paxton Wilder, to getting to be there as these two got to know one another and then being there as it all started to change between them…I was beyond smitten with everything I was getting in this story.

Through every new chapter in this book, Paxton and Leah become closer and closer, and I just continued to fall harder and deeper for the two of them, and the possibilities of what could be. There truly is something undeniable about the two of them. There is a tangible spark between those two that fires off the page like the most brilliant and mesmerizing fireworks show you’ve ever see and experienced in your life. You FEEL that spark in your bones while reading Wilder because that’s how real and authentic and visceral it feels.

Rebecca Yarros allows you to be in every single second of this book with Paxton and Leah as they realize more and more what’s happening between them, and getting the emotional, raw, and intense connection you do with them will bring that all to life in the most spectacular way.

When I tell you that their story took my breath away, I am not exaggerating. Not one little bit. Their story, their backgrounds, their own personal struggles and fears and heartbreak, coupled with what they were trying to create together literally stole my breath on more than one occasion. All of that also made my heart feel like it was racing out of my chest at times, or melting into a puddle of emotion the deeper and riskier things got for these two, and through it all they just kept stealing my breath.

Their level of real connection and all-feeling spark that lit me on fire, stole my breath.

Their level of honesty, vulnerability with themselves and with one another, and the depth of what they were willing to share, even though it scared them out of their minds, stole my breath.

Their level of emotion that literally hurt my heart at times, while simultaneously deepening my love for them and what could be, stole my breath.

Everything with Pax and Leah as they tried to wade through what they were really feeling, what could be between them, and what they could handle when they met the one person who could turn their entire world upside down, stole my breath.

And I’ve never been happier to not breathe in my entire life.

Pax and Leah are two characters that are permanently seared to my heart for the rest of time, and it is all because of what Rebecca Yarros so spectacularly gave me with them. She made them two of the most real, easy to love, honest and endearing characters I have ever read, and the more I got with them, the more I just willingly gave my heart to them both. Whether it was learning each of their backstories that explained so much about their presents, or whether it was what started to happen between these two as they got closer to one another, or whether it was seeing the effect they both had on each other, I was beyond enamored with them both.

Rebecca Yarros has a phenomenal talent with making her characters so easy to understand, love, and root for through everything that she gives with them, and Pax and Leah were no exception.

Getting to know the real Paxton, getting to see him and not just the Wilder persona he put out to the world, and getting to understand what was really driving him through it all, sent my heart right to that man a million times over in this book. It also didn’t hurt that he is one of the most charming and vibrant characters I have ever had the pleasure of reading. Paxton never failed to bring a smile to my face or make my heart beat just a bit faster, and getting to know the real him, getting to see him fall for someone and what that was actually like for him, and getting to be there as he put it all out on the line when it really mattered was nothing short of everything. It was sweet, it was heart meltingly good, and it was so him in the most distinctive way that will have you loving this renegade man in no time flat.

Now Leah’s character is one that my heart went to right from the start. That girl was so beyond easy to love and connect to, and the more I got of her, and the more I realized that there was so much that she had been through, the more that my heart connected with her. That girl is a fighter, through and through, and the tenacity and strength she has knows no bounds. She is the definition of a firecracker, and getting to be there as she discovered that spark within her once again, and as she realized what could be if she just kept fighting and took that leap of faith, was one of the most exhilarating, emotional, and unforgettable experiences I’ve had when reading a book. Simply put, Leah is a gem of a character, and her goodness will warm your heart and remind you of the literal amazingness that emanates from her.

Paxton and Leah’s story in Wilder is so many things. It’s full of exciting moments that will have you feeling like you’re right there with them, right in the thick of it, experiencing all of the magic and spark and adrenaline in the same breath they are. It’s emotional and raw and so full of intense feels at times that you will practically be bursting with so much for them, while these two try to see what could be. It’s also full of adventure and meaning and so much glorious fight. It exemplifies what it means to fight for yourself, to fight for what you want and crave and so desperately need, and what it really means fight with your entire being, to put it all on the line for the world to see, and what it means to pour your soul into a fight that will change everything.

Wilder was phenomenally written, exhilarating to read, and hands down one of the best books I have ever read. I also don’t think I’ve had as much fun reading a book in quite a bit of time, and the adventure and feelings and spark that Pax and Leah find themselves in in this book will have you rooting for those two with all that you have in no time flat. Trust me on that! I’m already itching for more from all of these characters, and I am beyond excited to see what Rebecca Yarros has in store for us as this series continues.

Whatever may come as this dynamic world continues, I have no doubt that it will be oh so real, oh so intense, and oh so unforgettable.

Wilder by Rebecca Yarros is the true definition of a good book. This book showed me again and again why I love this author, her words, and everything she so brilliantly crafts. This story and its characters reminded me again and again why I LOVE a good love story, and they exemplified what it means to read a love story that touches your very soul. The emotions and feelings and moments I got to live within this book reminded me again and again why this will be a top read of the year for me, and why I will never forget what it was like to read this book.

I said it before, and I’ll say it again…Wilder is everything. And then some. That is just a fraction of what makes it such an exceptional read that will light your heart on fire, melt and squeeze it again and again, while having you fall oh so hopelessly for what Paxton and Leah share. And it truly doesn’t get better than that.

One story. Two couples.

I fell in love with a man who didn’t exist.

What started out as romance ended in hell.

His words turned to razor blades.

His kisses converted to fists.

His embrace became my cage.

His body transformed into a weapon, stealing parts of me until ultimately….

I broke.

I hated him.

My sole job in life became to protect our daughter.

I wasn’t sure I’d ever escape the prison he’d skillfully crafted from my fears.

Until the day our savior arrived.

This is the story of how I escaped the man who thought he owned me.

The transfer of my life and my family.

My Review

*****5 Unforgettably Emotional Stars*****

Let me start this review by saying that if you reading this and you haven’t read Retrieval, the first book in this breathtakingly emotional and unforgettably intense duet, then you should not be reading this review. Like at all…So do not pass go, do not collect your two hundred dollars, and do not read this review until you have read and felt and lived and breathed every single word of Retrieval.

Okay? Okay.

I’m glad we go that out of the way. And really, you just can’t not read Retrieval. That book is everything, and how it leads into Transfer will give you chills, will steal the breath from your body, and will have you feeling every single emotion possible as you prepare to experience the consuming and unforgettable story that is Transfer.

Now let me tell you, to say that I needed this book like I needed my next breath, is putting it way too mildly. After the ending of Retrieval literally had me begging for more, I was beyond ready to see get back into this world with both of these couples. I needed to know what this next chapter would bring them, I needed to know what intense twist and emotional turn that next page would bring, and I needed to know how Aly Martinez would bring this unforgettable duet to a close.

I went into this book knowing that I would feel every word of it. I went into it all heart first knowing that Clare’s story and her emotional journey of escape would make me feel it all, that it would consume me within her struggles, and that it would pull at every ounce of emotion I had as she attempted to escape the hell that was her life. I went into this book knowing it would probably hurt my heart, and expecting it to send those feelings rushing through me like Niagara Falls because this is a book by Aly Martinez, and you just don’t read a book by this phenomenal author.

You feel it. You breathe it. You live it. You take it in and you let it consume you with all that it has. And you let it eviscerate you in a way because you know that that’s necessary to be with these characters, to understand them and their stories, and you know that you have to feel it all in order to get those characters where you so desperately need them to be.

I don’t know if any of that has ever been more true than what I felt reading Transfer. What I felt for Clare as she attempted to escape from Walter Noir’s evil hand, what I felt for Heath as he struggled with his own feelings, with his own duties, and with his own sense of right and wrong and where that line fell, and what I felt for the two of them as they were thrust together into an unimaginable situation that broke them, that made them, and that showed each other so much about themselves….well what I felt getting all of that is nothing short of everything.

That everything was raw. It was real. It was full of vulnerability, openness, and a journey of healing that was hard fought, unforgettably meaningful, and visceral to the nth degree. That everything tore open my heart for both Clare and Heath as they fought for what they both wanted, as they tried to determine what they could and couldn’t have, and as they realized that what they’d always wanted, what they so desperately craved, and what they needed to come full circle was standing there right in front of them.

From the very first page of Transfer, Aly Martinez threw me right into the thick of it with these two. She let me experience what it was like for them to realize what was really going on, what they were starting to feel, and what it was like for them to try to handle all of that. She let me feel what it was like for those two to share what they did, what it was like for them to realize that they wanted something more, and what it was like for them to get so damn close to having it all. She let me take in what the events of this book did to them, how it pushed them both, how it brought them both into their own, and how it took them through the ringer a bit, yet at the same time pushed them even closer to where they so desperately wanted and needed to be.

Through every single page of this all-consuming story, Aly Martinez put me with them as they fought and simultaneously fell as hard as they both could, and that, well that was nothing short of spectacular.

From the moment I met Clare’s character in Retrieval, I knew I needed more of her. I felt a connection and a deeply felt love for her character from that very first moment I met her, and that love became fiercer through every page of that story, and it just caught on fire and exploded once I got her story in Transfer. My love, adoration, and belief in that woman truly knows no bounds. What I felt for her, how much I believed in her, and how I felt so deeply connected to her is all a testament to what Aly Martinez so authentically created with her character. She bonded me to Clare.

She allowed me to get her, her journey, her struggles along the way. She allowed me to see a mother who would do anything for her child, for her love, for her old self that was ready to be awakened once again. She allowed me to understand Clare on the deepest and truest of levels, and she allowed me to know with every ounce of my being that even in the darkest of hours and even in the most dismal of situations, a true fighting flame can never be extinguished.

Along with Clare this book gave me Heath, and boy did it give me that man something fierce. It gave me his stubborn, stoic self, and it let me be there with him as one woman and her little girl slowly but surely infiltrated his heart with all that they had. Heath is a character my heart just belonged to from the instant I met him. Sure there were moments when I wanted to shake some sense into him and show him what he could have if he just reached out and took it, but through it all I loved that man with all I had. I loved what he felt, I loved how far he was willing to go when it really mattered, and at the end of the day I loved how everything he shared with Clare, and Tessa for that matter, brought him closer to being the man that I knew he could be.

Transfer is a story about so many things. It’s a story about how you build yourself back up after you feel as if every part of you has been taken. It’s a story about the level of fight that can consume you, heal you, and make you if you let yourself really feel it and take ahold of it. It’s a story about what happens when you meet that one person who changes everything, and sometimes that everything is a living hell, and sometimes it’s better than any paradise you can think of. It’s a story of what happens when two people end up on a path to one another, and how that path breaks them, strips them down of everything they think they know and feel, yet at the same time how that thrusts them both onto the exact path they needed to be on all along.

This book is the story of what happens when a woman who’s experienced more pain and heartache than anyone deserves, meets a man who fights himself as much as he does those around him, and the transfer of feelings and emotions and healing that takes place as they forget that new path together. This book exemplifies that while that new path might be scary, while it might take everything in you to keep yourself on that path and believing in where it could take you, and while it might strip you down to your very core, that path is worth it. So damn worth it.

