My Review

*****5 Unforgettable Stars*****

Forget by N. A. Alcorn tells the story of Brooke, an American visiting Paris, who meets and starts to fall heart first for Dylan, a half British half French swoon worthy musician. It follows these two as their serious sparks start to fly, and they find themselves having many more feelings than either of them planned for.

I have to say that I loved every single phenomenally vibrant word of this book.

I loved Brooke and how fantastically authentic and truly wonderful she was. I loved Dylan and was completely under his charming spell in about a nanosecond. I loved that I laughed hysterically more times than I could count. I loved all of the varied and thoughtfully crafted emotion and heat and vulnerability that weaved its way so superbly throughout this book. I loved how music played such an integral part to the plot, to these characters, and to all they experience.

I loved everything.

It was just phenomenal to experience from beginning to end, and I couldn’t get enough of Brooke and Dylan and their heart squeezing story. This author’s outstanding writing brought these two and their book world to life, and I for one cannot wait for the chance to spend more times with these utterly amazing characters.

What was absolutely unforgettable about Forget:

  • Brooke’s vulnerability. Brooke was such a fantastic character to get to know, and I loved that I got to know the “real” her over the course of this story. You see many sides to Brooke, the side she puts up to protect herself and then the side that is really her. As you read Forget you will really get to know the real Brooke, aka Paris Brooke, and her vulnerability and rawness will just blow you away because of what it exemplifies about her. She is just so real, and the more you read the more you’ll understand why Brooke is the way she is. When you find out what this girl has gone through, and what she goes through in this book your heart will instantly go to her.
  • Dylan’s bursting with charm. Now Dylan’s charming self practically stole my heart the instant he and Brooke meet. That man is sweet, and seriously stinking hot, and did I mention the fact that he’s a musician? The more you get to know Dylan’s character the more you’ll want to spend time with him just like Brooke because the pull and just magic that is him is irresistible. That man also feels so much, and I loved the instances in which I got into his head to really feel everything that he does. I am telling you now that there is no way that you can resist him, especially when you start to feel and experience what he shares with Brooke.
  • A firework level connection and pull. Let me tell you that these two had an instant connection that this author phenomenally creates. You feel it the instant they meet and their connection just pulls you into them because of the sparks these two share. It is fiery, it is hot as all get out, and it just burns off the page in such a way that brings a certain kind of blush to your face. It also just makes you realize the power of what these two share together.
  • The power of Millie. Now Millie just might be my favorite character in this book, behind Dylan and Brooke of course. I loved that lady and the wisdom and meaning that surrounded her. The words that she shared, the memories she evokes, and just the power that is her is just beautiful and so utterly meaningful. The power of Millie will just warm your heart. It’ll make you think and feel and wonder about the possibilities this world holds, and it’ll make you want to live your life the way that Millie did, with no regrets. Trust me on that one!
  • The magic of Paris. N.A. Alcorn does an outstanding job of capturing the magical city of Paris. That city is almost like a third main character in this book, and I loved that I was fully encapsulated within the magic it evoked throughout this entire book. That magic just brought this book and these characters to life because I felt like I was right there with them feeling and experiencing that vibrant feel of the city with them, which was extraordinary to experience while reading.
  • The questions that come up along the way. Now this book brings up a lot of questions, some of which are answered and some of which aren’t. (But stay tuned folks because there’s a book 2 that I cannot wait for!) I loved how those questions perfectly came up throughout what was happening with Brooke and Dylan. Those questions intrigued me and made me that much more enthralled with what I was reading because I couldn’t wait to figure out what was going to happen next, and if I was going to get an answer to one of those fantastic questions I had. Those questions pull you into this story heart first, and while you don’t get all the answers yet, you do get enough to realize that there is so much more to these characters than meets the eye, especially with Brooke, and that is utterly wonderful to experience.
  • The honesty. Honesty plays an interesting and phenomenal role in Forget. There are so many raw and vulnerable moments from both of these characters where they are both so fantastically honest. Moments where they put it all out there on display for the other to see. Then there are moments where there’s not so much honesty, where you know there is more going on beneath the surface, and those moments are just as telling. Those moments surrounding honesty fit so magnificently into the story, and just illuminated so much about Brooke and Dylan.
  • All the laughs a girl could ask for. Having read all of N.A. Alcorn’s other books, I was none too surprised to find myself laughing hysterically more often than not in this book. Through Brooke’s inner thoughts, her conversations with her best friend Lindsay, and through some seriously engaging moments with Dylan, I could not stop laughing at what was being said. That laughter broke up the tension and build in this book so fantastically, and it just made me love reading this book because of the laughs that it brought.
  • More emotion than you can shake a stick at. This book had an outstanding level of varied emotion in it thanks to the phenomenal writing of this author. You get to feel every single thing these characters do, and even better you understand why they’re feeling it. The level of emotion in this book allows you feel Brooke and Dylan’s story on a whole new level. You hurt with them, you love with them, and you care with them. You feel everything with them and that makes this book all the more extraordinary to read.

Brooke, Dylan, their lively, music filled, and superbly emotional story will have you feeling and thinking and caring like crazy. It’ll give you moments that’ll make you laugh, moments that will squeeze your heart because of what these two experience and go through, and moments that will break you and simultaneously send your heart to these characters because of what they go through.

Forget will give you so much of everything that makes a book an extraordinary read. The way that N.A. Alcorn crafts this story allows you the outstanding opportunity to take it all in and to feel every word of it deep in your heart. When you reach that last page you will literally be counting down the days until you can become fully encapsulated within the magic and connection that emanates so beautifully from it.

This story and Brooke and Dylan will engage you right from the start, and even in those moments in this book that kind of make you want to scream and possibly throw your Kindle clear across the room, you will be oh so happy at what those two and their extraordinary story give you as the reader.

You’ll want to take in every beautiful, mesmerizing, heart squeezing, and lively moment Forget gives you, because what you get is nothing short of amazing.

My Review*****5 PHENOMENAL STARS*****

When I sat down to read The Best Medicine by Elizabeth Hayley I knew that I should probably expect some hysterical laugh out loud moments and lines, some searing hot moments filled to the brim with some serious heat, and characters that would engage the heck out of me because of how phenomenally these authors write.

Well, The Best Medicine gave me all of that, and more.

It gave me more humor and wit that had one seriously big smile on my face. (My jaw actually kind of hurt after reading this book because of how much I was laughing and smiling while reading. Seriously.) It gave me more heat and fire and connection between these two characters than I knew what to do with, and that just amplified every single thing they shared in this outstanding book. It also gave me two dynamic, headstrong, and enrapturing characters that I immensely enjoyed getting to know over the course of this book.

Basically, The Best Medicine gave me a whole lot of incredible things, and it is most assuredly one of my top reads for the year.

I loved this book. Every wonderful aspect of it was amazing, and outstandingly written, and just fanfreakingtastic. What can I say? I really, really loved this book.

I LOVED, and I mean loved Scott and Lauren’s story. I felt connected to it while reading. I loved getting to experience this story with them, through both of their eyes, as it allowed me to feel so connected to them and what was happening.

I felt what they felt. I thought what they thought. I experienced the same things they experienced. I laughed at the same things they did, blushed probably a tad more than they actually did, and I sure as hell felt the insanely hot connection between these two. I so totally understood them too. I got their hesitations, their wonderings, their anger, their passion, their connection, their longing, their insecurities. I got it all. Every single wondrous and unforgettable little bit.

Experiencing all of that with these two remarkable characters was possible because of the extraordinary writing of Elizabeth Hayley. Their writing is seamless and fresh and witty, and just allows you to get right into the thick of this story with these characters. Their writing gives you the chance to get to know these characters, layer by thoughtfully crafted layer, and you get the phenomenal opportunity to understand and love them more the deeper you get into their story.

Elizabeth Hayley’s writing gives you the opportunity to fully experience what you’re reading, and there is truly nothing better than that. It probably also helps that this book, like their others is brimming with more charm, humor, sarcasm, and the best kind of ridiculousness than you can shake a stick at.

One thing that Elizabeth Hayley most certainly knows how to do, is create unique and vibrant characters that I love and am practically chomping at the bit to get to know. Case in point: Scott and Lauren. (And ALL OF THEIR FRIENDS!)

Lauren’s character was spirited and vibrant in the most fantastic ways. That girl is real, and honest, and tells it like it is. I had mad respect for her because of that. She’s fiercely determined and sharp as a tack too. She’s also someone who can appreciate being completely ridiculous, and is spontaneous in the best possible ways. I especially loved how thoughtful she was, and how that was exemplified so fantastically throughout this book. Let me tell you, that girl is with it. The more I got to know her character, the more I loved her and wanted to be friends with her. And all of her friends for that matter.

I loved that as the story progressed and I got to know Lauren’s character more, I got to understand more of her past and her personality. Like all of the characters in this book, Lauren has many thoughtfully written layers to her, and it was nothing short of phenomenal to learn more about her, her past, and her choices and the vulnerabilities that came with them. Getting to know her on that level had my heart going to her repeatedly, and just reiterated over and over again how exceptional of a character she was.

Did I mention she’s hysterical, and witty, and kind of the best? Because she’s all that and more. I truly heart that girl something fierce.

Now Scott’s character was one that I was instantly pulled into. There’s definitely a level of cockiness to him and that man is certainly very stubborn, but oh is he charming. He’s also insanely good to imagine in a lab coat. Hot doctor. Need I say more? He is a man who gets what he wants, and he’s definitely got a strong determined side to him. Underneath all of that though is a man with a truly good heart who isn’t looking for any kind of commitment. He likes to keep people at a distant, especially those of the female persuasion, but Lauren gets to him in such a way that brings out so many things about Scott’s dynamic character.

What I think I liked most about Scott was that there was much more to him than initially meets the eye. Scott hides behind a lot of things, and it was simply outstanding to see, learn, and experience the reasoning behind why he made the choices he did. You really get to know a lot more about his past, and why things are the way they are with him. As much as I sometimes wish I could’ve reached in and shook his character for the nonsense he thought and did, because of how his past and feelings are so superbly written, I just got it and him. I knew and understood his character, and exploring those layers of him was just fantastic because it allowed him to feel so immensely real.

Did I mention he’s a really good looking doctor who is bound and determined to melt your heart? And something else for that matter… That man has full on McDreamy status with me.