Every page of Transfer emphasizes that notion, and every word of this book that is so breathtakingly emotional and thoughtfully crafted hits home the power, the meaning, and the journey of these characters and this story. Aly Martinez blew me away through every single page of this story. She took my heart, my mind, and my very soul, and she put it right in this story, just like she had with Retrieval. She continued my love for these characters, she solidified it and deepened it with every moment I got with them, and she put me with them all in the most authentic of ways as they all fought for that ending they all wanted to have.

Whether I was being mesmerized by this story, its exceptional crafting, and where it took these characters… Whether I was being consumed by every ounce of visceral spark, and heat, and unadulterated connection that seared these characters together… Whether I was being encapsulated within the intensity of this story, and the emotional twists and turns that every new page brought… Whether I was feeling it or experiencing it or living it all with these characters…

I felt this story. I loved this story. I got it all with this story and there are literally not enough words on the planet to accurately capture what it’s like reading Transfer and getting what you do within its unforgettable pages.

This book gave me it all. It was the perfect conclusion to this duet. It was the perfect follow up to the heartfelt love that grew and grew through every single page of Retrieval. It was the perfect, most intense, most all-feeling and breathtaking way to say goodbye to these characters that I will never forget, and I could not have asked for more.

There isn’t anything more than this book, than this duet, or than the dynamic and soul touching characters you find within their pages.

This book, this duet, this story…is everything. And then some. And that is just part of what makes them some of the best books I have ever read.

If you’re looking for a book you’ll feel, if you’re looking for a book that will move you, break you, and along the way try to put you back together again, and if you’re looking for a book that gives you all of the above and a little something extra that’ll make you blush and smile and fall harder than a brick over a ledge, then seriously, run yourself to this book and this duet this very second.

Do it. You will not regret it. And in fact, I think you’ll find it’s one of the best decisions you make today, or this week, or this month, or this year.

Transfer is that good. Retrieval is that good. This duet is that damn good…and I am telling you, you will never forget what this continuous, emotional, and completely memorable story will give you within its amazing pages.

I proposed on our first date.

She laughed and told me I was insane. Less than a day later, she said yes.

It was a whirlwind, but we were happy…

Until we got greedy and wanted a family.

It was a life I couldn’t give her, not for lack of trying. Fertility just wasn’t on our side. We sought out doctors and treatments. Spent money we didn’t have. Lied to our families. Smiled for our friends. Put on a brave face for a world that didn’t understand.

Finally, we were successful…

Until we were forced to bury our son.

We were left broken, battered, and destroyed.

They say love is in the details, but it was the details that ruined us.

This is the story of how I took back what had always been mine.

The retrieval of my wife and our family.

My Review

*****5 Utterly Unforgettable Stars*****

Let me start this review by saying there are many things I have come to know about myself in all my years of reading. I love me a good book, I love me a good love story even more, and I love me a good romantic suspense book something fierce. There is just something about that level of suspense and mystery being woven together so intricately with the passion and feels of a love story that I truly can’t get enough of. Romantic suspense is probably one of my top five favorite kinds of books to read.

When I found out that one of my all-time favorite authors was writing a romantic suspense duet, I shrieked. No really, I shrieked. It happened. Repeatedly. And it continued to happen through every single page of this amazing book (and Transfer too) because let me tell you something, Aly Martinez writes a damn good book. A. Damn. Good. Book. She exceptionally crafts books that are unforgettable, passionate, gripping, and deeply emotional, hit you in your heart, and steal your breath in the best kind of way books. You feel every single word of what she weaves together, and you don’t stop feeling until well after you’ve read the last word.

The way she weaves together her stories are just that impactful, that meaningful, and that visceral that you can’t stop feeling and experiencing and breathing and living them. And that is just a fraction of what makes her books so exceptional.

So when I found out that on top of everything else Aly Martinez gives me in her phenomenal books, I would be getting a story perfectly woven together with heart racing suspense, jaw dropping mystery, and such a raw intensity that shook me to my core, I shrieked.

I’m sure you understand the why behind that now.

Aly Martinez has such a way with words, with stories, and with characters that is truly in a league of its own. I can never get enough of any of her books, but that was especially true with Retrieval. This book took me. Heart, mind, and soul. It grabbed me with its power, its intensity, and everything it had. And I willingly gave myself over to it, and Roman and Elisabeth’s story from the first page. I don’t think it’s humanly possible to read their story in Retrieval and to not be taken by it.

This story is just too raw, too passionate, and too emotional to not be taken by everything within its amazing pages. I’m telling you, it’s impossible. There is no way you can experience Retrieval and everything you get with Roman and Elisabeth and not feel it, not live it, and not love every single bit of it.

Now since this book is a romantic suspense, I don’t want to reveal much of anything of the actual plot of the story because that would be oh so wrong, and it would take away from what this book, and its unputdownable story, will give you. I can’t ruin this story for you, and you honestly just need to go into it blind and give yourself over to it. Let yourself be consumed by every intense, all-feeling, and memorable moment and word of it. You won’t regret it. Not one little bit. (And in the end, you’ll be beyond thrilled that you gave yourself over to it. Trust me on that one.)

What I will tell you about Retrieval, besides the fact that this book is one of the best books I’ve ever read, is that it will pull at every single emotion you have. The prologue will make you cry. And then there will be so many other deeply emotional moments in this book that will make you cry, and feel all that emotion thick in your heart. Repeatedly. Roman and Elisabeth’s heart wrenching story will pull at every bit of your heart, will make you feel all the feels, and at times it will make you feel like you’re being torn into pieces. And then you’ll be torn again. And again. And again. You’ll feel it all with them, experience every ounce of fight and love and hate and pain and anguish those two share as they try to give it all a second chance.

You’ll feel all of that in your bones, in you’re very being really, and it will hurt, but you know what? It will hurt so damn good. It will break you, but as much as it breaks you, what Roman and Elisabeth share will try to put you back together again too. It will tear at your heart in more ways than one, but it’ll sear you to this story and the journey Roman and Elisabeth go on together even more, and soon that searing will have those torn pieces coming back together in the most mesmerizing and all-feeling of ways.

Retrieval is a story you feel every ounce of, and Aly Martinez brings those feels, the meaning behind them, and the power of it all to life in the most authentic, realistic, and encapsulating way through her perfect crafting of this story and Roman and Elisabeth’s characters.

Now let me tell you that this book isn’t just feels. I mean it’s a helluva lot of feels you’ll not soon forget, but it’s not just feels. It’s also hot. Heart meltingly, grab yourself a fan this very second, I’m as red as a tomato because I’m blushing so hard, hot. Seriously y’all, the heat, the visceral connection between Roman and Elisabeth, and everything they share, both past and present, will melt you in more ways than one. It will also shine brighter and dazzle you more than any fireworks you’ve ever experienced. There is just something about getting a second chance at it all that makes the connection between these two everything and more.

That connection will awe you, it will steal your breath at times, and it’ll have you blushing and possibly drooling throughout most of this book, and that along with the feels you get with Roman and Elisabeth on their journey back to one another, is nothing short of spectacular.

Roman and Elisabeth’s story in Retrieval is one of past regrets, second chances, and of a love so deep, so raw, and so real that it can’t be denied, no matter how hard these two might sometimes try to deny it or fight against it. It is a story of what happens when you pour every ounce of yourself over to the one person who can give you it all, if you only open yourself and your heart to them. This book is the definition of what it means to fight for the heart, the love, and the person who completes you.

Retrieval is a book filled to the brim with a passion so heated, a connection so undeniable, and a love so fierce, that nothing can stand in the way of the love and authentic investment you will feel towards Roman and Elisabeth, and their story together.

I truly think there is no way that you can read this story, and not be wholly consumed by it on every level possible. It is just that gripping, that breathtaking, and that intense that you won’t be able to stop. Every turn of that page will pull you deeper and deeper into the story itself, and what Roman and Elisabeth are sharing. As their story unfolds, and as you start to realize where this story is going, you will feel like your heart is beating out of your chest, you will be practically tearing at those pages to see what will happen next, and you will be feeling and living and breathing it all right along with Roman and Elisabeth and the other amazing characters of this story.

This is a story that will literally consume you from the first word until the very last, and when you reach that last page, you will be beyond ready for Transfer. Trust me on that one. (And just you wait for that book…because if you thought you loved Retrieval, wait until you get your greedy little hands on Transfer!)

Retrieval is everything and more wrapped up into one perfect, all-consuming, and unforgettable package.

It’s a second chance romance that will have you hoping with all of your heart that Roman and Elisabeth will find a way back to one another with their undeniable heat and soul touching love. It’s a story wrought with the best kind of intrigue and suspense and mystery that will literally have you on the edge of your seat, shrieking and gasping audibly from the surprises in store, and will have your heart on fire through every single page. It’s a story you will feel and experience every word of too, and it will have you realizing again and again how talented Aly Martinez is to have created a world, a story, and a set of characters so dynamic, so unforgettable, and so consuming as these ones.

Simply put, Retrieval is the book you need in your life this very second, and I truly can’t tell you that enough. Whether it’s Roman’s distinctive charm and determination, or Elisabeth’s easy to love fire and sass that will sear her to your heart to hers, or the perfect mixture of romance, suspense, feels, and jaw dropping moments galore, this book will give you it all. And then some. It will touch every part of your mind and your heart, and your very soul too, and in the end, you will be completely blown away with what you got within its pages.

Retrieval is the more you’ve been looking for, and it is the perfect opening to this duet. Aly Martinez knocks it out of the park in every single way with this book and her spectacular writing, and the way that this story leads into Transfer, the final book of this duet, will have you needing that book in your life something fierce. Trust me.

You will love this book. You will feel it. You will be taken with everything it gives you, right along with Roman and Elisabeth, and it will mesmerize you in more ways than one. You will be in awe of what Aly Martinez gives you within this book’s pages.

Retrieval is definitely one of the most intense, all-feeling, and captivating books I have ever read, and this book is going straight to the top of my Top Reads list for 2016. (And after you experience it for yourself, it’ll be at the top of yours too.) You need this book and this duet in your life like you need your next breath, and I am telling you, you will love it.

I dare you to not be completely blown away by every exceptional aspect of this book, and honestly at this point I just want to go back and reread it all over again, just so that I can get back within its literal amazingness. (I also really miss Roman and Elisabeth already. Like a lot.)

Retrieval is that good, that unforgettable, and that powerfully intense of a book, and you need to read it this very second.

Excerpt

“Where’d you get beer?” Elisabeth asked as she scrambled from the couch.

“Seth,” I replied, hanging my head and rubbing my eyes.

Jesus, I’d wanted to kiss her. She was being a bitch, spouting shit she didn’t mean just because she was too scared to let me in.

But, even through it, those plump lips were calling to me.

I’d never been able to resist that woman. Despite that we’d fallen apart, it hadn’t changed. The hum for her was still in my veins. It never went away, but for two years, it had been dormant. I’d packed it down so tightly that I’d hoped it had died. But, with one look, my body began thrumming like a live wire.

“Seth?” she asked as she bent over to straighten her tight, black pencil skirt.

It was a rare occasion to catch Elisabeth in something other than a perfectly pressed skirt and a pair of heels. But she’d been sleeping all day. It was wrinkled all to hell and back. The only thing her efforts succeeded in was drawing my attention down to her legs.