Lauren and Scott’s relationship, or non-relationship if you ask them, was superb. It had the perfect amount of heat and passion and sexiness to it. These two characters are practically firecrackers together, and when they come together things get sparkly, insanely hot, and explosive within a matter of seconds. All of that chemistry and pull towards one another just heightened everything they shared, and pulled me more into their story.

Reading these two try and figure out what in the world they had going and where it was all possibly headed or not headed was fantastic. Elizabeth Hayley truly captures every single aspect and feeling that goes along with these two trying to figure all of that out. Those two also know their way around some good banter, and they can really go at it with one another, but that’s what just makes them so spectacular.

The Best Medicine is a book that not only gave me Lauren and Scott, but it also gave me the fabulous distinctive people that came with them, aka their friends and family members. Each of those little gems were engaging, and fun, and had me loving their unique personalities. They had me laughing out loud, feeling like I was part of a really cool group of authentic and seriously entertaining people, and they just helped glue every fabulous part of this story together. I for one cannot wait to spend more time getting to know all of them better as this series continues.

Lauren and Scott’s story in The Best Medicine is a lot of things. It’s funny and charming with the right amount of heat that is balanced superbly with a thoughtfully crafted story that just doesn’t quit. In this book Elizabeth Hayley gives you a story with so many incredible aspects to it. The way all of the tremendously well written pieces of these remarkable characters and their outstanding story comes together will just leave you in complete elation because of what it gives you and allows you to experience.

All those feelings. All those heated and passion filled moments. All that realness. All that fun. All those exceptionally written layers.

You get to experience it all, and that’s just part of what makes this book an exceptional read.

The writing duo that is Elizabeth Hayley are two of my favorite authors for a reason. They give you everything in one amazing package. Exceptional writing and storytelling, characters that are just about every positive adjective under the sun, and a reading experience that allows you to escape and fall hopelessly in love with the world and people they’ve so wonderfully created.

The Best Medicine is guaranteed to give you so many magnificent things, but most of all, it will give you a book that will give you one helluva reading experience that you truly won’t want to have end.

And did I also happen to mention that there’s a hot doctor in this book?…

Synopsis2

Love endures all things.

Darby McKenzie’s heart started beating funny the day that she met Trace Chamberlain. She was four, he was five, and that meeting altered the course of both their lives forever.

Trace was born into a nightmare. Before meeting Darby and her family, the only love he ever knew was that of his twin brother. The two of them endured years of abuse that left scars. The permanent kind.

For Trace, meeting Darby was like catching a rainbow. She exploded into his life in a pop of Technicolor that awakened his senses. She wasn’t just his best friend—she was his life. His touchstone, his safety, his heart—she was everything.

Darby had been through it all with Trace and her love for him never wavered for a second. But no amount of love could make Trace believe that he was worthy of her. Knowing that she deserved better, Trace pushed her away, when what he really wanted was to pull her closer. Emotionally destroyed and bitter from the back and forth, Darby finally let go and decided to move on.

Sometimes hitting rock bottom is the only way to understand that you need to change. Realizing that losing Darby means losing everything, Trace sets out to fight for the love of his life.

Is it too late for Darby and Trace to have a happily ever after?

My Review

*****4.5 Fantastic Stars*****

Catch and Release was a beautifully emotionally book that took me on a truly phenomenal journey with these extremely authentic characters. It not only gave me Darby and Trace’s heart squeezing story, it gave me every single thoughtfully crafted emotion and feeling they had. Every one of their doubts and heartbreaks they had along the way. All of their vulnerabilities. All of their ups and downs. All of the moments that defined their relationship. Every single magnificent piece of their journey together.

I got it all in Catch and Release, and I couldn’t be more thrilled with that.

I have been waiting for this story since I read Catch My Fall. That was actually the first book I ever read by this author, and it’s was solidified her as one of my favorites. While falling in love with Mia and Tristan’s story in that book, I got to fall in love with Darby and Trace too. I knew those two had one helluva past, and I was ecstatic to get to experience that in this book.

This book and their past and story gave me so much more than I expected, and I enjoyed every single fantastic word that this book gave me.

What was absolutely fantastic about Catch and Release:

  • Darby is strong as all get out. Darby is probably one of the strongest female characters that I have ever read. She is fiery and sassy, and is as vibrant as can be. That is her through and through, and I relished in getting to read the strong female character that she was. Darby has so much fight in her and that just defines her character in the best way. I loved getting to know her over the course of this book and seeing that strength come out in so many different and magnificent ways. My heart just went to that girl because no matter what she was strong and determined and gave it all she had, and that just made her golden to me.
  • Trace’s heartbreaking past. Having read Catch My Fall, I knew that Trace and his brother Tristan had a horrendous childhood. Catch and Release lets you see Trace’s childhood first hand, and let me tell you, that will just break your heart for him. It’ll also have your heart instantly going to him and his brother for what they endured. As much as it pulled at my heart to read about Trace’s past, I thought it was phenomenal to see how that past in turn affected him as he continued on and with his relationship with Darby. Seeing and really experiencing his character’s past gave me a new and utterly exceptional understanding of his character, which connected me so much into him and his story.
  • The depth of feeling. You really feel over and over again in Catch and Release how deeply Trace and Darby feel for one another. This book gives you the extraordinary opportunity to see Darby and Trace’s relationship right from the beginning and through so many stages. Getting to experience that allows you to fully feel and know how deeply these two feel for one another. When you feel that reading this book it’ll make you hope with all of your heart that these two can figure out a way to make it work because you know how truly and deeply they love each other.
  • Understanding the past. One of my very favorite aspects of this book was getting to understand the past of both of these characters. This book starts at the beginning of Darby and Trace. You get chance to see them grow and develop as individuals. You also get to see how their relationship evolves over the course of the book too. I loved how Ella Fox gave me these characters’ pasts because it allowed me such a magnificent understanding of them both. It also made me fall in love with both of their characters, as well as what they were fighting for. Getting the pasts of these characters is just one of the many aspects that pulled me in so deeply to what I was reading in this fantastic story.
  • The heartbreaking moments. Catch and Release has a lot of heartbreaking moments. Whether your heart is breaking for Trace and all that he has to go through and experience. Whether it’s for Darby and experiencing what it’s like for her to watch Trace go through those things, or when she’s losing parts of herself because of what is and isn’t happening in their relationship. Whether it’s for Darby and Trace as the push and pull in their relationship slowly starts to take its toll. Whatever it is, this book will give you so many heartbreaking moments. You might think it’s strange that I enjoyed reading that, but that heartbreak emotionally connected me to these two from the instant I met them. It allowed me to fight for them, care for them, and just love them wholly. Those heartbreaking moments gave me Darby and Trace at their most vulnerable moments, and made my heart go to them again and again.
  • The level of fight that defines this book and characters. I loved the level of fight that was in Catch and Release. In this story you get many different types of fight from all of the characters. Trace is fighting against what he’s feeling for Darby. Darby is fighting for Trace to realize he is good and whole and so immensely worth it. They’re both fighting with the feelings they share for one another. I have to say it was also just refreshing to read a story where the female character is the one with the fight, the one who tries to help and heal. I love these kinds of stories and that’s just one of the many reasons I loved this book. The fight goes on and on, and the way that fight thoughtfully weaves itself into this story is nothing short of wonderful.

Catch and Release tells the emotional journey of two characters that I just loved to pieces. This story gave me so much of them, and I guarantee that you will fall heart first in love with both Trace and Darby as they try to figure out what could happen if they really gave it a shot.

I really cannot recommend this book to you more. It is beautiful, emotional and just downright phenomenal. Trace and Darby and their heart pulling story will just pull you in, and you won’t want it to let you go.

This story will give you so many emotionally intense moments that will have your heart going to these characters over and over again. You will feel for them. You will love with them. You will break with them. You will try to heal with them. You will fight for it all right along with them.

You will do it all with them, and that is just part of what makes this book an exceptional read.

CMC teaser 1

ExcerptJulian tingled all over. His vision was clouded with colors that weren’t even associated with sounds. A guitar would help.

Cleo was killing him. It was time to power through the outer edges of lust and get to the eye of the storm. In other words, to where reality set in and her endless faults irritated him instead of turning him on.

She had moved in under the guise of working until she could get back on her feet. Nobody had come out and said that, but it was the unspoken understanding. Instead, she was working her sweet little ass off and doing a bang-up job. And if that weren’t bad enough, he fucking liked her. And he didn’t want to like her.

He sat on the bed and reached for his faithful Fender. Predictably, it was already plugged into an amp. He liked predictable. He ordered his life around it. And now Cleo had muddied it all up by barging into his life—and his heart— uninvited.

That had only happened once before, and it had been disastrous.

He ran his fingers over the tattoos on his forearm, feeling the small scars beneath the ink. If only everything in his past was as easy to hide.

He leaned back against the headboard, letting the weight of the guitar settle into his lap. If he was patient, a song would come.

At first, it was a single turquoise note, but he quickly teased a rainbow out of it. A few sexy thoughts of Cleo were teased up as well, and he settled the guitar lower on his hips. His head sank back as a melodic strain poured through him. The instrument moaned in ecstasy as he bent a note up, coaxing, enticing, and sweet-talking a candy-apple wail out of it before bringing it down with a shudder.

With Cleo in mind, he tickled the strings and stroked the neck, caressing a deep, mellow tone from somewhere inside the guitar’s polished wood. He raised his hips and built a crescendo, bringing the guitar to a fucking scream. He’d like to make Cleo scream…

Knock, knock. Julian?”

With a pathetic flat wail, he tossed the guitar aside and hastily sat up.

Excuse me,” Cleo said, exploding into a scarlet blush. “I’m sorry…”

I was just playing guitar,” he stammered. Not wanking off.

My Review

*****5 Fantastic Stars*****

Color Me Crazy by Carol Pavliska was vibrant, bursting with good laughs and some serious heat, and had a story that enraptured me within its phenomenally musically and colorfully laced pages.

Basically, I loved every single word of this fantastic book.

One of my favorite aspects of this book was how unique it was. It had so many exceptional aspects that I’d never read before, and that’s just part of what made me love this book so much. One of the most unique aspects of this book was Julian’s synesthesia, causing him to see colors with every sound he heard. That added such a unique quality to this book, and the way this author weaves that into the story is phenomenal.

I could not get enough of seeing the effects of Julian’s synesthesia in Color Me Crazy, and how it not only affected him, but those closest to him as well. That aspect brought out so many interesting things from these characters and especially Julian and Cleo, and it just made me so enraptured in everything that I was reading because I wanted to know more. I had to know more. It was a pull I simply couldn’t resist.