Legs that had spent many nights wrapped around my hips as she came while crying my name.

Shit. I should go.

But, after the way she’d latched on to me that morning, I wasn’t going anywhere.

“My assistant,” I answered. “I had him pick you up a bottle of wine, too.”

She blinked. “You have an assistant? Who delivers you beer? And your ex-wife wine?”

“No, I have an assistant who does whatever the fuck I need him to do. And, luckily for us, beer and wine happen to fall into the whatever-the-fuck-I-need-him-to-do category tonight.” She fought back a smile as I finished, “So do gyros.”

“Damn. I need to get one of those,” she mumbled to herself.

I smirked. “Cash my checks and you could afford one.”

It was a dick move, bringing up the money right then. But, despite her expert hand in decorating, that little starter house we’d bought with rose-colored glasses now needed a shit-ton of work.

Her back shot ramrod straight, fury crinkling the corners of her eyes as she snarled, “I’m not cashing your checks.”

I shrugged. “Guess you’ll have to figure out how to get your own wine and dinner after tonight.”

“I think I can manage,” she fired back.

“Suit yourself.” I pushed off the couch and meandered to the kitchen.

I went to the fridge and leaned in, searching for anything I could snack on. With the exception of at least a dozen Tupperware containers, she didn’t have much in the way of a quick bite.

Snagging a handful of grapes from the drawer, I made a mental note to send Seth to the grocery store after he’d delivered dinner.

Popping the grapes in my mouth one by one, I felt her watching me in what could only be defined as silent awe. I decided my best move would be to ignore it. “You know, I should have invented Tupperware. You alone could keep me in business,” I told her, retrieving a beer and then shutting the door.

She scoffed then muttered, “At least then I would have benefitted from you abandoning our marriage.”

Lava fresh off the volcanoes in Hell boiled in my veins.

I cocked my head to the side and questioned, “I’m sorry. Come again?”

“You should go,” she snapped.

Think a-fucking-gain.

“Nah, I’m good. Got any movies?”

I tipped the bottle to my lips, doing my best to calm the storm brewing within me, all while still fighting the desire to take her to the floor, plant myself between her legs, and remind her how that fucking attitude affected me.

Clearly, she had forgotten.

My cock had not.

“Roman, it’s been a crazy day. Please don’t do this tonight.”

“Do what?” I asked, leaning back against the huge, granite island.

She threw her hands out to the sides in frustration. “What you always do.”

“What do I always do, Lissy?”

“This!” she yelled.

I frowned and took another pull from my beer. “Haven’t been in our kitchen, drinking beer, in a long time. I hardly think it’s fair to say I always do it.”

Her eyes nearly bulged from her head. “My kitchen, Roman. This is my kitchen. Not ours. And you know good and damn well that is not what I’m talking about.”

My lips twitched as I pointed the neck of my bottle at her. “No. What I know good and damn well is that I have no idea what the fuck you are talking about. Or why you’re slinging unnecessary and, might I add, undeserved attitude at me like a short-order cook at the bitch house.”

“He did not say that to me,” she whispered to herself.

When I lifted a shoulder in a half shrug, she swung a pointed finger toward the door and yelled, “Get out!”

I grinned, crossing my legs at the ankle. “You always were cranky when you were hungry.”

And that was the exact moment her head exploded.

My Review

**** 4.5 Emotional and All-Feeling Protector Stars!****

It is no secret that I am a lover of all things Jodi Ellen Malpas, so when I found out she was publishing a new standalone book, my grabby hands came out something fierce. To say that I have loved each and every one of this phenomenal author’s books is not doing her words the immense amount of justice they each deserve. All six of her previous books, have given me completely consuming reading experiences, wrought with thought out emotion and dynamic characters that steal my heart again and again. Her books represent some of my all-time favorites, and the characters and stories she’s given me over the years will stay with me forever in some way, shape, or form.

I went into The Protector knowing that this book would be a tad different than her others because it was a standalone rather than a series, but I knew that Jodi Ellen Malpas would weave together something I would feel every ounce of, something I would love unconditionally, and something I wouldn’t soon forget.

After reading and experiencing every word of this book, all I can say is that my predictions for this book were completely on point because what she gave me within the pages of this book is why I LOVE romances, why I LOVE her book so fiercely, and why and I can’t get enough of what she creates through her all-feeling writing. The Protector was a story that completely took ahold of me from the very first pages, and had me encapsulated in it all with Jake and Camille and their romantic, emotional, and suspenseful story.

While I went into this book not necessarily knowing what to expect, I found myself once again completely taken within a memorable story with wonderfully distinctive characters that found themselves seared to my heart in no time flat. Woven together with Jodi Ellen Malpas’s outstanding and thoughtfully crafted writing, The Protector came to be a story I lived, loved, and felt every word of. This is a story of past and pain, and more hurt than you can shake a stick at, but how when you finally see that light and hope for the first time in your life, it can bring you it all, as long as you let yourself grab onto it. From beginning to end, The Protector had me within its pages experiencing everything it had to offer, and I truly can’t say enough how much I enjoyed it.

What I loved about The Protector:

  • Jake Sharp and his overcoming of the past. Jake Sharp is a force to be reckoned with. That man is fierce, strong, and he knows what he wants and what he doesn’t need. The beginning of this story finds him doing whatever he can to halt the feelings and attractions he’s feeling towards Camille, but soon that man must face what he feels towards her, and the past that keeps him from going for it all. Jodi Ellen Malpas completely creates his backstory and pain filled past, and that will send your heart to him through every turn of the page. She puts you with him as he attempts to come to terms with what he feels, how his past still affects him, and what he needs to do if he ever hopes to find closure and move on. Every moment of this book with him made me love and feel for him more, and the strong, protective presence that emanates from him will melt you again and again. Trust me on that one.
  • Camille Logan and her fiery self. Camille Logan is no wilting flower. She also isn’t some privileged brat who expects the world to come to her. She is a fiercely independent young woman, hell bent on showing the world who she is and what she can be, and the on the thing she knows is that she doesn’t need a bodyguard looking after her. From the moment she meets Jake she pushes against him and his presence in her life, but the more time they spend together, the more she starts feeling this undeniable pull to the one man she tells herself she doesn’t want. Getting to be with Camille and experiencing her fire come out over the course of this story was nothing short of spectacular, and it revealed so much about her character. Her tenacity, her own strength that shines through every page of the story, and how that leads her to opening her determined heart towards a man who is still reeling from a painful past, had me loving every bit of her even more and realizing again and again why she is such a dynamic and wonderful character.
  • The connection that can’t be beat. Jodi Ellen Malpas sure knows how to create a connection between two characters, and how to make is so palpable that you feel it in your bones while reading. The connection between Jake and Camille gets off to an interesting start, and as much as these two feel it, they fight against it just as much too because they’re not ready to give into it. Yet through everything that comes their way in this story that connection strengthens and becomes more and more tangible. It soon consumes the two of them something fierce to the point where neither of them can deny it. What that leads them to share is full of heat, all-feeling connection, and more emotion than your heart can take. What you get with Jake and Camille as they try to figure out what they’re sharing, where it will lead them, and what it could bring them if they actually open themselves up to it is everything and more, and you will love every word of it.
  • Romantic suspense for the win! Romantic suspense stories are some of my favorites. There is just something about how a love story is combined with that mystery and suspense that really has me loving how in the story I become and what I get with the story’s characters along the way. After reading The Protector, I have to say that Jodi Ellen Malpas definitely has a knack for romantic suspense, and the way she weaves that mystery into the story makes this story all the more consuming and all the more unputdownable. She not only connects you into everything that Camille and Jake share, she puts you in it with them as they face the threats they do, and as that puts their hearts and their very lives at stake. I loved every moment of suspense and mystery I got within this story, and it added a well thought out and adrenaline pumping level to everything I was experiencing with them. It invested me even more in what I was reading and getting with Jake and Camille, and had me even more in what I was reading with them as they tried to see what they could share together.
  • Writing you feel every ounce of. Jodi Ellen Malpas never fails to craft a story with words that are powerful, meaningful, and beautifully laced with authentic and all-feeling emotion. The Protector was no different. The level of emotion, the level of romance, and the level of meaningful moments she gave me with these character knew no bounds. Her words completely captured and created everything that Camille and Jake shared. Those words took me through it all with them from start to finish, and along the way she allowed me to fall so damn hard for them and everything they shared. She made their feelings and connection beyond real, she made their characters ones that I loved with my whole heart, and through it all, she gave me them at their most honest, real, and vulnerable as they saw what they might be able to share together…and it truly doesn’t get better than that.

There really is nothing like a book by Jodi Ellen Malpas. The talent of her words truly know no bounds, and every time I read one of her books, I become completely entranced by everything she gives me with her characters. She makes every word, every emotion and feeling, and every moment of her books beyond real, beyond consuming, and beyond authentic, and that sets her books in a league of their own. She is one of my all-time favorite author’s, and reading this book reinforced that notion again and again.

The Protector was a story of romance, suspense, and heart, and what happens when two people from two very different walks of life, find themselves of the same path feeling a world of spark and connection towards each other. It follows them through every gripping and emotional up and down and twist and turn as they try to figure it all out, and as they see what the light might bring them and their hearts, if they only reach out and take it with all that they have. Their story isn’t easy and it isn’t always roses and sunshine, but through it all, what Jake and Camille share will pull at your heart and all your feelings as they try to make it all work and as they give into what they could be together.

This book was good. So damn good. It is a testament to Jodi Ellen Malpas’s talented writing and storytelling. It was a story that consumed me from beginning to end, and I really can’t say enough good things about it. What I got with Jake and Camille through their heart melting and pounding story was everything and more, and I loved every moment I got with them as they gave it all a go. You will too. Trust me on that.

My Review

****4.5 Emotionally Unforgettable Stars****

As a reader, I love to feel the books I read. I want to feel like I’m in those books, with those characters, living and breathing and experiencing it all with them, while feeling and connecting to all of the emotion behind what I’m experiencing with them. Getting those true and authentic feelings with characters while I read is what I live for as a reader, and when I come across a book that gives me that and more, I shout my love for that book from the proverbial rooftops.

This is my shouting my love for this book from the rooftops.

Undisputed by A.S. Teague was an utterly phenomenal debut novel that I loved every single word of. After reading the blurb of this book, I went into it thinking I was going to get a romance with some serious fight and some serious feels. Well I definitely got that and then some in this completely magnificent book. I got the fight and the drive and the sheer determination of these characters. I also got a helluva lot of feels that pulled at my heart on every single page of this book, along with a love story that exemplified what happens when you meet that one person who changes everything.

This book was well written, had engaging and memorable characters that completely charmed their way into my heart, and it had the level of authentic and all-feeling emotion that I crave when I read. Undisputed had so much to love within its pages, and whether this story was making me laugh with the charm and antics of the personalities within this book, or fall so hopelessly right along with these characters, or bringing tears to my eyes with all that they went through, I loved what it so phenomenally gave me.

Undisputed is the definition of a good, wholly enjoyable, and all around fantastic and fulfilling read, and it is one that I know I won’t soon forget. What I got within the pages of this book was a story of fight, feels, and true, honest to goodness love, and the completely life changing and upending things that can happen when you have all three. Breccan and Sidney’s journey and evolution together in Undisputed is real, completely enrapturing on every level, and honest in the most heart melting way.

What I loved about Undisputed:

  • Holy hell of a debut novel. Let me start this rest of this review by saying had I not known this was A.S. Teague’s debut novel, I would have never guessed that it was. Her emotionally laced writing, her thoughtfully crafted storytelling, and the dynamic characters she created screamed like they were coming from a seasoned pro of a writer who’d published many books. This author has a true talent, and the way she completely put me in this book whole heartedly with these characters and everything they experienced connected me to this story in every way, and made it so enrapturing that I had to know what would happen next. I couldn’t stop reading and feeling every bit of this story, and the way that A.S. Teague brought these characters, their personalities, and their journeys to life felt so completely real, which invested me in them so so much.
  • Not your average fighter romance. I am a huge lover of sports romances in general, and I have read my fair share of fighter romances, so I knew that I would most likely love getting to experience being with Breccan and his passion for MMA. But I think what I loved the most about this book, and especially Breccan, was that the fight in this love story wasn’t just inside of that ring. I not only got to experience what drove Breccan to fight, what it was like for him to fight in that ring, and why he wanted the things he did so badly, I got to experience what it was like for him outside of the ring too. Over the course of this novel you get to see Breccan at his most vulnerable, you get to see how that fight outside the ring starts to take precedence over what’s happening in that ring, and A.S. Teague puts you with him through every emotionally gripping moment of that. I loved getting to experience that with him, and that completely sent my heart to him, while simultaneously showing me the meaning behind everything that man was fighting for in this story.
  • The evolution of Breccan and Sidney. Breccan and Sidney are two characters who couldn’t be more opposite if they tried. He loves to go out, and she is a homebody who is perfectly comfortable on the couch catching up on Netflix. She’s a bit of a control freak in a fun and easy to love way, while he is a go with the flow kind of guy that might be getting a little bit too lax on some of his choices. Neither of them is looking for anything serious, but after a turn of events sets them on a path to one another, they can’t help but be swept up in one another. Over the course of Undisputed you get to go along with both Breccan and Sidney as they start to evolve a bit, and as they start to really feel and determine what it is that they want, what they really need, and what’s truly important to them. I loved getting to be there through every phenomenal step of the way as these two pushed each other to want more, fight more, and try more, and experiencing what it was like for these two to journey together was everything. It was emotional, it was believable, and it felt right for them. Even in the moments when my heart broke for them and everything they experienced on that evolution, I knew that those two were on the right path to exactly where they needed to be, and I connected and felt with them through all of that because of what A.S. Teague gave me with them.
  • A love worth fighting for. The love and connection that Breccan and Sidney share in Undisputed exemplifies what it means to have a love worth fighting for. What those two grow to share, how they overcome the hurdles that come their way in this book, and how they give it their damndest to fight to where they want to be with one another will sear your heart to them. A.S. Teague completely allows you to understand their characters, to understand where their fears and doubts and hesitancies come from, and she allows you to be there with them as they attempt to make it work and fight for that undeniable connection they share. How these two affect one another, how they push each other to be more, and how their passionate and spark filled feelings emanate from the pages of this book will have you loving and rooting for them with all that you have. Trust me on that.
  • Feels and feels and more feels. As I said, I love to feel the books that I read. I love to feel as if I am right there with them through it all, understanding and experiencing every lick of emotion they do, and I got that through every single extraordinary page of Undisputed. I felt what Breccan experienced as he started to realize and feel that Sidney was someone who would change everything. I felt what it was like for Sidney to pour her heart over to something unknown and how life starting that was. I experienced what it was like for each of these characters to feel the emotional toll and journey, along with every ounce of feeling and emotion that came with this story and its events. I was there with them in the highest of highs, the lowest of lows, and in some moments that broke and melted my heart more times than I could count. I felt it all. I lived it all. I understood it all. And that is a true testament to what A.S. Teague so wonderfully created in this book.

Undisputed was an outstanding and memorable story about many things. It was a story about fight. The fight in the ring, the fight for what you feel and want and so desperately need, and the fight of the heart that happens when you meet that one person who changes it all. It was a story of powerful emotion. What that emotion can bring you, how it can break you and open you up in ways you never knew possible, yet heal you in the same beat too. It was a story of life and love too. How the two of those things can weave together to create something truly meaningful, heart squeezing, and unforgettable.

This is a story of what happens when two characters are placed on a path they never thought they’d be on, yet can’t seem to get off of no matter how hard they might try. It shows what happens through every emotional up and down and twist and turn along that path, and it puts you on that path right alongside them as they journey through it all. It shows them, and you, that with the right people, a true emotional and heartfelt connection, and with that one person who changes the game, that path can lead you to some of the most extraordinary places of your life.

Through it all, even in the moments when that path attempts to hurt and break these characters just a bit (or a lot), you know that it is so beyond worth it because of everything it so authentically gives them and their hearts. And that is worth all the fight in the world.

Undisputed was a story that encapsulated a love story full of fight, meaningful emotion, and an undeniable connection between two people that couldn’t be denied. Told through phenomenal writing, with fantastic supporting characters, this book gave me a story and two characters I know I won’t soon forget. I loved every single moment of this book, what it gave me along the way, and how it opened my heart to everything Breccan and Sidney shared.

A.S. Teague hit it out of the park with this debut novel, and I have no doubt that I will love whatever she writes next. Fingers crossed that next book happens sometime soon because I truly can’t wait for more from this new author!

— EXCERPT —

I’m nervous about what I’m going to say. I’m not sure how she’ll react or if she will even believe me. Afraid I’ll chicken out, though, so I start talking.

“I’m sorry.” The words were surprisingly hard to get out. Apologizing is not something I’ve done often, and I’m not even sure I know how to do it properly.

Sidney raises her eyebrows and presses her lips together. I study her face for any indication of what she’s thinking and notice that her eyes are pink and puffy, like she’s been crying.

The guilt I’ve recently begun experiencing returns. I’m sure I’m the reason for her tears, and the thought of her crying because of me kills. I cup her jaw in my hand before lightly rubbing her cheek with my thumb.

Her eyelids flutter shut and she sighs while tilting her face into my palm. Her reaction gives me the fuel I need to keep going. I pull my hand away, but I’m not ready to stop touching her, so I grab her hand.

“I’m an asshole, Sid. I’ve always been a selfish prick. I’ve never had anyone care about me though, so I’ve always had to be the one to care about me the most. I’m used to doing what I want, getting what I want, and taking what I want. I don’t know how to care about others.” I scrub my palm over my thigh.

“That’s not true, Breccan. I’ve seen you—”

I cut her off with a shake of my head. “I’m a virgin, Sidney,” I say solemnly.

A short burst of laughter escapes her mouth, and she shakes her head. “Yeah, right, Breccan. Do I have ‘dumbass’ stamped on my forehead?” She laughs again.

I rush to explain myself. “Well, I mean, not a virgin virgin. I’m a relationship virgin. I don’t know what the fuck I’m doing here. Hell, I had more finesse the first time I had sex than I do with this whole boyfriend thing.”

Her eyes widen at the word boyfriend, but she only says, “Oh.” Then she takes her hand from mine and brings her thumb to her mouth to chew on the nail.

Disappointed at the loss of contact with her skin, I pull her hand out of her mouth and lace my fingers through hers once again. “After you left, I went to my favorite club.” I purposely leave the part about destroying my kitchen out. “I couldn’t even get out of the car, Sidney. I sat there staring at the people dying to get inside and all I could think about was that I was dying to get out of that life. I don’t want to go to the clubs anymore. I’m tired of that shit. I just want to be with you. Here. On this couch. Eating fucking sushi if that’s what you want.”

I grimace, and she giggles.

It’s the fucking truth. Sitting in my car outside of Raw, all I could think about was how desperately I wanted to feel Sidney’s lips on mine and have her scent in my nose. I would have gladly choked down a pound of that crap if it meant I could go back and undo our fight and what I’d said.

“I’m sorry I freaked out when you called yourself my girlfriend.”

Her face falls.

I use my free hand to tip her chin up before I confess, “I don’t know how to do this. I have nothing to compare this to.” I use my hand to gesture between us. “But I can tell you that I want you. I want to hear you laugh. I want to make you smile. I want to hold you when you cry.” I run my thumb across her cheek. “I can tell you that I need you. I need your mouth on mine, your hair in my hands, your skin under my fingertips” Taking a chance, I lean in and place a light kiss on her lips.

She doesn’t pull away, so I continue speaking.

“I can tell you that no one else makes me laugh the way you do. No one else makes me feel stronger than you do. I miss you all the fucking time, Sid. Every minute of the day that I’m not with you, I’m dying to see you. My phone dings and I hope it’s you. When it’s not, I’m always so fucking bummed.” Lifting my shoulders in a shrug, I admit, “I’ve never felt this way about another person before, and I’m fumbling around like a kid trying to cop his first feel in the dark. I didn’t realize until tonight that I want you to be my girlfriend. I want to do all the cheesy couple things that people do—with you. And, Sidney, I’m really sorry I didn’t remember you from the club. I don’t know how I could have possibly forgotten you. But it’s not because you are forgettable. Because, ever since you fell down your fucking stairs, I haven’t been able to get you out of my head. And I don’t want to.” I blow out a breath when I finish and glance away from her penetrating gaze.

My Review

*****5 Unforgettable Family Justice Stars*****

When I sit down to read a book by Suzanne Halliday, there are many things I know that I am going to get within that book’s phenomenal pages. I know I will get a story that is well written, thoughtfully crafted, and that will sweep me up into its grasp from page one with Suzanne’s extraordinary writing magic. I know that I will get dynamic characters that are so wonderfully distinctive and easy to connect to. I also know that I won’t just be reading this story, I’ll be experiencing every word of it. I’ll feel everything these characters do, I will live through that book with them, and in the end I will close that book with the biggest smile on my face because of what I got to experience within its pages.

When I sat down to read Unchained, the fourth book in her Family Justice Saga, I knew that I would get all of that and more, and boy did this book blow me away with everything it had.

Unchained is a story full of family and friends, loyalty and connection, heat and passion, so many memorable moments that are so distinctive to these characters and their world, and more emotion and feels than you can shake a stick at. From the moment I started this book I could not put it down, and I could not stop experiencing every ounce of this book with these characters. Told through multiple points of view, Unchained gives you the fantastic opportunity to jump into the heads of everyone that makes up Family Justice, and I am telling you, you will not be disappointed one bit by what you get with all of them.

To say I have loved and enjoyed reading all of Suzanne Halliday’s books is putting it mildly. To say that I have loved the Justice Brothers is the understatement of the century because let me tell you, once those Justice Brothers, their fierce special lady friends, and their loyal and charming as all get out friends that make up the rest of the family get ahold of you, you will never want to say goodbye to them. Ever. Seriously, I don’t think I will ever get enough of them, their journeys together, and how special and memorable this family, these characters, and their respective intertwining stories are.