I will admit that I have a soft spot for a book about a rock star. I loved that aspect to Color Me Crazy, and how music weaved its way so superbly into the story and into just who these characters are. This book though, was so much more than a book about a rock star. It was a book about choices, and figuring out what you want and what you want to fight for. It’s about taking risks and giving it your all, and trying to piece together what it is you need.

Color Me Crazy is bursting with passion and color and life. It’s also filled with some hard choices and decisions, realness and flaws. The way that this author puts all of that together creates a story that is superbly balanced and just highly enjoyable to read.

I simply could not get enough of Cleo and Julian’s characters. Let me tell you, those two are two engaging and fiercely spunky characters that you’re just going to love. They cast a lively effervescent spell over the entire story, and it just pulls you in like a moth to a flame. They’re both bursting with wonderfully distinctive personalities, and there is also such a real level of authenticity to them that you experience as you get to know them over the course of this book. Color Me Crazy allows you to see them, flaws and all, and that just makes you love their dynamic characters more because you’re given the outstanding opportunity to see the real them. And the real them is nothing short of amazing to read.

Cleo was such an outstandingly fierce female character. I immediately loved and connected to her character the moment I met her in this book. She was fun and spunky and she gave Julian a run for his money with her fiery personality. She was also extremely relatable, and I loved getting to know her over the course of the story because I felt like I really understood her character and why she felt the way that she did. I also just loved that Cleo was such a fighter. She never wavered and never gave in, and in her own vibrant way she gave it all she had, which just invigorated me as I read this book. It also made me love her to pieces.

Now Julian was pretty much to die for. He was charming, and stubborn, and he could be a butt when he wanted to be, but underneath all of that was a man who was reeling from one heck of a past. As that past thoughtfully comes across in this book, you really get a full picture of the real Julian. Of his flaws, of his vulnerabilities, of his worries. Getting to experience that just made my heart go to him repeatedly over the course of this book. It also helped that that man practically charmed my pants off with what was coming out of his mouth.

The way that Julian and Cleo’s relationship develops over the course of this story makes a world of sense and it just fits the story that is being told. There are definitely some very big ups and downs, and some twists I did not see coming, all of which just pulled me in more to what I was reading. This author does such a fantastic job of showing the connection and feelings that these characters share and that just bursts from the pages of this book. The passion, care, and desire these two share for one another emanates from the story, and it just makes you want to those two to figure out what in the world it is that they’re sharing.

In Color Me Crazy you also get some very engaging and distinctive supporting characters that just add to the overall fantasticness that is this story. Each of those remarkable characters adds their own little piece to the story, and I loved reading their interaction with each other and with Julia and Cleo. Those interactions ranged from hysterical to serious to extremely meaningful, and I loved every moment I got to spend with all of those phenomenal characters.

This story was so fantastically written, and the way Carol Pavliska writes and creates is just magnificent and so enthralling. I loved her writing style and how it just allowed me right into the story with these characters. She also created a story that had me laughing myself silly. I could not stop smiling while reading Color Me Crazy, and I adored how that humor burst from this book and these characters.

While this book gives you plenty of humor, it also gives you more emotion and feeling than you can shake a stick at. The way that this author wrote and created those feelings and emotions allows you to experience them all right along with the characters. That puts you right in the story with them, feeling what they are, fighting the same demons they fight, breaking with them, elating with them, and everything else in between. You feel their fire, every varied and thoughtfully crafted feeling they have, and that just makes reading this story extraordinary because you get to experience it fully.

Color Me Crazy is an outstanding book that will give you so much. It will give you two vibrantly passionate and extremely authentic characters that you’ll love whole heartedly. It will give you a story that will pull at your heart, make you laugh and smile again and again, and allow you to experience everything these characters do. It will also make you fall more and more under the spell that these characters create with every word you read.

This book, this author’s writing, and these characters are utterly phenomenal. They’re truly extraordinary and I couldn’t recommend them all to you more.

Carol Pavliska began her writing career as a family humor columnist and blogger, a pursuit she abandoned when her children became old enough to realize they were being exploited. To save them from further embarrassment, she turned to writing fiction.
Her debut novel is a steamy contemporary romance, so unfortunately, the kids are still embarrassed.

When she’s not creating unrealistic expectations as a romance writer (ripped abs, dramatic temperaments, and eyes like bottomless pools of Hey Girl), she functions quite nicely in her real world, which consists of a delightfully stable husband and five children.
Carol and her husband, both die hard Red Hot Chili Peppers fans, raise their vegan brood of mortified offspring on a cattle ranch in South Texas. No lie.

 Synopsis2

First comes a nickel,
Then comes a shove,

Then comes loss only conquered by his love.

This is the story of my first true love. The story of how the boy next door protected me, became my best friend, stole my heart, and rescued me from my darkest despair.

 ExcerptTommy

Loss. The recurring theme of the last few months.

First it was her parents—my second parents. They treated me like their own even if they had their doubts about my not-so-pure feelings towards their young daughter. Their death crushed me. I couldn’t let Gabriella see it because I had to be her rock. But my heart still clenches tight with hurt when I think about Mr. and Mrs. Rossi no longer living on this planet.

Then came the slow and gradual loss of the girl who means more to me than anything. I watched as all happiness and joy disappeared from her life with that one single phone call. She hasn’t been the same. She’s so distant and cold. Not just to me—to Gina too. We talk about it all the time. How much we miss the old spunky, vibrant Gabby. How we worry about her. How we have to let her go through the grieving process in her own way.

That part’s the worst because I can’t fucking stand watching her push me away. She’s dying inside—broken—and all I want to do is piece her back together. But she won’t let me. She won’t let me do what I know I can. So I bite my tongue and take my anger out on the basketball court or the boxing bag. Seeing me angry won’t send her running back into my arms.

But tonight? This rejection is the worse loss yet.

I’ve managed to smother her—her words—by caring for her. My selfish need to keep her close and protect her have caused her to let me go. For the first time in my life, I understand the pain of a broken heart. She’s the only girl who’s ever owned it, and without her I’m not whole.

When I get back to my house, head hung low like a beaten dog, I toss the red box on the table and watch it skid in my father’s direction.

“You were right. Happy?” I growl.

Swallowing back his beer, he arches a brow. “Told you so.”

Three words I never like hearing—especially from my smug asshole of a father. Instead of pounding my fists into his gray-bearded face, I turn my back to start off to my bedroom. I can make better use of my time by packing.

My old man stops me with a gruff, patronizing laugh. “Boy, your need to fix things don’t work on the unfixable. She’s damaged goods. Don’t waste your time.”

I suck in a deep breath, and tighten my fists so hard my nails dig into my palms. Do not deck your father, Tommy. He’s not worth it. Turning to face him, I stare hard into his bloodshot eyes. “You don’t know shit about me and Gabriella. And I would never give up on her because she’s not a waste of anything. And maybe it seems like things are dark right now, but there’s nothing damaged about the beautiful girl she is and the incredible woman I know she’ll become.”

He takes another pull of his beer, slamming the empty bottle down on the table. “Suit yourself. Throw your life away before it’s even begun.”

Rushing toward the table, I get within inches of his face and growl, “Just because you’re unhappy with the way your life turned out doesn’t mean you have to take it out on me. Stay the hell out of it and save your misconstrued sense of wisdom to yourself. I’ve never needed it before and I don’t count on needing it ever again.”

I stalk off to my room, grumbling under my breath. He’s a misery. Has been for as long as I can remember, and the fact I’m doing things he never could at my age makes him resent his own flesh and blood and the struggles of being a lesser man. And my poor mother is just a naïve victim to his shit.

I’m over it.

I can’t wait to get the fuck out of here. Away from their scrutiny, away from their disapproval. My parents never appreciated my passion for Gabriella and our future. They always told me I was being stupid with my heart by giving it away too soon. They didn’t want to accept that I’d found a kind of love in Gabriella and her family that I lacked here. My parents are decent people, just not loving people. The Rossi’s gave me more.

As I toss shit haphazardly into boxes, I replay so many Gabriella memories in my head with tears burning at the back of my eyes. The beginning—when we were kids and would laugh all day while we played man hunt in the scorching summer sun. The middle—when I admired Gabriella as she grew into a beautiful girl with curves that made my mouth water and lips that made my dick think things it shouldn’t be thinking at that age. The end—is this the fucking end?

My Review*****5 AMAZING STARS*****

Even before I started this novella, I knew that I was going to be in for one gloriously emotional story that would probably make me cry, feel a lot, and just experience everything this story had. First Came You made me do all of that and more, and I couldn’t be more happy about getting all of that. It was nothing short of breathtakingly beautiful to experience. Even the tears and heart squeezes this story gave me were oh so worth it because of what they let me experience with these characters.

I’m not going to lie that there was a very small part of me that was a tad apprehensive about reading this story because I knew where it would eventually lead, as I read and LOVED every single phenomenal word of Feel Again, the book that this novella prequels.

Though I did know where Tommy and Gabriella’s story would eventually take them both, First Came You offers the extraordinary opportunity to see where it all began with them. You get the beginning where their magic started. Where their pathways crossed and began weaving together, and where this unforgettable story with these exceptional characters began.

That beginning is wondrous, phenomenally emotional, and life changing in every way.

I loved, and I mean loved every single piece of this novella. Faith Andrews is one of my favorite authors for a reason. Not only does her writing allow you to slip right into the magnificent world that she creates in her books, the way she writes and develops her stories and characters allows you the exceptional chance to feel what you’re reading. You’re not just going to read this story, you’re going to feel it with every ounce of everything you’ve got, and that just pulls you and connects you into everything.

It brings it to life. It makes you feel and think and experience everything right along with Gabriella and Tommy. You feel their joy, their wonder, their longing, and their butterflies. You experience the heartbreaking moments, you cry for them, and you break for them. You also get the incredible opportunity to get them. To understand them, and to love and care for their characters with all that you’ve got. That is everything, and it’s a huge part of why I loved every word of this story.

What Faith Andrews gives you in a story allows you the chance to connect to wholly unique and endearing characters while becoming fully enraptured in their world and enthralling story. First Came You was no different, and just reiterated why I love this author’s books so much.