Over the course of this series I have gotten to meet and fall in love with each and every one of these characters and the people who fill in the Justice Family puzzle, and I have since become wholly invested in every way possible with all of them. I love these characters. I feel for them. I hope for them. I root for them with all I have. The more I get with them, the more I love them with every piece of my heart, and the more that I just bask in every second I get to spend with them.

Suzanne Halliday gives you the phenomenal opportunity to not only fall in love with these characters, she allows you to see them through so much. She allows you to see them at their highest and lowest. She lets you feel their struggles, and she lets you be there in their moments of glorious triumph. She puts you with them all, heart first, living and breathing and feeling it all, and that leads to an undeniable level of connection and investment to this world and its unforgettable characters.

I have to say that the level of investment I feel with these characters and this world is probably one of my favorite aspects of reading this series. It’s also what has made me love this series so immensely. From the start I have been with these characters through everything that came their way, and then as their stories continued in the Family Justice Series, I became even more whole heartedly invested in everything that they shared together. This series gives you the unique opportunity to not only fall in love with these characters and their respective stories, it also allows you to see how all of those extraordinary stories weave together to create a saga unlike any other.

I am telling you, you will love these characters, you will love how much fight and loyalty and love they have bursting from them, and you will love every single distinctive and unforgettable piece they add to the puzzle that is this story and this exceptional series.

The events of Unchained pick up a bit after we left the Justice Family gang in Sanctuary, and takes you from the desert to the city to everywhere in between with everyone in tow. In this book, everyone is back, and every couple in this series has some new things to face and figure out, along with some new characters and faces that you will love getting to know. Now I won’t tell you too much about this story because I wouldn’t want to ruin the true magic that it gives you with all of these characters, but what I will tell you is be prepared for some twists and turns, some seriously unforgettable moments, and tons more Justice Family wonderfulness that will have you wanting to live out in the desert with them all in no time flat.

This chapter in the Justice Family Saga brings about a lot of changes for almost every single character and person who makes up this fantastic family. You have new jobs, new places to live, new feelings, new relationships, and new questions all woven together seamlessly with the love stories between these characters that I have come to know and love. Suzanne Halliday does an exceptional job of balancing all of these storylines, bringing them together, and creating such a sense of family and connection and love through every page. And though it isn’t always easy for those in the Justice Family, and many of these characters face some trying times in this book and with each other and with their own journeys, it is all highly worth it to get everything you do with them in this book.

Unchained will allow you once again to jump right into the thick of it with Meghan and Alex, Cam and Lacey, Drae and Tori, Calder and Stephanie, Parker and Angelina, Brody and Heather, and will give you a wonderful dose of Finn and Remy too, and through it all you will feel like one of the gang.

I have to say that I loved getting to know those new faces, just as much as I loved being around the ones I’ve already come to know and love. Finn and Remy definitely have some fire to them, and there’s definitely something there between those two that bursts from the page every time they’re together. And while the two of them might not always get along, every moment with them is interesting, memorable, and full of that spark…and I honestly can’t wait to get more of them as their story continues.

Not to be outdone by the new kids on the block, all the rest of the gang of Family Justice will remind you over and over again why you love them all so much. You will fall back in love with their distinctive charm, how much they love and feel for one another, and just how far they are willing to go for those they love. Every moment you get with this family will pull at your heart in more ways than one, and I honestly can’t tell you enough how much I loved and felt this chapter of their story with all of them.

You will laugh and smile right along with these characters and the shenanigans that they get into. You will cry and have a heavy heart with them as they face what comes their way too. You will feel the absolute joy and love that they experience as new things come their way and as they continue to share moments full of love, laughter, and life with each other. You will jump for joy at times with them, and want to hug them harder at others, and through it all you will be with them as they show what family, love, and undying friendship are all about. (And just wait until you figure out how that cover connects into it all…cue heart melting.)

If you have loved this series and getting to know these characters, then I am telling you that you will love and enjoy every word of this book with them. Your love for these characters will deepen, your excitement for what’s to come will exponentially grow, and in the end you will realize how literally amazing this series, its characters, and their journeys within it, truly are.

Unchained was a phenomenal addition to the Family Justice Saga, and through it all I was reminded over and over again why I LOVE this series, its characters, and Suzanne Halliday’s writing so much. This series also continues to remind me again and again why I love series so much in the first place. The level of investment and connection you get with every single character in this series puts these books in a league of their own, and I truly can’t say enough how much I have loved reading every word of them. This book continued that love, and I have no doubt that any more books in this series will have that love growing even more.

If you love an extraordinary story full of love, family, and friendship, and the life changing, heart melting, and all-feeling things that can happen when you have all three, then you need this book and this series in your life. As I sit here writing this review, all I can think about is how much I love these characters with all that I have, and how much Suzanne Halliday has continued to give me unforgettable reading experiences with her amazing characters within this series, along with her other books. I can’t wait for where this series will take these characters, and I have no doubt that Suzanne Halliday will rock my world with whatever comes next for all of them!

Unchained is the whole package, and it is a book you will love. Trust me. There is no way you can read this book and experience what you do with these characters, and not love it, so get to reading it this very instant because the Justice Family is the best and they’re waiting for you.

My Review

*****5 Unforgettably Reggie & Nora Stars*****

When you’re a reader, there are many kinds of books you come across. There are some books you read. There are some books you whole heartedly enjoy every word of. There are some books you know you’ll never forget too. There are some books that make you laugh, or cry, or feel angry, or some combination of all three. There are some books that hurt you just as much as it hurts the characters in the story, and there are many books out there that put you back tsdogether again right along with its characters.

Then every once and awhile, you find a book that gives you all of that. All of that, and more. You find a book that you experience every word of. A book that literally takes ahold of you in every way possible, and doesn’t let you go. Ever. Books like that sweep you up within their literal amazingness, pull you in with everything they have, and let you live and feel and breathe the gamut of emotions and moments they have to offer with their characters. These are the books that affect you, that change you, and that give you a reading experience you didn’t even know you needed.

These are the books you truly never forget. The books that move you, that break you only to put you back together in a way you didn’t know was possible, and these are the books that give you it all.

They check every box, they give you everything and the kitchen sink, and in the end they give you a story that was worth feeling everything for, that was worth giving everything to, and that was so worth every lick of investment you gave it and its characters.

Books like that are what I love. Books like that are what I live for. Books like that are why I am a reader.

Knot by M. Mabie is a book like that. It’s a book like that and more. So much more.

It’s a book that you feel, a book that you breathe and take in every word of, and a book that you experience every single second of right along with its dynamic characters. This is a book that will have you within its pages, experiencing every moment of its phenomenal, viscerally emotional, and pulse racing story, as you invest yourself in every way possible in what it’s giving you.

If you think you’ve experienced angst, wait until you read Knot and want to equally throw your e-reader across the room, scream at the top of your lungs in adamant love and frustration, all while simultaneously wanting to hug the book closer to you, as if that will somehow get you closer to these characters and all their feels.

If you think you’ve experienced an undeniably heated and emotional connection between two characters, wait until you read this story and get your hands on Reggie and Nora and all that they will give you. Wait until they make you cry or laugh or melt or swoon or break into a million pieces, and then break those broken pieces of your heart even more. Just. You. Wait. You have never felt a book as much as you will with this one. Trust me on that one.

If you think you’ve experienced a love between two characters that’s worth fighting for, a love worth giving everything to, and a love worth investing everything in, wait until you read this book and are thrown right into the thick of it with these two. That love you get with them will make you and break you and pull at every emotion you didn’t even know you had, just as it does with Reggie and Nora, and through all of that you will be right there with them, in the thick of it, fighting and trying and giving it your all, in hopes that it might work out.

If you think you’ve read a book like this one, think again my friend, and just wait until you experience every wickedly sensual, heart wrenchingly emotional, and exceptionally written word of this book.

Told through the words of M. Mabie’s breathtaking and emotionally laced writing, Knot is a story of what happens when two people, who are seemingly opposite in so many ways, can’t help but be drawn back to one another. It’s a story of second chances and third chances and so many more chances, all of which you will feel in your bones while reading. It’s a story of what happens when two people share a connection so fierce, so alluring, and so life changing that they can’t seem to fight or stay away from it, no matter how much it hurts, and no matter how much they know they will never be the same after experiencing a connection like that.

Knot is a love story about two people who have just about broken each other’s hearts more times than they can count, but trust me they’re really counting, and how despite what they do to one another, they can’t help but be drawn back to each other and that fierce connection they share. This is a story about what happens when you meet the one person who changes everything, when you meet that one person who tilts your world’s axis, and who makes you see and feel and experience everything differently…and ultimately how that equally tears you apart as much as it puts you back together again.

This is a story of what happens before, during, and after a love and heartbreak so strong, so fierce, and so unforgettable that you’re changed permanently. This is a story of what that love and heartbreak can give you, what it can take away, and what it will ultimately leave you with. This is a story of two people, their love, their fight, and their undeniable connection that tears them apart a little more each day, yet at the same time, puts them back together again too.

This is their story. Reggie and Nora’s. How they push each other to places they never thought they’d be, how they break each other and themselves along the way, and how they handle everything that comes to them as they try to figure out what the hell to feel, to think, and to do with all that they share.

Their story is messy and complicated and full of the flaws that threaten every emotion they have, but it’s them. It’s them and it works so damn well because it’s so them. It’s intense, it’s all-feeling, and it’s raw and uneasy to say the least too. There will be so many moments while reading when you’ll need to take a deep breath and just sit there for a hot second because you’ll be that consumed by every feeling and emotion they’re experiencing and sharing. You’ll feel that lump of emotion in your throat for Nora and Reggie, and it will make you think and feel of little else besides them while you’re enraptured within their story. There will be moments when you’ll be tearing up so much and when you will feel your heart literally ache for these two because of all that they’re sharing, all that they’re giving to one another, and how they’re equally breaking as much as they’re coming together.

All of that is what makes this book so good. All of that is what makes this book so emotional and raw and real. All of that is what makes this book so unforgettable.

Knot is their story of love and hate, and every single emotion that comes in between. It is a story you feel every breath and word and emotion of, and let me tell you, even when it hurts, it hurts so damn good.

Their story isn’t easy, and it isn’t for the faint of heart, but it’s worth it. So damn worth it. And I am telling you, this is a book you need in your life. It will hurt you, it will make you, and it will give you it all if you let it, and that is just a fraction of what makes it so exceptional.

To say I was ready for this book is probably the understatement of the century. I have wanted and needed Reggie Warren’s story in my life since I met him in Bait almost two years ago. That is where I met and fell in love with him, and to say I loved that man something fierce it putting it too mildly. That is also when I got my first taste of Nora, and let me tell you, while I have never dipped my foot in the lady pond, I have a serious lady crush on that girl. Seriously.

Nora is the best. So is Reggie. I knew their story would be something I would never forget, but I don’t know if I was prepared for how much I would love their book, how much I would feel it, and how much I would end up living through it all with them.