One of my favorite things about this story was getting to know Tommy and Gabriella better. This novella allows you the amazing chance to see them at so many different points in their lives and relationship. You see them grow and develop and change. You get to see how their feelings for one another evolve and deepen, and that just amplifies everything that you’re reading. It also invests you more and more in the both of them. You will truly feel how deeply these two feel and care for one another. When you meet them and read their story in First Came You, you will just want more of them, more of their magic, and more of the thoughtfully crafted feelings and emotions that come with them.

Gabriella’s character was simply wonderful. She was real and so easy to relate to, and I loved getting to know about how her character came to be who she was in the past and present. Reading about this part of her life was just phenomenal, and I have to say that it connects so well into the story that comes after this one. Gabriella goes through so much in this novella, and experiencing that with her hurt my heart at times, but then at other moments, especially those with Tommy, it made my heart melt right along with hers. Gabriella is such an endearing character that you will emotionally connect to the instant you begin this story. You will love and care and feel for her immensely throughout every page of this story and the next. (This goes without saying, but you must read the next one!! You simply must read Feel Again!!)

Now Tommy’s character pretty much stole my heart from the moment I met him. I shouldn’t be surprised at that though because Faith Andrews knows how to create a male character I practically want to marry the instant I get to know them. Tommy was no different. He was just an all-around good guy with a heart of gold that shined brightly and seamlessly throughout this story. I was just enamored by his character, and I loved getting to know him even though it was immensely bittersweet. My heart broke for him at times in this story, but through all the ups and downs this story threw at him and Gabriella, my heart mainly just went to him and all that he was doing for her. He fought for like crazy for her, he believed in her and in them, and he never stopped pushing for everything he knew they wanted and deserved.

This novella gives you the incredible chance to get to know his character and to realize why he is so important to Gabriella and to the story itself, while also giving you the beautiful foundation to these characters and their stories and their lives. It also just gives you the chance to love Tommy’s character, and even in the moments when my heart almost hurt because of how much I loved his character, it was all worth it because he was so worth it, and Gabriella and Tommy together were so brilliantly worth it.

First Came You is a novella that gives you so much. So much thoughtfully crafted emotion and feeling that you’ll feel deep in your heart. So much love and connection that will grow and grow the more you read. So much of everything that makes a story simply wonderful. This novella gives you it all, and when you reach its end, you will just want to keep feeling and experiencing all of its amazingness.

Faith Andrews gives you one heck of a story with Gabriella and Tommy. It’s breathtaking and beautiful and emotional as all get out, and that is just a fraction of what makes it utterly outstanding. The writing, characters, and story itself will just enrapture you within it all, and in the end you will be thrilled with every wondrous thing it gave you.

First Came You gives you Tommy and Gabriella’s emotionally beautiful journey together. It’s a story that will have you feeling and thinking and experiencing many things, but most of all, it’ll have you believing whole heartedly in the power and beauty of all consuming, deep in your heart, love. And there’s nothing more perfect or wonderful than experiencing and believing in that. Trust me.

Synopsis2

What’s the worst thing about wanting a sexy NFL football player? Everyone else wants him, too.

After catching my boyfriend getting deep-throated by a skanky cage girl, I’ve learned my lesson – never date a professional athlete. Never. Besides, I have more important things to worry about, like not blowing my shot to make it as a broadcast reporter. I won’t let anything get in my way, not even the new “it boy” of the NFL and my hot-as-hell neighbor.

What’s the worst thing about getting death glares from his new neighbor? It doesn’t make him want her any less.

I’ve worked my ass off to make it to the pros. The last thing I need is the complication of a relationship, especially since my last one was a total train wreck. But I can’t stop thinking about the feisty girl next door with the smart mouth. And I’d love nothing more than to show her what to do with that mouth.

Friends with benefits might be the best idea he’s ever had. Or the worst.

My Review

*****5 EXTRAORDINARY STARS*****

The first thing I want to say about Kissing Madeline by Lex Martin, besides the fact that it is utterly fabulous and by far one of my favorite books of the year, is that I don’t know if I’ve ever felt so happy while reading a book.

I read this entire book with a huge as heck smile on my face because that’s how much I LOVED it. That’s how much I loved me some Maddie and Daren something fierce with every part of my heart. That’s how much I was captivated by their vibrant and passionate and superb story. That’s how much I relished in every single wondrous feeling and thought and emotion I got to experience while reading Kissing Madeline.

My cheeks literally hurt after reading this book because I was smiling so much. That my friends is just one of the many tells Kissing Madeline gives you to let you know you are reading an extraordinary book.

I felt every ounce of this book. It was so lively and it just enraptured me from the moment I began reading. It had an effervescent spark to it that just leapt off of the pages, and that just invigorated and pulled me in more as I experienced this book. That spark embodied Kissing Madeline, and created a literary magic that seamlessly weaved its way throughout every magnificent corner of this book.

Lex Martin clearly knows how to create and develop characters that are real, and charming, and passionate. I love, love, love Daren and Maddie, and all of the fantastically distinctive characters that came with them in this book.

I especially loved how the characters were all about owning up to their mistakes and their pasts and their choices, seeing where they could go from there, and how they could be better. Kissing Madeline explores what happens when both Daren and Maddie try their best at working through all that makes up their pasts and presents, while they try to figure out what in the world their future could hold, and that was nothing short of wonderful to read.

Daren was a heart melting, football throwing, charming as all get out male character. He was also just a good guy that practically had me swooning at every turn. He charmed my pants off with his charisma and dynamic personality that illuminated so much about him. Ever since meeting his character in Dearest Clementine, I’ve been looking forward to getting into his head, and boy was that a pretty darn fantastic place to be. Through his perspective you see a new side to him, and the more time I spent with him the more I just fell in love with his character. You see and feel the goodness that emanates from him, but also this honesty and authenticity that allows you to see the real Daren.

Madeline is fierce with a capital F. She truly is a power unto herself, she is so headstrong, and she has such a big heart. The instant I met her I was just drawn to her because of the tenacity and heart and care that just flows out of her in the best possible ways. Maddie was such a beautiful character to get to know both inside and out, and she’s someone I wish I could call a friend because her character is just so amazing. I loved that Maddie was so determined, and that she was fighting with all her might for what she wanted. I respected and admired her immensely because of that. Lex Martin created her in such a way that made her so real to me, and relating to her and feeling that strong of a connection to Maddie was just one of the many aspects that made this book exceptional to me.

Now this book explores the firework level connection that Daren and Maddie share. That connection requires some heavy duty fanning at points, and it’s definitely heart melting and will certainly cause the urge to pant. Daren and Maddie are HOT together. But underneath all that heat, chemistry, and passion that Lex Martin so fantastically gives you, is a whole heck of a lot of feeling that pulls both Daren and Maddie deeper than they ever expected. You get to feel and experience that powerful connection and the serious draw they have to one another. Experiencing that just amplifies every single thing happening between Daren and Maddie, and shows you just how right these two could be for one another if they’d just give it a shot and take the risk.

One of my very favorite aspects of Kissing Madeline, was that Lex Martin creates two very strong characters where it’s real easy to see what pulls them together because of the qualities they both possess, but she also gives those strong characters moments to be vulnerable.

It’s those moments of vulnerability that will still your heart when you experience them because of what they give you. Those moments of vulnerability just captivate you too, and they allow you to give your heart fully to Daren and Maddie because you see all that they’ve gone through and are presently going through. While they are both strong, tenacious, and charismatic, they are real and have moments of need too. Moments where they’re not so strong, moments when they truly let their guard down and pull those walls away, and really getting to know and feel that left me in awe because of what it allowed me to feel and experience with them.

That’s also one of the many aspects that pulls you emotionally into this book. Throughout reading you will feel and think and experience and wonder and question the same exact things these characters do because of how superbly this author writes this book.

What is so great about a book by Lex Martin, is that along with all that wonderful emotion and feeling and passion you experience with Daren and Maddie, you’re going to get the most amazing banter and fun too. I laughed my butt off reading this book at times because of what these characters were saying and doing. The lightness and humor that comes from that banter and sarcasm and just plain fun adds another fantastic layer to what you’re reading, and just makes you love it all more.

Kissing Madeline also has the perfect balance of sweet and sexy to go along with the realness and seriousness you get too. It truly gives you just the right amount of everything that you could possibly want from this story and its characters.

Not only do you get that fun and vibrancy from Daren and Maddie, but you also get it from the wonderful supporting characters that round out this book and series. I have an immense desire to be friends with each and every one of them in real life. Like, I need to make that happen somehow! They all feel real, crack you up, and just make the world of this book and series a place you don’t ever want to leave. They’re silly, and sarcastic, and witty, and dirty mouthed and minded, and that’s just a fraction of what makes them all distinctively spectacular. Clementine, Gavin, Dani, Jax, Quentin, and all the rest just help glue the amazing pieces of this book together, and I promise you that you will love them all to pieces.

Lex Martin’s writing is fresh and seamless, and puts you right into the exceptional and unforgettably lively world of these characters. You really do feel like you’re there with them living through this book. How she magnificently develops these characters, pushes them to find themselves, and conveys every single emotion they have in a way that allows you to experience and understand and feel it all, is simply brilliant and so thoughtfully accomplished.

All of that makes Daren and Maddie and their story remarkable, relatable, and highly enjoyable. It gives you a book that you thoroughly enjoy, and truly don’t want to let go of. I cannot say enough how much I have loved this series, especially this book. These characters are some of my all-time favorites, and this last book and Daren and Maddie’s incredible story just reiterates why this series and why this author are downright amazing.

Kissing Madeline is a story about taking a risk and giving it your all, even when that scares the bejesus out of you. It’s about throwing caution to the wind and exploring that what if because that what if and that risk could be worth it all if you let it be. Kissing Madeline gives you Daren and Maddie and their charismatic, charming, and oh so strong selves, and it allows you to fall in love with them over the course of their beautifully vibrant and breathtaking story.

This book is a truly exceptional read, and I could continue to go on and on about how much I loved it and how much it made me smile and laugh and tear up and swoon. How it made my heart race, melt, and squeeze at times, and how truly happy I was to read and experience every outstanding thing it gave me.

But all you really need to know is that Kissing Madeline is perfection, it is a book that will give you everything, and when you read the magnificently fierce thing that it is, you won’t ever truly forget it and what it so genuinely gave you.

Finding Dandelion Official Cover

When soccer all-star Jax Avery collides with Dani Hart on his twenty-first birthday, their connection is instantaneous and explosive. For the first time in years, Jax isn’t interested in his usual hit-it and quit-it approach.