I might not have been prepared for the level and the intensity of investment M. Mabie gave me with this story and with Reggie and Nora, but you can rest your pretty little head that I went oh so willingly into that investment. As Reggie and Nora fell, I fell just as hard with them. As they fought and gave it their all, I did too, pouring everything I had into those two and what they shared, just like they were. As this story progressed and evolved, and as Reggie and Nora went through every emotional up and down that came their way, I was with them feeling and experiencing it all too.

The level of investment I felt in their story and relationship, the strength of the connection I felt to them both through every page, through every moment of hurt and heart and honesty, and the extraordinary understanding I had with both of them through every turn of the page is all a true testament to M. Mabie’s thoughtful and exceptional crafting of this book, these characters, and their story together.

I could literally go on for paragraphs and paragraphs, and countless more words about how much I loved this book, how much I loved Reggie and Nora, and how much I felt and experienced with them along the way.

I could tell you all about Reggie, his dynamic intensity, his steadfast determination, and the sheer presence that man has.

I could tell you about Nora, her sharp wit, her big heart, and how much that girl feels when she really lets herself go there.

I could tell you about the pulsating connection these two share. How it grows and grows and then grows some more, and how every moment between them is equal parts emotional and visceral and passionate, while being uniquely romantic for them.

I could tell you about how far these two are willing to go for one another, how much they’re willing to do for each other, and what that shows them both and makes them feel along the way.

I could tell you all about their choices and sacrifices. I could tell you about their vulnerability and their honesty that will shake you to your core. I could tell you about their heartbreaks and struggles. I could tell you about their highest of highs and their lowest of lows.

I could tell you about every lick of emotion they will give you, and every bit of emotion they’ll experience for themselves too.

I could tell you about the oranges. I could tell you about the freesia.

I could tell you about their stubbornness and how much you will love them, and hate them, and love them some more for it and what that stubbornness brings them.

I could tell you more about their love, their fears, their doubts, and their hearts that you get to experience firsthand in Knot.

I could tell you it all. I could tell you everything.

But I won’t tell you everything, because that would take away from you experiencing the literal amazingness of what Reggie and Nora will give you within the pages of their unforgettable story.

I could use all the words I know how to use. I could find a way to use every positive adjective under the sun. I could even list every sentiment I could think of to describe what this book gave me. I could count down from a thousand with everything I loved about this book, and I would still need a thousand more numbers to truly encapsulate what I loved about Knot and what it gave me with Reggie and Nora.

I could do all of that and more, and I still wouldn’t even come close to capturing how unforgettable, how emotional and powerful and viscerally real this story is. I wouldn’t come close to capturing what Reggie and Nora share, and I wouldn’t come close to showing you what it’s like to experience their story.

Luckily though, you don’t need my words. You need M. Mabie’s. You need Reggie and Nora’s, and you need everything that they give you along the way in Knot. You need this book in your life. You need its emotions, you need its intensity, and you need its phenomenal words that will give you everything you didn’t even know you needed while it gives you Reggie and Nora.

Let M. Mabie, her phenomenal words, and Reggie and Nora, blow you away with everything they have. Let them make you feel and breathe and live every intense and all-feeling moment, and let the breathtakingly emotional knot of them pull you in oh so tightly to this phenomenal book and their unforgettable story.

It would be wrong not to read this book, and no one says no to Reggie. Ever. Or Nora for that matter. But especially Reggie…so just do yourself a favor and read this book as soon as humanly possible.

You will not regret it, and in the end you’ll get Reggie and Nora, all of their wonderful stubbornness and intensity and emotion, and it truly doesn’t get better than that.

My Review

*****5 Fiery Stars*****

Over two years ago, I fell heart first in love with the world of Meredith Wild’s utterly phenomenal Bridge Series while reading the series’ first book, On My Knees. The world of this series completely swept me up with its distinctive characters, its phenomenal level of authenticity, and a level of emotion and feeling that was equally gripping and breathtaking to experience. To say I was ready to be back in that world with these characters is the understatement of the century, and Into the Fire was an extraordinary addition to this favorite series of mine.

Into the Fire gave me the emotionally charged and wickedly heated story of Darren Bridge and Vanessa Hawkins. It told a story of how these two come together and find they share a connection and chemistry that can’t be fought or denied, no matter how hard they both tried. This story follows the two of them as they feel that connection, as they let it build and grow and spark exponentially, and as they see where that connection might be able to lead them, if they’re actually open to the possibility of something more.

This book is a story of what happens when the ultimate playboy meets the girl with the guarded heart, and how things get very interesting, very real, and very risky for their hearts as they start falling hard and fast for one another.

Meredith Wild enraptures you within their heartfelt and emotionally gripping story through every page of this book, and I for one could not get enough of the journey I took with Darren and Vanessa.

Now I am a huge fan of Meredith Wild, and I have loved and enjoyed each and every one of her thoughtfully crafted and wholly consuming books. Her books are my jam so to speak, so to have the chance to be back with the amazing characters I met and fell in love with in The Bridge Series was something I was desperately ready for.

I went into this book knowing I would most likely love what I would read because Meredith Wild has a way with her writing that simply consumes you. I have to tell you that I wasn’t disappointed one little bit with what I got while reading Into the Fire. Her words in this book take hold of your heart and your mind and your very soul, and they make you feel and live and breathe and experience right along with her unforgettable characters.

Meredith Wild put me in this book, in her very words so to speak, and she let me be in this story through every twist and turn, through every emotional up and down, and through every turn of the page that brings you more heat, more feels, and more things to love about these exceptional characters.

Into the Fire is a mesmerizing story of passion, emotion, and heart as two people with one undeniable connection try to figure out what might happen if they open their hearts up to one another, and as they see where that connection might take them, if they only give it all a chance and give into that fire.

I think one of my favorite aspects of this book was being able to really invest myself with these characters on their journey together. Meredith Wild gives you the phenomenal opportunity to get to know Darren and Vanessa on the deepest and realest of levels in this book. She lets you see below the exteriors and fronts they give to the outside world. She lets you dive in deep with them, and as the layers of their exceptionally crafted characters are peeled back, she shows you just how real and vulnerable they are. She allows you to bond with them, understand them on the truest of levels, and she invests you in them, both individually and as a couple, as they try to open themselves up to one another.

The level of connection I felt to both Darren and Vanessa in this story was incredible to say the least, and it pulled me into their story whole heartedly from page one.

Darren Bridge is a man that just about stole my heart from the moment I met him. Undeniably charming, deliciously handsome, and a genuinely good guy who sometimes made some not so great choices yet still did his damndest to be a good man, made him a man that I couldn’t resist. Ever since I met Darren in On My Knees, there was just something about him that I couldn’t get enough of, something that just drew me to him. That allure exploded in Into the Fire, and the more I got with his character, the more I realized that there was so much more to that man. Over the course of this book I got to understand Darren, and getting to know him and love him, and getting to see his evolution as he tried to win over Vanessa and convince her of what they could share was nothing short of wonderful to experience.

I loved Darren’s tenacity, how much he poured his heart into everything in this book, and I could not get enough of how hard he tried to convince Vanessa that his playboy days were done. Darren starts this book as a man who is all about no commitments and getting out quick, and over the course of the story you get to fully experience how that begins to change. You get to see him fall pretty hard for Vanessa, and you start to see how he wants to be different for her, how things just feel different with her, and you start to see the real Darren come out. And let me tell you, that Darren is one that will sear himself to your heart in no time with his determination and heart, and he will have you melting and falling so fast, you won’t know which way is up. And better yet, you won’t care which way is up because he is that freaking amazing.

Now Vanessa Hawkins is a strong willed, beautiful, and easy to relate to female character that I fell in love with just as much while reading Into the Fire. What I loved about Vanessa was that she was so real, so honest, and she was a girl who was bound and determined to protect her heart. I completely felt for her character through every word of this book, and I understood exactly why she was so guarded with Darren at first. I was with her through every up and down that came her way in this book, and as Vanessa tried to figure out what in the world she was going to do with all that she was feeling towards Darren. The extraordinary level of understanding and connection I felt with her character was all possible because of how phenomenally Meredith Wild crafted her character.

As Into the Fire progresses you get to see Vanessa discover what it might mean to give Darren and her feelings for him a chance, all while trying to figure out what it is exactly that she wants. Vanessa feels with all that she has, and as she starts to see where things with Darren might go and what their relationship could bring her, that’s when things really start to get interesting and you see the fire that Vanessa has within her come out in spades. Vanessa is a determined, smart, and genuine woman giving it her all and facing what comes her way in this story with her head held high, and getting to be there through it all with her in this book was incredible. Throughout this story I got to see her at her highest and lowest, I got to understand her doubts and fears, and I felt every one of her hopes and joys and triumphs through every unforgettable moment of this book with her. I loved her, I felt for her, and I felt connected to her through every word, and that, well that was everything.

Over the courses of Into the Fire you get to be with Vanessa and Darren, and an outstanding cast of supporting characters, as these two try to see what they might be able to share together. Their story is one filled with a tangible build of tension and heat, and when it all explodes, it is more mesmerizing and all-feeling than anything. What Darren and Vanessa share is heartfelt, real, and full of so much passion and vulnerability as they give themselves over to one another, and see where it all might take them, if they’re willing to risk their hearts and put it all on the line. The romance, the feels, and the meltworthy moments that Meredith Wild creates with them in this book will have you loving and feeling every moment with them. I am telling you now, there is no resisting their fire or chemistry or the depth of feelings they share.

Through every page of this book you will be invested in them on every possible, and your heart will be needing these two to figure it all out as they risk it all for one another.

Into the Fire is a story of what happens when two seemingly opposite people with one helluva fiery connection, come together and see what might be, if they only open themselves up to the undeniable and exceptional feelings they share. This book is a story of fight and tenacity, and how the determination you have may be able to bring you to the exact place you never knew you wanted to be, but ultimately need and crave to be. This story is one that will take ahold of your heart, tap into every single emotion and feeling you have, and it will take you on a journey of fire, love, and possibilities as your heart, your mind, and your very soul are put within its wondrous pages.

This is a story of love set on fire, the amazing and life changing things that can happen when you experience that kind of love, and the unforgettable possibilities that kind of love can bring to your life…and it really doesn’t get better than that.

To say I loved this book is putting it too mildly. What Meredith Wild so exceptionally crafted in Into the Fire is not to be missed. This book is everything. It’s so well written, it gives you a story that just doesn’t quit and one that you feel every ounce of, and it gives you two distinctive and wholly enjoyable characters that will put themselves in your heart in no time flat.

Simply put, this book is the entire package. Heartfelt emotion, consuming heat, and irresistibly sparkling with two dynamic characters who are willing to risk it all in order to see what could be. Into the Fire has it all, and you will be blown away by its literal amazingness. Trust me. You want and need this book in your life something fierce, and you will not regret taking the leap of faith into that fire with Darren and Vanessa.

You won’t regret it. Not one little fiery bit.

My Review

*****5 Utterly Phenomenal Stars*****

Just when I think there is no way Aly Martinez can make me fall even more in love with her exceptional words or her dynamic characters or her unforgettable stories, she goes and does just that. She makes me love harder. She makes me experience more unforgettable moments. She gives me two characters that have now permanently seared themselves to my heart, and she does all that through the beautiful and meaningful words she crafts. She makes me fall, she makes me feel, and she gives me every glorious and breathtakingly emotional moment along the way as I experience the thoughtfully crafted words of her stories.

The Spiral Down was no different, except it took that emotion, that unbridled heat and connection, and that level of vulnerability and raw feeling to the next level. Aly Martinez gave me two characters in the most authentic and raw way in this book. She gave me Henry and Evan on every level possible, and I felt them, their struggles, their wants and desires, and everything about them in my heart, my mind, and in my very soul while reading. You might think that sounds like a bit of an exaggeration on my part, but rest assured it’s not.

The level of immense connection and understanding I had with those two was everything, and I know it something I won’t ever forget.

The Spiral Down gives you the much anticipated story of Henry Alexander, a character I met and fell so hopelessly for in The Fall Up. Henry is a huge music star, with one seriously wonderful personality, and a past that has him searching, in more ways than one. You see Henry has a past that has made him crave a certain something, that something that’s always been missing, and that something that gives him the feelings he needs. That something also tends to give him the spiral down. It’s something that Henry equally loathes and craves, and that spiral down takes on a whole new meaning when he meets air captain Evan Roth. Evan is stoic, strong, and as he says, he is not gay. He’s got a dark past of his own, and he isn’t willing to go down the path that Henry wants him to, but no matter how much he fights it, he just can’t seem to stop thinking and feeling and needing Henry.

From the moment Henry and Evan meet, there is an instant connection between them that can’t be stopped. Henry wants Evan, and Evan doesn’t want to want Henry, and the more these two barrel down towards one another, the more things get real, and heated, and intense, and emotional to say the least. The Spiral Down follows their story of fight, raw vulnerability, and one tenacious connection and set of feelings as these two try to overcome their damaged pasts, and see what they just might be able to have together, if they can only find the light in all that darkness.

Their story is real. This story is emotionally raw and gripping. It’s messy and it’s flawed in a way that will have your heart breaking for these two a million times over, yet at the same time it breaks you, it tries to heal you too, right along with them.

It isn’t easy, and it isn’t always pretty, but it is so gloriously real and emotional to experience. Through it all, you will know in the deepest depths of your heart that what Henry and Evan could share together is worth every ounce of fight and hurt and darkness these two must go through, and in the end that will permanently place them both in your heart.

Aly created this story in such a way that let me get Henry and Evan, she let me feel them, and she let me fall so hopelessly for them. Every turn of the page in The Spiral Down strengthened my love for these characters deepening, had me wholly invested in what they could share, and had my heart with theirs as they struggled to overcome the fears and doubts of the past, in order to see what they could share together in the future.

I have loved each and every one of Aly Martinez’s stories, and they are some of my all-time favorite reads, but this one stands out, and I don’t mean because it’s a male-male romance. This one just felt so emotional, so raw and visceral at times, and there were many moments when I was just so wholly consumed by what these characters were experiencing. Being that in this book with them touched my heart, made me cry with hurt and sadness and joy at times, and had my heart throbbing with an immense need and vulnerability with Henry and Evan, as they went through their emotional journey. I felt so completely connected to all that they were experiencing because of how exceptionally Aly wrote and crafted this book.

I felt every ounce of this book. I lived it. I breathed it. I carried its characters with me through every page of the story, and I was completely blown away by what I got to experience within its extraordinary pages.

This book allowed me to feel love, and the true joys and light the right kind of love can bring to your life. It allowed me to feel the most intense kind of heat and connection and feelings that are the true definition of meltworthy. It made me feel vulnerable and open and so viscerally raw at times as these characters faced their respective pasts and hurt, and that opened my heart, along with Henry and Evan’s hearts, to things I never knew possible.

I fell with them, I loved with them, I hurt with them, and I hoped with all I had with them that they would be able to figure it all out and find their way to one another.

I could literally go on for thousands and thousands of more words about how much I felt this book, how much I experienced with Henry and Evan, and how much I lived their story with them, and I still wouldn’t crack the surface on how extraordinary The Spiral Down and Aly Martinez’s writing is.

The Spiral Down not only gave me a story I know I’ll never forget, it gave me two distinctive characters to love so fully and truly. And let me tell you, Henry and Evan are the best. Like the literal best.

Henry Alexander is a lot of things. He’s hysterical, he has a charming personality that will have your cheeks hurting from smiling so much, and he will steal your heart in a nanosecond. He is also mine. Okay? Okay. After meeting and experiencing him in The Fall Up, I knew I needed his story, and I knew that he would give me a story I wouldn’t soon forget. What Henry gave me was a vulnerability, a level of honesty and openness, and a full on glimpse into what made him him. Equal parts charming and sweet, outlandish and vibrant, while being so completely real and heartfelt, Henry Alexander is a man that is my new life partner. The Spiral Down gave me every bit of Henry Alexander, and the more I got of him, the more fiercely I loved him, the more I understood him and his choices on every level possible, and the more I needed him to be okay.

Understanding Henry, seeing where his fears, worries, and choices stemmed from, and understanding the past that so affected his present was everything, and I cannot tell you enough how much I love his character. My love for him is unending and so very real, and that was all possible because of what Aly Martinez gave me with him in this book.

Evan Roth is a man who equally stole my heart. He is a man who hates labels, who is very stoic, and who has this wall around him to prevent people from getting to close. He has a past that warrants all of that, and he is in no way prepared for Henry Alexander to tear through those carefully crafted walls with a bulldozer that equally terrifies and excites him. What I loved about Evan’s character was really getting to experience, understand, and feel that struggle he went through. Evan was definitely mysterious, but he was so damn alluring too. I needed to know and get more of him, and Aly gave me just that. Over the course of The Spiral Down, she gave me Evan 100%, and she let me understand through some very shocking revelations and moments what had made Evan so wary about relationships with men in the first place, and what held him back with Henry.

As Evan starts to see what he and Henry could really share, I fell so immensely in love with his character. I loved how he opened up, how he opened up Henry, and how he exemplified what it truly means to overcome the darkness and pains of your past in order to embrace the feeling and the joy the light of the future can bring you.

The Spiral Down was just another exceptional story to read, experience, and feel by Aly Martinez. Every word with Henry and Evan in this book was heartfelt, real, and intensely emotional and passionate and heated.

Written and created with such beautifully emotional and all-consuming writing, this book tells the story of what happens when you meet that one person that literally changes everything. It shows the truly good and life changing things that can happen when that right person makes you look at everything differently, and what can happen as you find yourself on a path you craved and wanted and needed, yet never thought you’d actually get the chance to be on. And sure that path might be scary and bumpy and it might not be the easiest of paths to take, but it is so real and so good and so damn worth it.

This book gives you that path with Henry and Evan, and you feel in your heart, and in your bones, and in your very being, every breathtaking and all-feeling step of the way.

The Spiral Down is a mesmerizing story of how the pain and darkness and fears from the past, can open you and your heart up to an extraordinary level of feeling and vulnerability and love, and how it can literally give you it all, if you just take that leap of faith, and embrace that spiral down.

I loved every single word of this book. I loved its characters, both main and supporting, its feels, and every moment I got within its wondrous pages. I loved how it made me laugh, and smile, and cry, and hope, and just feel, and in the end it gave me a love story I know will stay with me forever.

This book, the meaning and feeling behind every word, and the moments you get within it are everything, and you need to experience it as soon as humanly possible. It would be so wrong to miss a book so exceptional as this one, and I can’t recommend it to you enough.

Read this book. Let it wow you and take ahold of your heart and feels in every single way possible. Give yourself over to it and Henry and Evan, and just experience the emotionally mesmerizing and unforgettable ride that is The Spiral Down.

Excerpt

Henry

“How about you and one of your girls come out to my show in L.A. next week? My treat. Dinner, drinks, the whole deal. Evan and I would love to take you two beautiful ladies out for an evening.”

“Excuse me?” he exclaimed, cocking his head to catch my gaze.

I leaned back into my seat and lifted a hand to massage his shoulder. I was barely able to suppress a moan when the angle of his firm trap muscle met my palm.

Fuck, this guy was built like a brick wall. And I was going to love every second of watching him crumble for me.

“Oh, come on, Evan. It’s the least we can do. Double date.” I winked at Jessica. “You can fly them out! My plane should be ready by then.”

Jessica’s eyes jumped to Evan’s. “You’re a pilot?” Her smile spread irritatingly wide.

Back off, Ginger Spice.

Snapping my fingers in her direction, I corrected, “He’s my pilot.”

Subtlety was not a virtue I possessed. Was subtlety a virtue at all?

“Your temporary pilot,” he amended before shaking his head and then tipping his beer to his lips for a long pull.

“Anyway. Do we have a date?” And, by date, I meant feeding her dinner while I attempted to work my way into Evan’s pants.

She pressed one finger to her lips and then nervously flashed her eyes around the cabin.

“Oops. Sorry.” I shrugged sheepishly. Lifting my drink to my mouth, I discreetly passed her my cocktail napkin and then not-so-discreetly brushed my forearm against Evan’s chest as I pulled away.

He offered her a tight smile just before she disappeared.

I grinned proudly.

“What the fucking hell was that?” he whisper-yelled at me.

“That was me getting a woman’s number.”

He arched an eyebrow. “A woman. Really?”

“What? Is that not allowed?” I feigned innocence.

He clenched his fist in his lap, and it made me suddenly aware that my own hands had stopped trembling—and in record time, I should note. Evan seemed to be quite useful in the art of distraction.

He leaned closer. “Don’t bullshit me. I looked you up. You’re…” He stopped, unwilling to say the big, bad “G” word.

“I’m what?” I taunted.

He rolled his eyes and chugged the rest of his beer.

We went back to silence until Jessica came back by with another drink, complete with her phone number written on the napkin.

“I’m not going on a double date,” Evan said as I tucked the napkin into my pocket. “You want me to fly them out? Not a problem. Schedule it with Jackson. But that’s the extent of my professional responsibilities. And, since I’m off the clock right now, I’d also like to mention that I think whatever play you’re planning to run on that woman is fucked up.”

My head snapped to his. “I’m sorry. Play?” I asked with more attitude than I had originally planned.

“Yes. Play,” he sneered.

I stirred my drink. “Let me get this straight. I’m offering to fly her out in a private jet, feed her dinner at one of the best restaurants in the city, and put her front row at a concert that has been sold out for over a year. That doesn’t seem like a play to me. It sounds like I’m trying to do something nice for a woman I was rude to earlier.” I casually leaned back in my seat. “My conscience doesn’t ‘play’ when it comes to apologies.”

“Right. Well, maybe you should have a chat with your conscience, because she looks like she just won the date of a lifetime. Meanwhile, you don’t even like women.” He stalled, no doubt looking for just the right word to express his disgust without sounding like a bigot. Judging by his gentleness when we’d taken off, he wasn’t the type of guy to go for the fag bomb.

I watched him intently, excited to see how he was going to handle this.

“You’re gay.”

I frowned at his lack of creativity. “Not that it’s any of your damn business. But I’ll have you know I love women.”

It wasn’t a lie. I adored women. Especially Levee and Robin.

I just didn’t like pussy. Meh. Semantics.