So when Jax doesn’t recognize Dani the next time he sees her, it shouldn’t be a total shock. The fact that he’s her new roommate’s brother? That’s a shock.

Dani doesn’t regret that night with Jax, just the need to lie about it. Since her roommate has made it clear what she thinks about her brother’s “type” of girl, the last thing Dani wants is to admit what happened.

Jax knows he’s walking a fine line on the soccer team. One more misstep and he’s off the roster, his plans to go pro be damned. Except he can’t seem to care. About anything… except for the one girl who keeps invading his dreams.

Despite Jax’s fuzzy memory of his hot hookup with his sister’s friend, he can’t stay away from her, even if that means breaking his own rules. But there are bigger forces at work–realities that can end Dani’s college career and lies that can tear them apart. Jax realizes what he’s losing if Dani walks away, but will he sacrifice his future to be with her? And will she let him if he does?

*****5 AMAZING Stars*****

When I started reading this book, I knew just from the synopsis that it was going to be something different than I had read before. I was ready for that because I love me something different. I also knew it was going to be something very different than anything I’d ever read from Tessa Teevan before. That had me very curious, as I’ve LOVED all of her other books, and I was curious how this one would be.

I knew all of that going into Instigation, but I did not realize how wholly enrapturing this story and its phenomenal characters would be. From the instant I started the prologue, I was hooked. Once I started I couldn’t stop until I reached the end, and when I reached the end of this remarkable book, I was practically dying for more.

When you read Instigation, when you experience the immense pull of this book you will hit the ground running and you will not stop until the very end. Literally.

That is only part of what made this book an exceptional read. The story that Tessa Teevan thoughtfully wrote was unique, enthralling, and pushed the boundaries just enough to make me love every single word of it.

What I loved about Instigation:

  • Mystery and suspense galore! Instigation has a ton of mystery and suspense weaving its way through the story. Each chapter gives you one more piece to the puzzle, and in the end of this book you will still be trying to figure out some of those pieces, but that’s what made this book so phenomenal to read. Wanting to figure out more to the intricate puzzle that is this story and its dynamic characters just pulled me right into the thick of this book because I had to know what was going on. This book has suspense by the bucket load, and that adds another wonderful layer to what you’re reading.
  • The edge in this book. This book is a tad darker, a little edgier, and it pushes the limits in the right amount of ways. I loved that I got this from one of my favorite authors, as it was something very different than I’ve ever read from her before. The edge that this book allows you to experience helps bring the story to life as you read it, and you are going to love how that edge pushes these characters, and in turn pushes you as the reader as you take it all in.
  • The real Gabriella. Gabriella’s character was magnificent. Over the course of Instigation you will get to see many different sides to her. You see her in the beginning before she met Adrian, you see what she became after meeting him, and then you get to see her as she slowly but surely finds her real self again. As this story unfolds so does Gabriella’s character, and getting to know the real Gabriella was outstanding. She has such a realness to her, and you really understand and feel everything that she does because of how this author writes her character. The real side to her is breathtaking and fantastically written, and it just exemplified the true strength and tenacity of her character.
  • Rafe to the rescue. Rafe’s character completely enraptured me throughout this entire book. Not only did he melt my heart repeatedly and bring a certain kind of blush to my cheeks, there were so many dynamic layers to him. You don’t fully understand his motives or what’s really going on with him, but you do know he’s drawn to Gabriella like a moth to a flame. He cannot stay away from her, and you will feel how much care, and passion, and desire he has for her on practically every page. Even though there is a serious amount of mystery surrounding his intentions, there is a goodness to him that shines through in the way that he is towards Gabriella. His protectiveness, his desire to push her to find herself, and his want to take away the darkness in her life just exemplified a lot about his character.
  • Adrian is one intriguing SOB. Adrian’s character was one that I was very intrigued by. I didn’t necessarily love him or even like him at all. I was so fascinated by his character because of all the stages you see his character go through in Instigation. It was so enjoyable while reading this book to try to figure out what in the world was going on with him, what he was up to, and how that all connected into the story. Adrian is most definitely no Boy Scout, and there’s a serious level of eccentricity, crazy, and darkness to him, but I could not get enough of trying to figure him out in this story.
  • All the passion and heat. Let me tell you that you will get tons and tons of passion and heat in this book. The instant Rafe and Gabriella are together it fires off the page and it just pulls you into their story more because of the depth and shear passion behind what they feel for one another. You will feel the connection between them in your bones, and that will just amplify everything they are feeling and doing and thinking. The passion and heat that Gabriella and Rafe share brings the significance of their relationship to an extraordinary level.
  • How it all comes to be. You really do hit the ground running when reading this book, and I can’t say enough how much that works for the story being told between these fantastic pages. When you read Instigation your pulse will race, your breath will catch, and your heart will be pounding like crazy at times as you experience the twisting and turning events of the book. How this book comes to be through all of those seamlessly placed and created events just makes this book the outstanding thing that it is.
  • The past and all the questions. This is the first book in the series, so it gives you plenty of questions, a few answers, and plenty of more questions, but that’s what made this book. That leaves you more than ready for more from these characters, and this author sets up this series exceptionally. It was fantastic to learn parts of the past and to see how things came to be, but it was even more invigorating to have more questions come up as I read this book. Instigation is the foundation of what’s to come, and you get the right amount of the past and present of these characters. This author could not have done a better job creating a solid beginning to what is sure to be an epic story.
  • I love me some POV. I really enjoyed that Instigation was told mostly in Gabriella’s point of view as that solidified my love of her character, but I also loved that Rafe’s point of view was added in at some very specific points that illuminated a lot. This author clearly put a lot of thought into when we got to step into his handsome head. Both of their points of views were distinctive and worked superbly together as they weaved their way through the story. You learn so much from them both and get to experience so much, and that was just the best.

Instigation was another extraordinary read by Tessa Teevan. I absolutely love this author’s style of writing, and this book just reiterated that tenfold. I loved every phenomenal word she gave me, what it allowed me to experience with these very unique characters, and what it let me feel and think and experience as I dove into all the mystery and suspense that is Instigation.

This book will make you think and wonder and question like crazy, and that’s what makes it so good because it allows you to become fully enraptured into the world of this book with these characters. You will not be able to stop thinking about any of it, you’ll be wondering where it’s all going to go, and you’ll be racking your brain trying to put it all together. Getting to experience all of that during and after reading this book is nothing short of exceptional, and it gives you a truly unforgettable read with the perfect amount of romance, passion, mystery, darkness, and edge.

I loved every single distinctive and wondrous piece Instigation, and I cannot freaking wait to get my hands on the next piece of this thrilling series.

Excerpt

A devilish, almost villainous grin graced his lips as his eyes filled with amusement. “Oh, Gabriella, you’ve no idea,” he said. “I shouldn’t do this. I shouldn’t be here, but I can’t seem to help myself.”

His words caught me off guard as his hands gripped my hips and he pushed me backwards until the brick of the wall bit into the skin of my lower back. He leaned down until his lips were dangerously close to mine. My insides quivered, and my heart leaped into my throat. For an entire week, I’d been waiting for his hands to be on me again, and now that he was right there, I knew I’d die if he didn’t touch me. Kiss me. Take me home and ravish me like he had that first night.

“Adrian,” I whispered, surprised at the breathy, sultry tone of my voice. God, it’d only been a week and I was already dangerously addicted to him.

His eyes gleamed as if he could read my mind, and I wondered if this has been his plan all along. To give me a taste, a perfect sneak peek at what being his would be like, and then take it away, only to keep showing up to tease me. To dangle the proverbial carrot on the string that was too high for me to get a taste or even the slightest nibble. It would suffice only for a moment, but it would be just enough to keep me from going insane. He was a deranged Pavlov and I was his little dog, salivating and panting, wanting him, that torturous bell ringing over and over again, but instead of giving me what I wanted, he kept it too far out of reach.

Sail
Book Two in The Wake Series
by M. Mabie
Blog Tour 13th – 25th April
Synopsis2
This isn’t just a two-year long one-night stand. It’s my life.
This is my life. Our life. It isn’t just some careless affair.
I’ve made the worst decisions a woman could, but I’ll earn my second chance.
She can try keeping all the guilt for herself, but I’m just as much to blame.
Loving Casey wasn’t my biggest mistake. Fighting it for so long was.
I’ll show her how fearless our love makes me. I’ll protect her torn heart.
He still has magic in his eyes. He’s the man who makes me happy.
Her voice still brings me to my knees. She says my name like it’s sacred.
I live for the day when I’m his. To take care of him. To love him the way he deserves.
I can’t wait to be all she needs. I can give her a happy life, security and so much love.
Sometimes two ships never meet in the night, but ours did.
Sometimes the water is rough. It beats you all to hell until you have no choice but get stronger.
Our love story reads more like a tragedy, but to me it’s clean and pure.
Let them point their fingers. Without a love like ours, they haven’t really lived. I pity them.
I’m a cheating wife and a villain. I am his honeybee.
I’m a snake in the grass and I sleep best when I’m lying next to his wife.
I want to be his everything.
I’m nothing without her anyway.
This isn’t even close to over.
It’ll never be over.

My Review

 *****5 PHENOMENAL STARS*****

To say I loved this book and everything it gave me, is the understatement of the century.

I don’t even think love is a strong enough verb for what I felt reading Sail by M. Mabie. It’s definitely not a strong enough verb to describe the immense amount of feeling and adoration I had for Blake and Casey’s unique, authentic, and enamoring characters. It’s also nowhere near a strong enough verb to tell you how utterly phenomenal and exceptionally crafted this chapter of their story was.

This book owned me. Blake and Casey and all that came with them, owned me. Everything Sail and its story gave me, owned me.

And you know what? I’ve never been more ecstatic to be owned by fictional characters in my life.

After first meeting Blake and Casey in their magnificently angst filled story in Bait, I was more than ready to dive back into the next chapter of their story. Bait set the bar very high, and M. Mabie just blew me away with how she created and pushed these characters to their limits in that book, so I was very curious to see where this part of the story would take Blake and Casey.

Sail not only took Blake and Casey to some pretty darn extraordinary places, it also left me in awe of what I got to experience right along with them. I can’t say enough how much this part of their story just made sense for their relationship. It was the perfect next step for them after all they’d been through, as they continued their fight to be with one another. The way M. Mabie exceptionally develops this book and Blake and Casey’s characters is superb, and she pushes them just the right amount in this book.