He gaped. “You’re bi?”

“And I’ll repeat: None of your damn business. But yeah. Do you have a problem with that?”

Again, it wasn’t necessarily a lie.

Was I bisexual? Fuck no. My cock was in no way an equal opportunity employer.

I was somewhat bilingual though. I knew how to ask for a blow job in English and Spanish. I pretended that was what he meant.

Chupame la verga.

My Review

*****5 Amazing Stars*****

From the moment I saw the amazing cover of Hetch, I knew I had to read it. From the second I read its alluring blurb, I knew I had to devour it as soon as humanly possible. As soon as I knew this book was written by River Savage, I had no doubt that it would give me an all-feeling, intensely heated and emotionally gripping story that I wouldn’t soon forget. And you know what, I was definitely right with those thoughts.

Hetch was an all-consuming read that packed the perfect level of mesmerizing heat and connection, heartfelt and thoughtfully crafted emotion, and two characters that seared themselves to my heart from the very first moment I met them.

Now it’s no secret that I am a huge fan of River Savage. I have read and loved all of her books, and they have all given me some phenomenal reading experiences, along with some pretty unforgettable characters. When I sit down to read a book of hers I know it will pack one helluva story that will have me on the edge of my seat feeling and experiencing it all through every page. I also know that her writing will completely encapsulate me within her story, her world, and with her characters in a way that feels so real, so raw and authentic, and just so wonderful. Hetch was no different, and I was blown away by what I got within the pages of this book.

Hetch and Liberty’s story in this book was mesmerizing and emotionally intense to say the least. I felt every single word of it as they tried to figure out what in the world they were doing with one another. Experiencing what it was like for those two to find each other, feel for one another, and fall oh so wonderfully hard for one another was everything, and I loved every moment I got with them in this book.

What I absolutely loved about Hetch:

  • A whole new world and series to love. Hetch is the first book in River Savage’s Men of S.W.A.T. series, and I have to tell you that I am already loving this series something fierce. This series opens up the world of this brotherhood that bursts with loyalty, grit, and a sense of connection that is unyielding in the best way. I loved getting to know all of the new characters of this series, and getting to experience their memorable personalities throughout this book. River Savage has a true talent with giving you supporting characters that are so wonderfully distinctive, and this book is no different. I got to know and fall in love with the many members of Hetch’s SWAT Unit, as well as the girlfriends that Liberty has. I can’t wait to get to know each and every one of them more as this series continues. Something tells me they all have some serious stories to tell, and I’ve already got grabby hands just thinking about what’s to come.
  • An evolution that makes sense. I have to say that one of my favorite aspects of Hetch was the evolution of Liberty and Hetch’s relationship. It never felt rushed or force, it just felt right. Those two share one intense and incredible connection that will have you mesmerized in no time, and everything you experience with them in this book heightens that and every feeling they start to share. After meeting in a quite memorable way, these two can’t seem to stay away from one another, and despite them both having their trepidations, they soon start to feel something way more than either of them bargained for. What initially started out as fun, soon turns into something very real and raw and heartfelt. That scares Liberty and Hetch a bit, or a lot, but at the same time it shows them what they just might be able to have together, if they only give it all a chance and let themselves embrace the feelings they have.
  • Hetch’s emotional journey. Hetch definitely goes through a seriously emotional journey, and River Savage let me experience every ounce of that with him. She let me understand him, she put me in some very tough moments with him, and she let me feel that emotional struggle he was having as he tried to overcome the emotional trauma of his past and its ramifications. She just really allowed me to get him on every level possible, and that made everything he was going through in this book that more real, that more intense, and that more connected to what I was feeling for him. Hetch is definitely a force to be reckoned with, and he has this way about him that will simultaneously make you blush and melt and fall like crazy for him, but at the same time you will feel for him immensely. So many of the events in this book push his character, both mentally and emotionally, and they make him realize and experience some not so easy things. Being with him through all of that placed that man in my heart, and I just loved him so much. I felt for him, I cared, and I just wanted him to make it through, and all of that connection was possible because of how phenomenally River Savage created his character.
  • Liberty’s got that fire. River Savage knows how to write a female character with some sass and fire, and Liberty was no different. I absolutely loved her character, and I loved that she was not afraid to do what she thought she needed to or what was right. She also wasn’t afraid to push Hetch’s buttons or to call him on his shit, and I had some major respect for her with that. What I loved about Liberty was that she was just such an easy character to love and relate to. She was kind, thoughtful, and she had a spunk that never failed to bring a smile to my face. At the same time, she was so genuine and real, and she was so invested in the work she was doing for her boys. Seeing and experiencing the true goodness of her just had my heart going to her in no time, and had me hoping with all I had that her and Hetch would be able to find a way to make it all through. Liberty is no wilting flower, and the fire, strength, and determination she had emanated from the pages of this book in the most memorable way with her.
  • A love worth feeling and fighting for. Liberty and Hetch share a connection that just doesn’t quit. From the first moment they meet, it fires off like crazy and continues to build in the most tension filled and heated way. The more those two were together, the more I wanted them to climb each other like trees, and the more I wanted them to explore the more they could share together. While Liberty and Hetch share a heated physical connection, I loved how deeply they felt towards one another. Their emotional connection was just as intense and just as visceral, and even though that connection scared them both so much because they didn’t know what to do with it, at the same time that connection gave them it all. Their connection was palpable, heartfelt, and all-feeling, and every moment with them in this book gives you that connection in the most incredible way. Throughout this story they struggle to figure out where that connection will take them, and while it isn’t always easy for the two of them, and while they have to work on the bumps in the road they face, you will have no doubt that their fight is highly worth it in every way possible.
  • The best twists and turns. Like any book by River Savage, Hetch had some glorious twists and turns that had me one the edge of my seat the entire time. I love how she adds in the action and drama in a way that makes sense for the stories and the characters, and in a way that has my emotions going through the ringer just a bit. Every turn of the page in this book brought a new twist or turn, either in Liberty and Hetch’s relationship, or in the outside forces surrounding them. The more I read this book, the more I brought myself closer to that edge with all that happens, and the more my heart became invested in what I was reading with all of these characters. I never knew what they would all face next, but I had no doubt I would feel and experience every ounce of it, and that made this book so phenomenal to read.

Hetch is an emotionally charged story of what happens when you meet that one person who puts you back together in ways you never knew possible. It’s about how the right person can give you things you never even knew you needed, and how they can give you it all, if you only open yourself and your heart up to them. This book is about feeling and living and loving with all that you have, and about letting go of that past that threatens to consume you, so that you can embrace that future that just might give you it all.

I loved every bit of Hetch and Liberty’s story in this book. I loved what it made me feel, how it made me fall, and how it gave me their enrapturing story that was so full of meaningful emotion, and an intense and heart squeezing connection that just couldn’t be beat. Those two have a connection and a dynamic that bursts from the page, and I just couldn’t get enough of it. What they share and what they go through in this book together will have you feeling and caring for them both so much, and in the end you will just love them both to pieces. I know I did.

Excerpt

They say moments of clarity hit you hard. Like suddenly a deep understanding smacks you in the face. Your vision becomes unclouded, and a truth that’s been out of your reach rushes at you. It’s in that second your perception of reality becomes so clear you can’t begin to describe it.

Some call it beautiful, some say it can be saddening, some even compare it to the moment your drug of choice washes over you, offering a moment of escape.

I wish I could I say my moment of clarity is an epiphany or some kind of life-defining moment that showed me where my messed-up life is going.

No, my moment hits me as the first wave of the orgasm I’ve been chasing the last few minutes washes over me.

“Fuck, woman, wait for me this time.” His voice pulls me from my haze first, reminding me how messed up I am.

Heat covers my body, not from the life-altering orgasm, but from embarrassment.

Without thinking rationally, I throw my vibrator to the floor and freeze, afraid to move, as a low moan pauses on my lips. The thump of my beating heart, almost syncing in perfect rhythm to the throb drumming between my legs.

Jesus, please tell me he didn’t hear me.

“Don’t go shy on me now, babe.” He half chuckles, half growls, and even though there is a wall between us, the words wash over me; Goose bumps prickle my skin as if his warm breath whispered over me.

Shit.

Shit.

Shit.

Slowly, as if by some freak of nature, apartment nine can see me through the wall, I roll off the bed and find myself on all fours.

Really, Liberty?

Fully committed to my actions, I slowly army crawl my way to the nearest exit.

A strong tap on the wall halts my escape followed by, “You still there?” Another wave of humiliation crashes over me when I take stock of my predicament.

If I don’t get out of here fast, I’ll be drowning in so much embarrassment, nothing will resuscitate me.

Unable to form a coherent thought, and not willing to engage with the pervert, I continue to low crawl my way out of my bedroom and into my bathroom. Closing the door, I stand, and quickly walk to the shower. After turning the faucet on, I strip the rest of my clothes off, then step under the spray of the water.

Jesus, that was close.

I have no idea what I was thinking. In fact, I know I wasn’t. Which scares me even more.

I, Liberty Jenson, would never take risks like this. If asked what prompted this change in me, I’d answer with two things.

Apartment nine.

And a self-appointed sex sabbatical.

It all started when I moved into my new apartment. At first, I was excited, ready for a fresh start. After a messy break-up, which included dealing with a douche ex who didn’t know how to keep his dick in his pants, I needed a new place. Somewhere closer to town this time, secure, and most importantly, affordable. However, finding a place close to the city, which was secure enough to make me feel safe and would still leave me enough money left over from my program director’s wage, proved to be a feat. After searching for five weeks, I was about to give up, accept defeat and move in with my mom and dad again. I mean it wasn’t the worst thing that could happen to a single thirty-year-old woman.

Right?

Luckily for me, I didn’t have to resort to such desperate measures when this place came up two weeks ago. After a quick walk through, I fell in love with the two bedrooms, one bath, and open kitchen living area. I filled out the paperwork, paid my deposit, a month’s rent in advance, and moved in five days later.

Everything seemed perfect.

That was until I realized how paper-thin the walls were between apartments.

It started out subtle, a sneeze in the early evening on my first night here as I settled into bed. A soft murmur of a man’s voice the third night.

But then came the sex.

The hot, wild, filthy sex.

The fourth night in my new apartment, I was woken to the low moans of what I assumed to be a needy woman.

My face heats up remembering the screams, the grunts. The deep baritone of apartment nine’s voice as he told the ‘bitch’ to keep it quiet.

Unsure what to do, I laid silent, listening to my new neighbor fuck some lucky woman into submission.

I’m not going to lie; I wasn’t turned on by it. I was set alight.

I never thought I would be that kind of person, the kind who got off from listening in on someone get off, but something in the way he spoke to her, something in the way he spoke to all the other women since, stirred a new want in me. Soon I found myself seeking out my room for a chance to hear him.

It was wrong.

So wrong.

But it didn’t stop me from wanting it.

The screams.

The deep grunts of pleasure.

I wanted it all.

I wanted it to be me.

“I’m officially going to hell.” I groan under the water, trying to wash the stupidity off me. Stupid would be the nice way of calling me a fucking idiot. And an idiot is what I am. Especially after tonight.