One of the aspects I loved most about reading Sail was reading and experiencing how much Casey and Blake’s characters evolved over the course of the story. M. Mabie gives you the phenomenal chance to see and feel and experience their evolution fully. You get to see Blake and Casey try to be better. You get inside both of their dynamic and exceptional heads, and get to feel and hear and see and think what they do, as they grow and develop as characters. You get to experience all of the fight those two go through in order to make themselves better, in order to be better together, and that is nothing short of extraordinary to experience.

Blake is a character that I just love whole heartedly. That girl is flawed and has made some less than wonderful choices, especially when it came to Casey, and even though I love her fiercely, even I shook my head sometimes at what she chose to do in Bait. But Sail gives you a new side to Blake, a grown up side to her that will heal the many cracks in your heart that the old Blake might’ve helped create. The Blake in this book is still flawed and authentic as all get out and she is so very real to me, but what I loved most about the Blake in this book was how much she tried and pushed and fought to be better, to make better choices, and to be the woman that both she and Casey deserved. The Blake in this book grows up a lot, and her owning up to her mistakes and trying to fix it all just solidified how fantastic her character is.

Blake is hands down, one of my favorite female characters I’ve ever read, and that is just a testament to M. Mabie’s truly exceptional creation, development, and writing of her character.

Now I am under the distinct notion that Casey Moore will own a solid chunk of my heart for the rest of time. Seriously. His character, his charm, and the essence of that man just stole my heart, squeezed it tight, all before melting it again because of all that he was in Sail. Casey is a huge part of what makes this book and series AMAZING. In Sail, along with Blake, Casey must change a bit in order to have a shot at what he and Blake are fighting for. The new and improved Casey in this book is just as charming and hot and witty as the Casey in Bait, except this Casey realizes what went wrong, takes some much needed culpability in it, and pushes with all his might to make himself and it all better. I know I loved Casey before, but seeing what he does and goes through in order to be better for Blake and for himself, just made it infinitely impossible not to fall more and more in headfirst, red pant wearing love with him.

Suffice to say, Casey is a male character to die for who is guaranteed to steal some piece of you forever. The amount of moments he literally had me swooning and panting and melting into a puddle of emotion in this book, just solidified how utterly outstanding his character is.

The same electric pull that pulled Blake and Casey together in Bait, is ever present and more intensified in Sail. That connection draws them together like two magnets unable to resist the pull towards one another, and you will be pulled into it all too, making all that they feel and experience seem so very real. Blake and Casey’s connection and relationship is defined by the shear passion they have, how visceral it is at times, and just the fire that ignites them both when they are together, but also by the depth of feeling and care they have for one another that weaves its way beautifully into this book.

I promise you that you will not doubt the feelings that Blake and Casey share throughout Sail, and their connection is sure to bring a certain kind of heat to your cheeks and the most wonderful warmth to your heart. The banter, the charm, and the fun between Blake and Casey is perfect, and the meaning behind their words and their actions and their love in this book is even more perfect, and it just exemplifies what it is that they’re fighting for, and why it is so worth it.

I’ve also never been jealous of a hammock before, so props to M. Mabie for making that thought come into my head!

Because of how M. Mabie so wonderfully crafted and wrote this book, when you read Sail you’ll be living through it all with these characters. You’ll feel every ounce of emotion and feeling and vulnerability that they characters bravely put out there. You’ll feel every bit of fight that permeates this book in the best possible way. You’ll feel the love, the hate, the pain, the healing, and everything in between as Blake and Casey try to fix what they have in order to be together.

While this book makes the most superb kind of sense for Blake and Casey and their relationship, it is also filled with more WTF and OMG moments than you can shake a stick at. Those moments just throw you into the story more, and each new event that comes Blake and Casey’s way will have you more and more enthralled because of how those two handle it. Some of those moments brought tears to my eyes for many reasons, others made my heart start racing like crazy, and often my breath was taken away by what I was reading. Experiencing that is just part of what makes this book so outstanding.

Not to be outdone by the fantasticness of Blake and Casey, the supporting characters that glue all the wondrous pieces of this book together are back, and better than ever. Sail allows these characters to become part of Blake and Casey’s story in such an amazing way because now everyone knows what’s going on, and reading how all these distinctive and engaging characters interact with Blake and Casey is just brilliant. I cannot wait to get my grubby little paws on more of them, cough Reggie cough, because they are all unique and fun and enamoring, and I’ve got no doubt that they each have one fabulous story to tell.

Like I said, Sail owned me. It owned every part of me while I was reading. It owned my thoughts, my feelings, and most assuredly my heart.

This book and all that it gave me was exactly what I needed and more than I even knew I needed from Blake and Casey. I loved this book immensely. Blake and Casey’s story in Sail is beautiful and breathtaking and the perfect amount of everything. Its defined by so many phenomenal aspects that make it such an exceptional story to experience, and all of that is possible because of M. Mabie’s remarkable and extraordinary writing. She creates a world and a set of characters that will enrapture you the instant you meet them, and you’re never going to want to let them go. Ever.

Sail was a beyond extraordinary addition to this series, and this author just made me love Blake and Casey land so fiercely once again. This book was everything, and it gave me everything, and as much as I never want them to end, I for one cannot wait for the conclusion to Blake and Casey’s story in Anchor.

Sail tells the next chapter in Blake and Casey’s story. It will push them to places they never thought they’d be, and it’ll push you as the reader while you’re along for the phenomenal ride, and in the end you’ll just be thrilled that you had the chance to experience the utter magnificence that is Blake and Casey’s story in Sail.

Excerpt

The room was dimly lit with the few lights we’d left on. It was late, and even though I was tired from travel and just life in general, I craved the feel of him.
Our suite was warm, void of chill or worry. In the bedroom, we didn’t bother with a light, knowing where everything was by memory.
He guided me to bed. He let my hair down and brushed it off my shoulders, and then he held me close and pressed his lips to mine. Casey laid us down so softly I barely knew we were moving until I felt the fluffy pillow under my head.
I deepened our kiss and moaned when his body pressed against mine.
“We’re not going to have sex tonight, Blake,” he said breathlessly around my lips. Why? I wanted him so badly. Just like that. Slow and easy.
I tried to evict thoughts of uncertainty from my mind, but they snuck in with his words. His behavior was contradictory. He’d shown me nothing but affection and care since we saw each other in the airport.
Why wouldn’t he make love to me?
Old demons felt the need to speak up.
What if he doesn’t want you after the chase? What if he only likes the thrill?
I felt my body begin to tense for the first time since we’d arrived. The hands that had been wandering across his back stilled. The leg I had started to wrap around his waist slowly began falling to the side.
“Hey, where are you going,” he said, as he kissed my neck and ran a hand through my hair to the nape of my neck.
“I don’t understand,” I contested. “I want you.” He shifted his weight and I felt how hard he was against my inner thigh. He was definitely turned on. So what was his deal? “Don’t you want me, too?”
“Mmmm,” he breathed near my ear. “God, I want you.” His big right hand hitched my leg back around his hip and he palmed my ass, bringing my dress up to my waist in the process and exposing my pale pink underwear. “I’ve wanted you day and night for so long now. I don’t know how to not want you.” He spoke between kisses and rubbed his nose along my clavicle. Then he bit me gently at the crook of my neck. “But there’ve been too many times I’ve let that need for you cloud my focus.”
“But I—”
“No, Blake. Not tonight. Tonight, I’m going to make you come and then I’m going to sleep next to you. I’m going to fall asleep with you in my arms. All those nights I missed out on holding you and feeling you next to me. I stole them from both of us being scared and stubborn.
I have to be better this time. I see all that you’re doing and I’m so damn proud of you, honeybee,” he said calmly. “But I want more than just physical things from you. It isn’t that I don’t want you. Fuck, do I want you. But I need all of you. Not just this.” He moved against my center and I knew I had to change his mind. After hearing those sweet
words, I had to have him and I wasn’t going to fight fair.
“Please, Casey. Fuck me.”
He growled and pressed his forehead to my chest. “You’re evil.” He laughed. I wished he sounded defeated, but mostly he sounded amused. “You’re not making it easy for me to be noble.”
“Don’t be noble then,” I said as I wound my arms around him and
pulled him closer to me.
“If you knew what I was thinking about doing to you, you’d know I wasn’t.” He rolled partially over toward the center of the bed and ran his hand under my dress and up to my breast.
“Then tell me,” I shamelessly suggested.
The tips of his fingers roamed down my stomach and my pulse sped up. His fingers slid under the sheer fabric of my underwear and my breaths came in spurts as I mentally begged him to keep going. I was so wound up.
“Don’t worry. I told you I’d take care of you.”

Prologue

Natalie

“Oh, Chloe, if you’d like to come out, please wait until your Daddy gets back,” I insist, holding my belly as another Braxton Hicks contraction hits. I grip the dresser and try to breathe through it. It seems like they’re coming more frequently.

Once it passes, I try to finish what I came in here for. Aaron is away, but I want the nursery done so we can enjoy the next few weeks once he returns. I walk around what will be her room, putting a few more of the pretty pink dresses in the drawers. Aaron and I have fought about the vast array of pink things that are now strewn around the house—he hates it, I love it.

He insisted we paint her room in camouflage. Brown, green, and black camouflage for a girl? No. I almost sent myself into labor with that argument. I got home and he and Mark were drawing it out on the walls. I launched various household items at Mark while throwing him out of the house. My husband found out shortly after how much he could suffer by my hands. I may not be a SEAL, but you don’t mess with me either. In the end, I won with purple walls and the sheer netting around her white crib.

“Daddy’s going to love this room, Chloe. I can’t wait to see his face when he sees the pretty butterflies.” Needing to take another break, I sit in the rocking chair and rub my stomach. It soothes me knowing she’s in there. I can protect her—it’s my job. I love being pregnant and it’s a miracle we were able to conceive her. I’ve already told Aaron I want to try for another one as soon as she’s born. I close my eyes and sink, allowing the world to fade away.

I imagine holding her in my arms, sitting here in this chair, soothing and kissing her. I picture Aaron with her asleep on his chest as she gets to hear his heartbeat. She’ll own his world and have him wrapped around her finger.

Knock, knock, knock.

I hear the door, but it takes me a few seconds to get out of the chair.

KNOCK, KNOCK, KNOCK.

They bang louder this time.

“Coming!” I yell at the door. Jeez, give me a second.

Waddling to the door takes me a minute since I’m the size of a whale.

I open the door and see Mark Dixon, Aaron’s boss and close friend. He works at Cole Security Forces with Aaron and served with him for years. His head is hanging low and when he looks up, his eyes are full of sorrow.

“What’s wrong?”

“Lee,” he chokes on the one syllable of my name. The one Aaron uses. Something is definitely not right.

“What happened?” I ask again as I begin to shake.

Tears fill his eyes and I know. I know my life is never going to be the same. I know everything I’ve ever feared is about to come true because Mark doesn’t cry. Mark wouldn’t be at my door if something weren’t really, really wrong. “It’s Aaron.”

My heart stops beating and the world I live in ceases to exist. “Don’t,” I beg with tears blurring my vision and my breath accelerating.

This can’t be happening.

“Please, don’t, Mark. Please,” I beg him again, because once he says it…but I know it’s futile. It doesn’t matter because he can’t stop it. It’s already happened.

“Natalie, I’m so sorry.”

The dreaded words that every military wife fears. Only I wasn’t supposed to have to worry about this anymore. We were done. We got out. I wasn’t supposed to ever fear this again.

Please, God, don’t take him from me. Please!

“But, I’m p-pregnant. I’m having a baby,” I stammer as if that will somehow make none of this real. “He said he’d be back. He said he…” I trail off as it becomes difficult to breathe. My hand flies to my mouth to stifle the scream about to escape. Everything goes colorless.

“It was an IED. I’m sorry,” Mark says as his eyes glimmer with unshed tears.

I fall.

But he’s there, cradling me in his arms. “I’m so fucking sorry.”

“No. No. No.” Mark holds me as I sob clutching my stomach. “You’re lying,” I hiss, tearing myself out of his embrace.

“I wish I were,” he says as I struggle to get up.

“It was a mistake. He’s having a baby. He said it was a simple in and out!” I scream and throw my hands against his chest. “You’re lying!” I scream, even knowing it’s not a lie.

“I’m sorry.”

“Stop saying you’re sorry!” My sorrow turns to hatred. I hate him. I hate everyone in this moment. I hate Aaron and everyone who was there. I hate this house and everything in it. I hate the air that he no longer breathes. Hate consumes me. Hate smothers me. “Get out!” I yell and push against his chest. “Get the fuck out of my house! Aaron will be back in a few days and then we’re going to get ready for our daughter to be born.”

“Please,” Mark beseeches and I refuse to look at him.

This isn’t happening because Aaron’s alive.

He’s not dead. How dare Mark lie to me.

“He’ll be back. He wouldn’t leave me. He promised.” Aaron wouldn’t lie to me. He never does. When he left for missions, he would always say goodbye like it could be our last. But this time he kissed the tip of my nose and said, “Now don’t have that baby until I get back.”

“Can I call someone? Your mom?”

“No, you can’t call anyone because he’s not dead! Go get him, Mark! Go get my husband and bring him home.” I step back pointing my finger at him. “You all promised. He promised.” I clutch my stomach as a sharp pain radiates, but it’s nothing compared to the agony sitting on my chest. Tears flow relentlessly as I struggle against his hold. “He promised.”

“I know he did,” Mark says as he holds my head against his chest.

“He lied.”

My life is gone.

My heart is dead.

I’m a widow at twenty-seven.

My Review

*****5 HEARTFELT STARS*****

As I sit here writing this review, I must admit that I am still fully under the charming, effervescent, and simply fantastic spell of Consolation. It’s only March, but I already know that this book will be one of my favorites of this year.

It was that good. It was that enthralling. It was that amount of everything that makes a book something truly wonderful.

Consolation is the first book in The Consolation Duet, and it is the third book I’ve read by Corinne Michaels. I absolutely loved her other two books to pieces, and Jackson Cole practically melted me, so clearly it wasn’t a stretch that I was going to love this one, although I have to say that I think I loved me some Natalie and Liam just a smidge bit more. (But don’t tell Jackson Cole that, because then things could get awkward, and that’s just unnecessary.)

Consolation tells the story of Natalie and Liam, two people who never thought they’d end up where they are. She’s a young widow with a baby, and he’s her deceased husband’s best friend. They’ve got one serious connection going on, and Consolation follows their remarkable characters as they try to make sense of all that’s happening. Consolation was definitely an emotional read with so many ups and downs, but that’s just part of what made me love it so much.

What I absolutely loved about Consolation:

  • The immense level of emotion. The first thing that struck me when reading this book was the level of emotion that I felt almost instantly. Corinne Michaels throws you right into the thick of all of that emotion and feeling, and that is exactly what needed to happen for Natalie and Liam’s story. Experiencing that level of emotion just helps you get it all. It also allows you the extraordinary chance to really experience what Natalie and Liam are, making all that they go through that more real, that more intense, and that more emotionally powerful. This book will blow you away with how much feeling it has on every page, and it’ll give you every varied and thoughtfully crafted emotion under the sun, which you will love getting to experience.
  • Natalie’s magnificent journey. Natalie is put through the wringer with what she experiences in Consolation, and the instant you meet her your heart will go to her. You will love her, feel for her, and simultaneously want to hug her. Natalie’s story is filled with heartbreak and some serious pain, and your heart will break for her, but one thing about Natalie is that she has more strength than even she realizes. You will feel that strength as you get to know her, and it will bring out the most outstanding things in her. Even in those moments when she is vulnerable as all get out and has her doubts and questions about how she’s going to get through it all that strength emanates from her in the most breathtaking way. You will just be in awe of where Natalie starts to where she ends up through her amazing journey in Consolation.
  • Liam’s heart melting self. I think Liam just about melted my heart over the course of Consolation. He was honest and raw and he had a heart of gold that just made me fall more and more head over heels in love with his character. I was pleasantly surprised that I got a chance to read his perspective in Consolation, and that honestly made this book for me because it allowed me the chance to understand exactly where he was coming from. Liam is in such a tough position because he’s falling for his best friend’s widow, but I promise you will never doubt the heartfelt feelings coming from him. Liam just stole my heart with what he thinks and feels for Natalie. You will not doubt an ounce of what he has for her, and the level of vulnerability that man exuberates repeatedly will just melt you.
  • Banter galore! While this book has a lot of heavy, it also has a heavy dose of some utterly fantastic banter. Liam and Natalie can really go at it, and I was cracking up at the charming and hysterical banter those two had. That banter will make you smile and laugh, and it brings such a level of fun and humor to this emotionally charged story. It really is just the best, and it helps showcase the wonderfully dynamic and strong willed personalities of Liam and Natalie.
  • The way Natalie & Liam come to be. Natalie and Liam definitely have a unique story. They’ve known each other for ages, but have only recently come to feel the way they do because of circumstances beyond both of their control. Reading and experiencing how Natalie and Liam’s relationship develops over the course of this book is simply amazing. It’s superbly developed and written, and it just makes sense. All the hesitancies, the questions, the back and forth, the doubts, and everything in between that Natalie and Liam share seem exactly as they should. The connection and just pull that Natalie and Liam have towards one another is a force unto itself, and it just heightens everything that’s happening between them.
  • The huge OMG moments. This book has some serious OMG moments. I freaking yelled at my Kindle when I was reading this book. A few times. I also think I gasped more than once, because there were MANY moments that I did not see coming. Moments that shocked me. Moments that had me reeling and thinking and wondering what in the world would happen next. And holy all get out, THAT ENDING, but that just makes me all the more ready for the conclusion to this beautiful duet filled with all those huge moments.
  • The best friends you could ask for. What I’ve loved about all of the books by Corinne Michaels is the supporting and authentic friendships she creates with her characters. The love and connections they all share will just make you happy to read. In Consolation, I loved getting the chance to spend time with the characters I’ve come to love from her other books, while getting to know new characters more. Reanell in particular was a gem, and I loved her little spunky self something fierce! This author develops and brings these distinctive characters to life in such a fabulous way that makes you want to spend as much time as humanly possible with them all because they are all just that fun, and that endearing, and that important.
  • A man with a baby. I repeat: A MAN WITH A BABY. One of my favorite aspects of this book was getting to see one Liam Dempsey navigate the new waters of possibly starting a relationship with someone who had a child. Reading that man as he interacted and got to know Aarabelle, Natalie’s daughter, just about stole my heart. Literally. Nothing sells me more than a man who loves a child, especially when that child isn’t actually his. The love and care and just heart that Liam has for that little girl had me practically swooning all the time, and coupled with many moments of man with a baby humor, I was just more and more in love with Liam and Consolation.
  • The level of realness. I can’t say enough how real this book felt as I read it. I didn’t feel like I was reading it, I felt like I was living it. I’m not married to someone in the military, but this book showed me a glimpse of what that’s like. I’m not a mother yet, but this book made me feel like a part of me was already. I’ve never lost my husband, but this book allowed me the chance to see and experience what a life changing event like that is, and all of the repercussions an event like that holds. That is a true testament to Corinne Michaels and her writing because she created all of that. All of the emotion. All of the vulnerability and feeling. All of the ups and downs and realness and flaws that goes along with this story. She created it all, and she did it in such a beautifully breathtaking way that allowed me the exceptional chance to get all of that and more.

Consolation by Corinne Michaels was an enthralling read that gave me Liam and Natalie’s passionate, emotionally laced, and heart pulling story. I immediately connected with them both, and reading these two try to make sense of what they were feeling and thinking was just terrific. When you read their story in Consolation you will fall in love with their characters and all that they go through together, and you’ll be more than ready to see where the road is going to take them.

Corinne Michaels has written and created another story that I could get lost in, and I am just thrilled with what I got to experience in this book with Liam and Natalie. I got to see and understand those characters to their core, and my heart just went to both of them. This book and its events pushed them and in turn pushed me as the reader in the best ways, and that push exemplifies all that is outstanding about Consolation.

Consolation is a book that will give you so much. It’ll give you a story that will pull you in from the first word to the very last. It’ll give you two dynamic characters who’ll enamor you with their many authentic and remarkable qualities. It’ll give you events that will leave you feeling everything under the sun, and it’ll give you a reading experience you will just want to relish in again and again because it’s just that good.

Review Post: Unforgettable Sun by Kathryn Andrews

Title: Unforgettable Sun
Series: Hale Brothers #3
Author: Kathryn Andrews
Genre: New Adult, Contemporary Romance
Release Date: March 4, 2015
Matt Hale
I’ve never really been included. I’ve never felt like I truly belonged. But then again, how could I? Living on this island, I’ve seen and heard too many things. Lies. Secrets.
“Lies I’ve been forced to tell and secrets I’ve been forced to keep. They keep me locked to myself.”
They’re the reason I stand on the edge of the horizon and watch from afar. Other people’s lives have evolved, but not mine. It’s exactly the same. Day after day, the sun rises, and every time its rays penetrate my skin, I’m reminded that no matter how desperately I don’t want to be, I’m trapped. I want to live. I want to breathe. I just want to be . . . free.
Elle Summers
If I had my way, I would have walked off the catwalk and straight out of the public eye years ago. Never-ending contracts and obligations have kept me prisoner until recently.
“Now it is fear that has me trapped and running from my life.”
I’m now hiding in a tiny beach cottage in my mother’s hometown, praying no one will find me. No one understands. The demands, lack of control, threats … I just want it all gone. I want to escape. When do I finally get to be me? Free.

Matt

With one foot in front of the other I start running. Over the dunes and into the sand, I push as hard as I can. With tears streaming down my cheeks, visions of the fire play out before me. Gasping for air, the smell of smoke fills my senses. I didn’t notice it before but now it is so strong I almost gag. Wiping my nose with the back of my hand, I desperately try to find some fresh air. But no, there it is again, that smell. It’s on my skin. It’s like it isn’t just following me, but now permanently a part of me. Charging into the water, I dive under into the silence. My hands run over my arms, my face, and through my hair. I’m frantic and I have to get rid of the smell.

Washing up on to the shore, I curl up into a ball on the wet sand. My heart is broken for Beau and I’m so afraid. So very afraid. He’s the one and only person who has ever shown me love and the thought of losing him paralyzes me with fear. My sobs are still silent. I’ve been taught not to make a sound. But they hurt so much. Without a voice, I mouth his name over and over again. I just want Beau. I need Beau. He’s the only one who can make this all better, and make everything about this dreadful night disappear.

But he isn’t here and he can’t be.

With my eyes pinched shut, the smell of smoke in my nose, and the feel of a nonexistent heat against my skin, I know. I know it with a certainty that has robbed me of my voice and permeated itself into my pores that, no matter what, everything about this night will be . . . unforgettable.

Review

*****5 Heartfelt Stars*****

I am an ending person. That’s my favorite part of a book because I love that end result. It’s honestly why I love reading series so much, because if I get a phenomenal ending, an ending that just leaves me breathless and so totally in love with what I’ve just experienced, it makes me love that series and that ending book even more.

Unforgettable Sun was an extraordinary ending to The Hale Brothers Series by Kathryn Andrews. I don’t think I could’ve asked for anything better, and while I am so sad this series is ending, I could not have asked for a more perfect book to close out this series of unforgettable books.

This last book and Matt and Elle’s story just reiterated once again why I love this outstanding series, and why it is assuredly one of my all-time favorites. Each book that I’ve read in this series has completely blown me away with the level of emotion and feeling that flows from the page, the extraordinary characters I met that I won’t ever forget, and their thoughtfully developed stories that pulled me in every single time I read them.

Matt and Elle’s story in Unforgettable Sun is simply unforgettable. I’ve been dying to get my hands on Matt’s story since I met him in Drops of Rain, and I was completely enamored by him in this book. Then to top it all off I got Elle’s character, and she is just one of the most authentic and endearing characters I think I’ve had the chance to read.

I adored them both, and reading their story and experiencing all that they go through was nothing short of amazing.

What was truly unforgettable about Unforgettable Sun:

  • Getting into Matt’s head. Matt’s character has always intrigued me, so I was beyond ready to get into his head and learn more about him. I was just enraptured by him throughout this entire book. Knowing his thoughts and feelings, and experiencing what he’d been through just made me care for and love his character more. It also broke my heart at times to read that darkness he faced, and reading his struggle made me want to reach in and make it better for him. But seeing how Matt handled that struggle, how he attempted to overcome it and fight through it just made him so remarkable to read.
  • The realness of Elle. Elle was a character that I just instantly connected to. She felt so real to me, and Kathryn Andrews creates her in such a way that just makes her come to life. Elle just screamed authenticity, and I found her character to be so relatable and easy to love. I also could not get enough of how strong she was, because like Matt she faces some pretty heavy things, but through it all she gives it her all to be exactly who she wants to be. I just loved how Elle faced and persevered through everything, and there was just such a vibrant beauty to her both inside and out.
  • That serious connection. Matt and Elle have a serious connection that sparks off of the page, and you will feel that the instant they meet. That connection builds and grows immensely over the course of their story, and it just heightens and solidifies everything they are feeling and experiencing together. You will feel the enormity and pull of their connection when you read their story. It will pull you in like a moth to a flame, and there’s no way you won’t feel that amazing and spark filled connection they share.
  • Exposing the past. Both of these characters have past and present darkness that they’re facing, but getting to know Matt’s past and what was haunting him just left me speechless. I had always wanted to know what was haunting Matt, and what led him to being the way that he was. What he goes through and what he had to experience just hurt my heart and made me so angry for him because of what he faced day in and day out. Reading Matt expose his past, being that vulnerable, and then in turn actually attempting to overcome it just left me in awe of him, and when you find out all he’s gone through I guarantee you’ll feel the exact same way.
  • All that fight. There is so much wondrous fight in this book. Matt is fighting the darkness from his past that haunts him every day. Elle is fighting the negativity that surrounds and permeates her world, while also fighting against a very real kind of danger. Matt is also fighting against the feelings he just knows to be true, and Elle is fighting to help him realize that what they’re feeling, what they could have is something exceptional. Something unforgettable. Reading all that fight just demonstrates the shear tenacity of these characters, and that determination just defines this book and them in the most amazing way.
  • More time with my favorite set of brothers. So I love me some Hale Brothers. A lot. I’ve loved every book in this series because I’ve loved each of those brothers for the dynamic and distinctive people they are. Unforgettable Sun really just illuminates the depth of love these brothers have for one another. Those boys stole my little heart, and I think each of them are always going to have a little piece of it because they’re just that spectacular and heart melting. They really are the best and this book gives you another little fabulous taste of them all.
  • Emotions and feelings galore. Kathryn Andrews knows how to create a story with so many varied and thoughtfully crafted emotions and feelings. They flow throughout each of her books, and just make them the magnificent things that they are. When I read Matt and Elle’s story I not only had the chance to step into their dynamic heads, I got to feel and experience and live everything they were. You feel their heartbreak, their pain, and their hurt. You also feel all their vulnerability, but you also get to experience their hope and fight and just all the amazing things that make them who they are. Having that kind of a connection and the chance to experience what they do with that level of emotion was extraordinary, and it just made me connect to Matt and Elle even more because of their fantastically layered and emotional story.
  • The theme of being free. This book is all about being free. Being free of the past and the darkness it entails, free of other people and expectations, and just being free to be who you are. Being free to follow that sun, that light, and that happiness. Matt and Elle are both seeking that feeling of freeness, and the journey you go on with them as they push to be free is nothing short of wonderful. Kathryn Andrews adds that theme of being free into this story in such meaningful and beautiful ways, and I promise you are going to be enthralled by their journey and fight to be free.
  • That ending! Now I’m not telling you how this book ends, but just know that the ending for this book, for this series was everything I wanted and needed it to be and more. It will satisfy you, it will blow you away, and it will do everything in its power to make your heart oh so happy. Matt and Elle’s story is one helluva journey, and it provides the most superb ending to a phenomenal series.

Unforgettable Sun and Matt and Elle’s story exemplified everything that makes a book exceptional for me. Their story gave me the opportunity to feel with them, connect with them, hurt with them, and love them for everything they were and were trying to do. I wouldn’t trade that experience in for the world because it allowed me the chance to truly connect to two authentic characters and their utterly breathtaking story.

Every book in this series has given me so many things. This series gave me the chance to spend time with 3 dynamic and captivating brothers with some seriously dark and twisty pasts, as they fought for that light they so truly deserved. It also gave me three beautifully written stories that exemplified what it means to give it your all in order to end up exactly where you need to be. This series gave me 3 unique and mesmerizing reading experiences that gave me it all.

This series gave me everything. Unforgettable Sun gave me everything. Matt and Elle gave me everything.

This book is just another shining example of Kathryn Andrews’ phenomenal writing and storytelling, and as much as I wish this wasn’t the end, what she gave me within each of these books is something I will truly never forget.

OVER TEN YEARS ago my husband and I were driving from Chicago to Tampa and somewhere in Kentucky I remember seeing a billboard that was all black with five white words, “I do, therefore I am!” I’m certain that it was a Nike ad, but for me I found this to be completely profound.
Take running for example. Most will say that a runner is someone who runs five days a week and runs under a ten minute mile pace. Well, I can tell you that I never run five days a week and on my best days my pace is an eleven minute mile. I have run quite a few half marathons and one full marathon. No matter what anyone says . . . I run, therefore I am a runner.
I’ve taken this same thought and applied it to so many areas of my life: cooking, gardening, quilting, and yes . . . writing.
I may not be culinary trained, but I love to cook and my family and friends loves to eat my food. I cook, therefore I am a chef!
My thumb is not black. I love to grow herbs, tomatoes, roses, and lavender. I garden, therefore I am a gardener!
I love beautiful fabrics and I can follow a pattern. My triangles may not line up perfectly . . . but who cares, my quilts are still beautiful when they are finished. I quilt, therefore I am a quilter.
I have been writing my entire life. It is my husband who finally said, “Who cares if people like your books or not? If you enjoy writing them and you love your stories…then write them.” He has always been my biggest fan and he was right. Being a writer has always been my dream and what I said I wanted to be when I grew up.
So, I’ve told you who I am and what I love to do . . . now I’m going to tell you the why.
I have two boys that are three years a part. My husband and I want to instill in them adventure, courage, and passion. We don’t expect them to be perfect at things, we just want them to try and do. It’s not about winning the race; it’s about showing up in the first place. We don’t want them to be discouraged by society stereotypes, we want them to embrace who they are and what they love. After all, we only get one life.
In the end, they won’t care how many books I actually sell . . . all that matters to them is that I said I was going to do it, I did it, and I have loved every minute of it.
Find something that you love and tell yourself, “I do, therefore I am.”
